Putting my 9 yr old daughter to bed on Father's Day Eve 2024 to this classic... when I'm gone, she'll have memories of her dad and this song (and plenty of others) to share with her own kids. One of THE coolest parts of beyond a dad... planting seeds in her unconscious for my grandkids ❤

"It’s a calming thing, to learn there’s a word for something you’ve felt all your life but didn’t know was shared by anyone else. It’s even oddly empowering-to be reminded that you’re not alone, you’re not crazy, you’re just an ordinary human being trying to make your way through a bizarre set of circumstances." @@davidascroft7403 The horse part in the title of the song refers to the vehicle that takes us through the journey from the desert to the ocean. It could have been a horse, a car, a bicycle, anything that you ride. That's why it's called Horse With No Name.

Interestingly, I'd always listen to K-DST while flying in GTA SA, and this song was one of the best ones to just cruise through the sky to, same as in a car or on a bike through where ever I was travelling through. Heard this song in the bank today, made me search it now. Damn good track.

Your story brings 😢 to me, a lovely song for your mom. I lost my mom 2.5 yrs ago to ♋️. She was a strong woman, never showed or let her pain stop her no matter what. She took care of my older brother now 49 since 1994 (car accident ). Now I take care of him FT, bathing washroom, feeding "everything " no communication, and my father also FT. I dread the day he goes as it will be a shit show. Stay 💪 my friend.

It may seem strange, but although born and raised in a Mediterranean country, the sound of America and especially this song has added one defining dimension to the way I see the landscapes and the people I come across for the last 45 years. A timeless classic masterpiece composed by musicians with a rare gift for writing songs and poems. To me this is an anthem to the fabulous '70s. Thank you so much for this upload.

Lyrics On the first part of the journey I was looking at all the life There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz And the sky with no clouds The heat was hot, and the ground was dry But the air was full of sound I've been through the desert On a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la After two days in the desert sun My skin began to turn red After three days in the desert fun I was looking at a river bed And the story it told of a river that flowed Made me sad to think it was dead You see I've been through the desert On a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la After nine days, I let the horse run free 'Cause the desert had turned to sea There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The ocean is a desert with it's life underground And a perfect disguise above Under the cities lies a heart made of ground But the humans will give no love You see I've been through the desert On a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la

In another video someone commented they hope this song appears as the ending of Steel Ball Run if they ever adapt it to anime. I can fully get behind that, it's a masterpiece.

The Covenant anyone? Phenomenal movie. Side note: my mom used to play this song all the time in our car rides when I was a child. I’m 32 this year and she’s approaching 70 as well. Time sure does fly. Follow your dreams and don’t let self doubt prevent that fellas. Regrets are anchors that stay with you.

I heard this record on WAXC, in the springtime of 1972, on the car radio in the Rebel station wagon, when Adolph Pacelli and Bob Whittet took all of us bowling at Olympic Bowl. I also saw a very bright flash, which also frightened me. I saw a man with a camera in one hand, which was a Kodak Instamatic 44 camera, with a Sylvania Blue Dot flashcube on it. I screamed, cried, and yelled, because I was very afraid of the camera and the flash. We then got back and had lunch. Bob Whittet spoke with me. "Cameras represent great fear to you, don't they?? Well, we'll have to maybe get you a camera, so you won't be afraid, ok??" Bob said. That evening, we saw a cottage movie, right in our cottage. One film that we saw, was Johnny Appleseed. Soon, it ended. "Goodnight, Johnny. Sweet dreams!!" the narrator said, and I saw The End on the screen. The next day, we went to the Seneca Park Zoo to see all of the animals. I asked how I was doing. "Better. But you're still very afraid of cameras and flashes, aren't you, Mark?? Well, we're going to see if you can get over that fear of a camera, Mark, because a camera isn't going to do anything!!! A camera is very harmless!! It's nothing!! Why should a camera ever hurt you, Mark?? What we'll do,is that I'm going to take you to a camera store, and you can look at all the cameras!!! You can even work with one that has a flashcube on it, and you can see how harmless it is!!" Bob said. One day,I was out with Dad. We looked in a camera store. I saw many, many kinds of cameras. I took a look at a Kodak Instamatic 44 camera. "Now is that what you want, son?? Well, we'll get it. No flashcubes, because of your fear of the flash, though!!" Dad said. -Mark Weintraub.

I was in junior high school when this song came out, and we all assumed that when the song concluded with the meaningless verse: “The ocean is a desert with its life underground and a perfect disguise above, under the cities lies a heart made of ground but the humans will give no love” that the man had gone insane from being in the desert too long! Who knows, we might have been right after all!
