Xia Hao Li Old Street is the largest and best-preserved historical and cultural street in Chongqing's main urban area. Located in the central region of Chongqing's main city, it faces the Yangtze River and is backed by Nanshan Mountain, offering a panoramic view of Yuzhong's scenic spots.
A thousand years ago, on the banks of Nan'an Shangxin Street, there was a break in the middle of a stone beam in the river, resembling a gate, which the ancients called "Longmen" (Dragon Gate). Inside the stone beam, a wide expanse of water naturally formed, referred to as "Hao" in the local dialect. During the Shaoxing era of the Song Dynasty, someone inscribed the words "Longmen" on it, giving rise to the name "Longmenhao."
One of the twelve famous ancient Bayu (Chongqing) scenes, "Longmen Hao Yue" (the bright moon over Longmen), also originated here. In 1891, when Chongqing established a customs house and opened its port, Longmenhao Wharf became the earliest inland commercial port in China to open to foreign trade.
The Longmenhao district includes Zaozi Bay, Mishi Street, Xiahao, Zhoujia Bay, Juelin Temple, Dongjia Bridge, Putao Courtyard, Wang'er Building, Ma'anshan, and Jianye Ridge.
In April 2021, Nan'an District began the construction of Xiahaoli (formerly Xia Longmenhao). Longmenhao Old Street·Xiahaoli officially opened on November 5, 2022, fully restoring the street life scenes of old Chongqing.
Longmenhao Old Street is the largest and best-preserved historical and cultural street in Chongqing's main urban area. Located in the city center, the street faces the Yangtze River and backs onto Nanshan, offering a panoramic view of Yuzhong.

One of the ancient Bayu Twelve Views, Longmen Haoyue, also originated here. In 1891, Chongqing set up customs and opened the port, making Longmenhao Wharf one of the earliest inland commercial ports open to foreign trade in China.
The Longmenhao area includes Zaiziwan, Mishi Street, Xiahao, Zhoujiawan, Juelin Temple, Dongjia Bridge, Putao Courtyard, Wang'er Tower, Ma'an Mountain, and Jianye Hill.
In April 2021, Nan'an District initiated the construction of Xiahuli (formerly Lower Longmenhao). Longmenhao Old Street·Xiahuli opened on November 5, 2022, fully restoring the old Chongqing street life scenes.
Longmenhao Old Street·Xiahuli currently has five entrances: Entrance 1 (Shangxin Street), Entrance 2 (Dongshuimen Bridgehead), Entrance 3 (Nanbin Road), Entrance 4 (Menchao Street), and Entrance 5 (Mishi Street).
The development of Longmenhao is closely tied to the historical destiny of Chongqing. It has gone through significant historical periods and development opportunities, such as the "Huguang Filling Sichuan," the opening of Chongqing, and the "Anti-Japanese War Migration," shaping Longmenhao's unique architectural appearance and cultural heritage. Old buildings like the French Yongxing Foreign Firm, the old site of Wuchang Zhonghua University, the Belgian Consulate, Wen's Courtyard, and the US Embassy Military Attaché's Office add a unique blend of romance and antiquity to the street.
Numerous vibrant historical relics, port culture, wartime site culture, Bayu culture, and dock culture thrive here. Through the sights and sounds of Longmenhao Old Street, the city's forgotten memories are awakened.
Today, I visited many old streets, including Huangjueya Old Street, Dunhoupo Old Street, and Longmenhao Old Street. Though my legs are sore, it was definitely worth it. These old streets are unique to Chongqing, unlike the relatively uniform old streets of other cities.
