Use Shift channels from effect , and select Luminace option on Take Alpha from

If you go under: render settings and then find > composite settings > you have to select black to have ring in color. If you have on transparent there will be no color.

I think the best way to do so is render it as a gif, more like u will have two stats, idle and played state and then handle it with js (make sure the animation can somehow loop smoothly in case u will need to use it longer)
