Love this tutorial. You're extremely good at explaining everything you are doing, and in a very efficient way. You're a natural and I hope you continue to make videos like this!

As a after effects user, you can be familiar with all the plugins but what good is it when you don't know how well you can use it for! This tut is a very good example. I have used all the plugins shown in this video but never knew you could do all this stuff!

YOU are a GOD! I was able to take the principles of your tutorial and apply them to my project. I needed to have a sine wave that travels along a straight line with gradual distortion on each end that tapers to flat. Your tutorial was perfect and worked like a charm!

Great tutorial Harry. I was wondering what happened between 10:48 - 10:49?
@birgittenielsen20356 жыл бұрын
Did you ever figure out what happened there? My mask is still centered, while it looks like his is standing on each side of the composition ?
@silviasguotti6 жыл бұрын
I think that he selected gray solid 1 layer and create another mask with the same features than the first one. (Mask feather 150,150) I tried and it works :)

He just switched the mask of Gray Solid 1 to inverted

I learned a lot from this video! Incredible job teaching everything, you made it really easy to follow you throughout the video :) It's a shame most of these techniques aren't applicable for Lottie animations, though...

Great technique! One thing I would also add, you can avoid going 16 bit by using MotionTile, set to "mirror edges", that way you don't decimate your colour range across the whole screen and keep the 8 bit data concentrated per ramp! It would require a slight different approach for use
@ashleypenney35344 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm looking to export a high res export of just one frame of this. I'm not sure how to use MotionTile. Could you explain more in a bit more detail? Thanks so much!
@NickNenov4 жыл бұрын
@@ashleypenney3534 in your case I think 16 bit would be fine as demonstrated in this tutorial, as performance would not be an issue, the motion tile approach would be more for huge canvas and heavier comps like projection mapping etc.

Hey man, just wondering, in your dribble link you share the code, does it mean you did the entire animation using only code? What do I need to learn to do that stuff ? Java script ?

DO you think there is a way controling the gradient displacement map with audio value ? Goal is using this (brillant) setup to create audiovisualizer.

Am i the only one to get a split on the line at certain frames? It seems coming from the gradient map phase cycle. I tried over and over, someone has an idea? Thanks

I also encountered the same problem. The solution was to change the gray layer mask mode to subtract.

Great video! The only issue that I found is that when you export an animation based on this technique as a GIF (to include in a website for example) it ends up with a large size! I lowered the quality when exporting and then I used an online GIF optimizer to reduce the size but it's still quite heavy. Any tips on how to reduce the size of a GIF animation based on this technique?
@MBPaperPlanes4 жыл бұрын
How big is too big? And what are your GIF dimensions? You could try a few things, like lowering the frame rate, making the dimensions smaller, making the loop shorter, reducing the number of colors/ removing glow effects.
