Great video. I was wondering if there would be something AI out there for DJ soon. I believe at least for most of us that are a one-man show, which lights can be used and how they connect is going to also be import. I’m using a lot of wireless DMX lights, but I assume if they have DMX channels they would work with this. I actually enjoy setting up my own shows but let’s be honest the ones you showed today. Look freaking awesome. Thanks again.

It will work with any wireless DMX protocol as long as the transmitter is connected to the AI device. As far as lights, they had name-brand as well as cheap Chinese knock-offs in the lighting rig for AI Light Show. So, as long as the light is DMX, it will work.

i bought the maestro dmx controller but there a problem with trying to do it with your phone the app shutdown and you have to wait for it to come back online so you have to off your phone when using the app

Good video, as much as I like hardware products I think the simple line in dmx out will be best for my live duo. At $700 it's affordable.

That was my video and actually did have a bit of delay in the video capture in comparison to the audio feed. The delay was caused by OBS Studio and the in person experience with Maestro is no noticeable delay during my tests and weddings where I brought out the kit to test in the field. They actually posted new videos today, two of the videos are from me and the same lab setup video now reflects a more accurate representation of the in person experience. The other video was recorded at a wedding with a 360 camera and the audio is directly from the camera.

So since you have been testing this unit what is your view of Maestro DMX vs Soundswitch? Besides the fact that you don't have to do any preprograming how does the end result compare to soundswitch shows? Is it better than Autoloops? Is it better than something you would Autoscript in Soundswitch?

Autoscripting is a powerful feature of Soundswitch and also very time consuming if you do it right. A user that just runs the Autoscript on a batch of songs is going to see the same effect over and over as did I. You have to spend the time building a script for each song to really get the power out of Soundswitch scripting. That didn't work for me as my lighting rig has to be changed for some events based on available space and I didn't want to have to re-script for all the possible layouts of my rig. I found that using Autoloops was far easier to manage and worked for me for over a year with Soundswitch. I now put my Control One in DMX pass-thru mode at most events and typically only switch over on slow songs as I have a static look designed for slow dances. The effects I am getting are better then most of my autoloops and I don't have to stand there and trigger them at the right points in the song anymore.

I have been trying to find a good solution for a live band show. I wonder if something like this would be applicable. Something like Soundswitch is good for prerecorded music, but not for live music. Any suggestions on software for live music shows?

I've been wanting something for a live band too. Thing is, this box does too much flashing of lights. Bands do not want all these flashing lights.

Neither device is for sale yet, expect for MaestroDMX. You have to go to Kickstarter for Maestro.

Via DMX cable or wireless dongle, yes. All the addresses on the lights to be set correctly, but those things are the easy part.

Use DMX software for years but I'm missing the sound trigger effect. Spend hours to compare both units. I started to explore MaestroDMX. Read the manual and was positive surprised. The fact to use a MIDI controller was for me important becuase phisical control remains important for me, however, so far only buttons can be setup, no sliders to adjust for example the general brightness. On the other hand they improve their product (revision 1.2) now so surprised what they will add in the future. Than I found the Force 1 from AI Light Show, I thought, hey that even more interesting... but it seems they don't make any progress and they ran out of stock. Since the beginning the unit is still in Beta V1.0. To conclude: it's not easy to decide but I guess the MaestroDMX is the most compromising product.

Next batch of Force1's are expected around April, as well as an update for more control and enhanced patterns. Don't forget, Maestro is backed by a larger company, Limbic Media. AI Light Show is mainly two guys. I'm throughly enjoying my Force1

Hi @@djtravismcguire, thanks for your feedback. I prefer the AI Light Show hardware but it seems MaestroDMX will have, or already has, much more options. Becomes a difficult decision. FYI, this is an answer I got from AI Light Show about future releases: Quote: 'We have a major upgrade planned for release in late April. (We’re about 4 weeks behind our initial release estimate date). This upgrade includes the ability to dial in specific colors, gobos, prisms, etc., and activate those selections at any time, including RGBAW+UV color mixing selections. There’s also fixture group overrides such that you can turn on/off any fixture group (6 fixture groups in total), turn any fixture group into Wash mode, apply static scenes to any fixture group while leaving the rest reacting to music, and a number of other functions. It’s a large update that is addressing the majority, if not all, requests we’ve received from our first production run of beta units.'

I would say the hardware and software that is easiest to operate as well as easy on th budget. Alot of controllers in the $600 range with minimal features up to 2 dmx universes. What if you put grow 2 univeses movers are going to 32 channels pixel mapping. Pay 💰 monthly to use said software/hardware

Maestro doesn't launch until October-ish. I will have AI Light Show in my possession this time next week.

Good question. I know for sure that AI Light Show does not. The only time you would need to hook it up to your computer is to update the lighting profiles or for firmware updates. I can not speak for MaestroDMX because I don't own one yet.

I have Maestro on order:) Soh is a Lighting software that listens to the music and allows you to set triggers based on the beat, frequency, and other attributes. I have been using it since 1999. I use it for all my DJ Lighting and Christmas Lighting shows. I have been working on a video for it but have not finished. Mostly cause no one asked:) I have used Soundswitch but I find it lacking in the attributes. For example I can tie the speed, frequency, volume, or beat to the attributes so it changes dynamic based on the attributes. I do use it when I have a set show I am doing. @@DINU_R for now. Hahaha. Keep in mind that both devices are still in Beta, so a lot of improvement has yet to happen. From a DJ POV, I tend to agree with you. I feel like AI Light Show will be the better option while still having some hands-on interaction. Maestro's strengths, in my opinion are lights that have pixel mapping. It seems to handle pixels better & more organically. It will be best for bands where they just set & forget.

I am more prone to AI lightshow. I like to be able to control my hardware and have manual overide. more importanltly it does not require an additional device like a smart phone or computer.

Venue Tetra light controller does a better job… my opinion. Look into it ya’ll.

The problem with the Tetra device is, according to every review I have been able to find, is you are very limited. According to the only reviews I could find, movers are not compatible and the tetra device only runs chase sequences to the audio. The AI devices don't have built-in chase scenes, everything is ran off of an algorithm so you will never seen the same patterns often. I have seen quite a few videos of Tetra and I really wasn't impressed.

@@djtravismcguireI’m not really impressed by this one either. It’s not following the music as good as Soundswitch. Why put out this video if it’s not synced correctly with music. False advertising.
