The reference is from our radio station way back in the 90’s. Rodney was live in the studio on the Bob & Tom show in Indianapolis and he performed the song, “ Fred’s riding Fred “. I was just off work 3rd shift in the morning and heard it live first time on air. Later the made him say alcohol instead of weed.

You really need to tune the high and low E strings down a step to D and the 5th string (A) right down to E, that's how Dewey Bunnell plays it. You get more of an authentic sound. I suggest you go and watch a KZbin guy called, Shut Up and Play. He explains everything about this song.

Hey Justin, second chord is a beautiful voicing of a D/F# Major which you can extend with a D on the B string (third fret). I love that shape which you can transpose along the neck using the index finger on the D string two frets away. And as a D major makes sense armonically.

As always a tremendous lesson, for which thanks. As a matter of interest, I have the sheet music published by Warner Bros. Publications Inc. from way back in the seventies! According to that, the chords are Em at the fourth fret and D9/6 also at the fourth. The chorus is Em9 at the second fret and D Maj 9 at the second. I've never really played the song because I struggle with the Em9 because I have a bit of a crooked little finger.

If you ISOLATE Strings 6 & 5 (E & A) and then go back/forth on the Low E while strumming, you can clearly hear a nice BASS Beat. Then you can add in & emphasize those Bass Strings overall while you play the alternate Em & D(6/9/F#...) This seems to give the overall Song more depth & interest.

Justin, the chorus uses Em9 x20002 Dmaj9 x000220. it is shown in the authentic publisher sheet music
@larrypower86593 жыл бұрын
Dirk Johnson ~ It’s frustrating to see these vids calling it a two chord song. The two chorus chords are just as easy to play and in the same fret #2 box. The tune doesn’t sound right without them. I love Justin’s tutorials but am somewhat surprised at this one. I think he’s underestimating his viewers, which is uncharacteristic of him.
@k2thepeak2 жыл бұрын
I’m learning it from another on-line guru and I believe he got the dope from Dewey. The tuning is part of the difference; it’s D E D G B D (low to high). But it stays with the 2 chord rif. Dewey’s strum pattern on the D6/9 chord has a palm muted rake on 2&. And, keep in mind that on the original there are two other acoustics, Gerry on a 12-string is essentially playing what Justin is teaching. For the purists, Ck out Jerry’s Guitar Bar lesson.
@k2thepeak2 жыл бұрын
I think Justin’s version is going to be great for 99% of the players. For the purists who want to copy Dewey, there’s additional tricks (and Gerry’s 12-string…).
