Is there a way to where u could have the top bunk flip up & down. So it would give u a better chance for a bigger door. If u don't do something. It will limit your overnight guests. Just an ideal.

I think the second (upper) shelf for sleep should be removable and lie on the lower shelf. This will increase the comfort of being in the cabin when there are not many passengers.

I'm a painting contractor from the Tri-Cities, WA. I have painted 2 boats: a Capri 25 and a Bayliner 2452 cabin cruiser. I painted the Capri 25' sailboat with an airless paint sprayer and I had issues with the urethane top coat sagging! The next boat I painted was a Baylner 2452. I purchased a Harbor Freight gravity fed HVLP. I will NEVER paint a boat again with an airless paint sprayer! The HVLP applied both the epoxy primer and urethane top coats beautifully. The HVLP affords better control with paint application, is inexpensive, and easy to clean. Unless your painting a ship, don't waste your time and money on an airless paint sprayer. It isn't necessary and the cheap Harbor Freight HVLP will provide a better finish. I've been enjoying the Duracell Project episodes. It will be fun to watch the boat get wet again!

The top bunk should be hinge to allow the inboard edge to raise up out of the way The lower bunk be hinge to serve as a cover to a large locker
@si_vis_amari_ama11 ай бұрын
That's a great idea, even tho' the bunks are staggered, hinging the top bunk would make a big difference in a small space if one person was using the quarter berths, not two.

Good option for the sea berths. Personally, I would seriously look at making the top bunk ‘hinged’ with arrangements to lift and retain the bunk (complete with slats and mattress) and lock into a stowed position. Oftentimes there will only be one candidate for stretching out in the sea berth.😉 Amazing the difference a coat of paint makes.😀👍⛵️

Great job. Might consider adding a "simple" emergency/secondary scape hatch within the seating area of the settee. Keep it simple just a hatch that you can push up with the seat cushion above. Also might want to add 2 or 3 small port lights to the inboard settee wall (just below knee high) will allow more ventilation and light.

I'm enjoying watching the Duracell project. It gives flashbacks of working at the sailboat factory (Soverel Marine) in my younger days down in Florida. You mentioned sanding. Sanding and more sanding. We built a sixty-foot racing sloop sailboat that competed in the Transpac called the Shadow. It was a one-off so we started from the concrete up. Vacuum bagging was just getting started back then and, it was amazing. I think we sanded every day for at least a year on just the hull. Turned it over and built the stringer system inside. Sanding and more sanding. I can't wait to see the finished sailboat. I might have missed the topic on a previous video but, are you going to call it Duracell or pick another name? Hang in there to both of you and before long you will be on the water. Ok back to sanding LOL!!!!!!

Just a thought about the enclosed berths. Could you have an emergency exit panel/hatch through the settee above the top bunk? If there's flooding or a flash fire it would be good to be able to push out through the top and not have only one exit. You could also leave the settee cushion up and hatch open when moored to help air out the berths.

Have you tried a pipe birth for the tob bunks? We have that on our boat, it's super nice to just fold it out of the way for the bottom bunk...
@Tomm9y11 ай бұрын
The quarter berths look great, and if you can keep some gaps against the hull, air flow will be maintained. perhaps you'll need a ladder to get to the top bunk, particulary when heeling. Having such snug berths in a separate cabin is great for passage making. Having used pilot berths in the main saloon of a smaller boat, it's not always welcome to be woken by food smells and the inevitable clatter. The deck saloon seating will be great, however I suspect the inspector will have additional criteria such as the frequency of sunlight on the cushions whilst at anchor, etc.

This is an important criteria for her indeed. We risk not passing.

Looking good. I’d ditch the sea berths and keep the double allowing the sea berth room to become a workshop. A man or woman for that matter needs a place to play from time to time. Speaking of Farriers I used to own one of the original 680’s built by Ian himself. When I purchased her the boat came with black and white build photos when she was built under his house. I did a total refit in Western Australia and she’s still getting around these days. It was good fun doing 360 degree tacks with the dagger board down, a great little boat!.

The boat is looking great. I really like those quarter berth set ups. When offshore in nasty weather they will be comfortable and secure for the off watch crew. You have probably thought of this but having a grate and a drain in the sole of the changing area would be handy when getting out of wet foul weather gear. Also its nice that you separated the changing area from the bunks, which will make for dryer berths at sea.

Awesome progress. You mention airless sprayer. Look into hvlp pressure pot setups. Much easier to clean as you can line the pot with a bag or disposable cup and use cheap vinyl hose that you throw away for the paint supply. Adjust the tank pressure for the exact flow rate to the gun without spray air then set your atomization air pressure for desired pattern. You can get a 5 gal pot that will hold a 2.5 gallon bucket and some of the pots have mixers so you can keep your coatings mixed during application.

In your quarter births you should set up a cross flow of air, I wasn't able to follow exactly where your vents are but you can use tubing with holes to spread the air across the births so that you don't get any dead air that would be stuffy and hot. Oh what are you doing for lights, I would like to suggest LED strip lights, you can get nice water proof LEDs that can change colour so you can go from bright reading light to a dim warm night light. Direct or hidden lights would work nicely. You should look for RGBW with Chip on board, these have a built in diffuser that make them ideal for what you need. The boat is looking awesome, lots of work but it is really looking amazing.
