If the Great Powers of the Alpha Quadrant ceased to send colonists to settle in the Gamma Quadrant, will the Dominion just leave them alone? Also, this is one thing I really like about Star Trek. By having multiple Great Powers coexisted at the same time in the galaxy, the balance of power is obtained.

Annihilating New Bajor was the first of the major strategic blunders, that would ultimately doom the Dominion. In a classic cold war move it would have been far more efficient to leave the colony alive but encirceled, just like West Berlin. Thus having a hostage, that could also serve as a tool for Infiltration and Propaganda. And as the cherry on top Bajor would have to pay for the privilege to have a transit route, or be allowed to evacuate.

I'm curious how the Dominion and Federation interact in the 32nd century. It wasn't explored by the Discovery series.
