A hot evening & late night at Water Orton 19/07/21

As the weather had been so hot during the day I decided to go out at night to do some firming, but there was a problem on parts of the station, loads of gnat flying about.
It was also good to meet Chris Warman and his son Alfie who were doing a all-nighter there,
Chris puts lots of reports on UK-Rail.

Lovely video Mike and goodness how the memories flood back. In the 1950's that wall was full of people of a summer evening drinking and watching the steam trains. Many years later I was working the signal box there when there was another Derby line just next to the wall and I let a desperate driver of a standard 5 on a fully fitted out in front of the Cornishman. I did check with control first that she was running late but when the fitteds guards van passed the box I swear it was doing a mile a minute.

I was on the P/Way in the mid 70's based at Castle Bromwich. We had a hut by the bridge at Water Orton, next to the old signal box. I see the floral display at the end of the platform is going well. So envious of you having a drink and watching the action. Dosn't get much better than that. Must pay a visit soon , love the chippy as well, cheers.

Yes Alan that weed display needs cutting, the other day I had to take my step ladders to get a good shot. I just about remember the Signal Box at WO, and yes It was nice to have a drink there again on a hot night, plus you are right the chippy is a good one, and well know with the train enthusiasts that visit the station. Amazing Video! There is so much that goes through this station! 47773 goes through with 20189 in about 3 hours! There is always something! Glad it’s my local!

Very good, especially now you've added captions. When I was a sales rep back in the 1970s/80s I spent hours in that pub car park but couldn't drink much 'cos I had to drive to a hotel or back home to Somerset. Great variety at WTO. You beer isn't going down fast enough. If we meet I'll buy you a pint or two!

Water Orton is something of a hidden gem for spotting. It also has a free car park, so you can park & ride it to Birmingham if you want.
