A very clear and concise video of this generator. I have the same one. I changed the oil last night. I put about a half quart in it and it's about a third of the way up the dipstick. My question is: do you screw the dipstick in and then take it out to check oil level or do you just put it up to the threads and take the measurement from there? I would have thought adding 16 oz's of oil would have it coming right up to the threads like you showed in your video, but it didn't. I don't want to put more in. Anyway, awesome video and thank you for posting!!!!
@johnnysweekends7 ай бұрын
Yup bottom of the threads. No measuring and this assures it has enough especially if it leaks or burns a little oil. It’s just a small finger that sweeps into the oil and flings it. And thank you 👍🏼😀

I'm debating between this one and predator and the duracell battery one.. price is not the object. my radio equipment runs on a twenty amp power supply and if the grid went down I would want something to run the radios. I don't know if any of them would do the job.
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
20 amp for one of these is not enough. Well for any of these smaller gens you need to buy two or one bigger one. Even a 2500 watt that is 2100 running is not enough. Always better to have a little more then not enough. So options are one bigger about 3000watt or 2 smaller ones which will give extra.

👍is the carburetor drain bolt the one with spring behind it commected to the fuel hose hanging free? And is there and idle screw on it that might need adjusting? Thank greats video
@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
Yes drain screw is the larger one facing out at the bottom of the float bowl with a fuel line going to bottom of generator. No fuel screw to adjust as it should be capped. Just spark plugs and oil changes and clean airfilter and spark arrestor…👍🏼
@adrianv94373 жыл бұрын
Have you done a carb tear down and cleaning on this unit? My A-I power generator has started surging and I’m assuming it’s the float. I started to take it apart and got scared so I put it back together and figured I’d try again some other time.
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
So most these carbs are all the same on many models. When does it surge in low rpm range and and maybe hard starting..?? And no sorry no video since there are several out there because so many of these use the same carb.
@adrianv94373 жыл бұрын
Surges at high and low rpms, I notice it most when eco mode is on. I messed up and let it sit with gas in it for over a month and a half.
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
Two things I would do first… Try a new spark plug it’s worth $4 to see if it fixes the issue sometimes you would be surprised. Next clean the low speed circuit jet. It sits on the outside on top of the body just of to the side of the carburetor. It’s a black circle that sits in the carb. Looks like a black plastic Phillip screw. It pulls straight up and out with a flat head or needle tip pliers. It has a very very small hole that gets plugged . You need a really small paper clip or thick wire to poke through it. Don’t poke something bigger then the hole or it will mess it up. If not comfortable doing it then find a video or maybe I could make one in a few days after I finish a couple others up…

So I would work on getting it fired up. Change oil maybe get a spark plug just in case and add fresh fuel. Then you need to try and fire it up before you leave to make sure the carburetor hasn’t been contaminated from the fuel and having some of it crystallized in the jets. The small jet loves to plug easy.

This was a really great video! Thanks for sharing your expertise. How often should I maintain my generator if I use it extremely infrequently? I have one of the a-i power 2kw dual fuel generators that I run using exclusively propane. It is only run during power outages, maybe twice a year for a total of 10 hours at most per outage. What do I need to keep in mind given my use scenario?
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
If using only propane that helps a lot. You don’t have to worry really about the carburetor being gummed up or crystallized with old gasoline. I would make sure the carb is completely drained of gas with the fuel screw on the bottom and drain it completely along with the fuel tank as well. Let it air out and then stick to propane if ya can. But at least this way it’s ready to run on gas when needed. I would change the oil once a year for that type of use. Or if you want you could change it after you run it those 10-15 hrs then it’s ready. Do a quick air filter check and carry a spare spark plug and zip tie it inside the gen or on the handle or somewhere you’ll know you have it and don’t have to run out to get it. Other then that it’s simple, change oil once a year or every 50 hrs unless really used hard and in high heat and visual air filter checks. Change spark plug when hard to start. Easy to store on propane.

I sold it to someone along time ago who I did see once after several months and he out about 200 or more on it. Care is a big thing. I have many happy viewers who have this. I also have many unhappy Honda owners. Over the Honda will be better but these cheaper units are starting to get impressive with what people are getting out of them. Change the oil frequently Always run a fuel conditioner And stay with in the 30-75 percent load range. Sure you can go above here and there but if you are always using 1400 plus watts all the time you should bump up to the next size unit.

@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
Yea it’s possible the old gas is causing part of the problem….. one of the first things is replace gas with fresh, and get a new spark plug. Then let it run for a couple mins at idle see if helps or put a light load on it . If that’s not it then the idle jet is possibly plugged but I would start easy first. These need to be ran at least every 3 months if you can or run a ethanol free fuel if you are gonna store or fully drain the carb.
@UrdazFilms3 жыл бұрын
@@johnnysweekends ill try removing the old gas and replacing the spark plug. Thank you so much! Which gas should I use? I use regular gas from gas station..
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
Regular is fine if you use the gen all the time but if rarely you need to add some fuel additive like Lucas fuel treatment or sea foam. If not used hardly ever then ethanol free is the best way to go. If the above ideas don’t work the the idle jet needs to be pulled out and cleaned

@@johnnysweekends One thing is for sure I dont think these are Yamaha engines made in Japan, I hope Yamaha has some good quality control in those Chinese factories.
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
Well considering about every power product you buy that is a small engine is built in China . Generators, power washers, lawn mowers, and more it’s crazy how 85% of everything is coming from there. You can’t even find a American made portable inverter gen. Maybe designed here but that’s it. Even a 3rd roughly of the Honda’s are being built there. 🤷♂️

Ahh if you are turning it off from running a decently high load it probably just back fired or popped a little bit from a lean condition. These generators fuel mixture is set pretty lean to help with emissions. For the most part you fine.
