A how to guide on making a water pan by the Smart Water for Agriculture Programme- SWA

Many farmers grapple with water shortage during dry weather periods, despite lots of runoff water when it rains, leaving the farmers with no source of water for their livestock and crops. The Smart Water for Agriculture project under the Netherlands development organization, in an effort to show case water storage, here is a how to guide on making a water pan.

They should use another liner to cover it during hot days when no rain will fall, to help slow evaporation

Doing it by hand.. Now those are real farmers right there who you know will succeed. I hope they make enough money using their water pan to get an excavator next time though.

The green shadenet dipped in cement grout to be tightly fixed in the pond terafter apply grout over it press to flush out air. Fix from top to bottom, pieces must be placed in overlapping at the joints...

Instead of liners, nicely plastering the inside with ciment is a better option IMO.

Cost Benefit Analysis? It might be more expensive per square meter to use cement. I am not 100% sure though.

The greenhouse industry disposes of thousands of hectares of 6 mil plastic each year. I have used 2 year old scrap plastic film for pond liner. It works well but must be replaced every few years.Farmers pay to get rid of greenhouse film.
