Excellent video Mike!! Sad to see these go although I never got to experience them myself they have been a great workhorse for the West Midlands depsite not getting off to the best start! The 730s do look like nice trains though and will be interesting to see how they perform!

Network Rail have done a horrible job with the electrification of the GWML. They should've used thinner gantries instead of huge towers. No wonder the electrification went over budget. Network Rail should feel ashamed of themselves for designing this grossly engineered overhead wires and it was a disgraceful type of what they done.

The West Midlands Railway 323s will be missed

Hi Mike any filming on the Camp hill chords.

Being involved in the sector myself i can reiterate that it’s a bad decision to move more traffic to road but in RMs defence it is now attempting to stay financially afloat after the destructive tenure of Simon Thompson and his cronies who took the company to the brink of collapse in a reckless mission to line their own pockets and those of major shareholders. The 325s are ageing maintenance costs are increasing as are DB Cargo’s fees and access charges. A new fleet of trains was required and it was simply unaffordable in the current climate. An element of Royal Mail’s Network 24 review was to maximise current road service capacity ie running less or no empty trailer legs and utilising idle or stored trailers where possible and reducing the need for hire vehicles and agency staff. Not sure if most people are aware but the bulk of the 1st class/ 24 hr/ priority mail has been travelling by air and road for years. Only the recently cancelled ECMLs Low Fell to PRDC up/down carried primarily priority traffic. A majority of the WCML traffic moved during the daytime and was bulk 48hr traffic. There is currently an ongoing process of identifying a 3rd party TOC to carry non priority bulk traffic as part of a future review. Who knows in future if RM becomes significantly profitable again it may be able to purchase its own fleet also not forgetting that the 325s were purchased when Royal Mail was a state owned organisation.

Great units and terrible decision to stop these trains. The fact no one at the top seems to care is rather worrying. So much for reducing carbon and putting more on the railways

Having been a railway employee and a postie I fail to understand the logic behind getting rid of the trains yet again. OK the sets were aging like all of us but they moved more stuff per train load than a fleet of Artics and they weren't restricted by tachograph rules. Poor decision RM. Excellent tribute Mike. Not a good decision? Your telling me Mike! Its just like the Arpley Peak Forest db hoppers they are going on to the roads!!!! All logic has gonrt out the window. More traffic and pollution on our roads. Sorry about the rant but the railways here have lost the plot oh and lets not start on the Db 90's axed too.
