Nice video, thanks My conclusion is that they are exactly the same, same factory, same components, you are paying for the Yamaha name with the blue one, that's it. It would cost more to have a different assembly run than it is worth IMO. Day shift cranks out Yamaha and night shift cranks out the other.

I believe it’s more about longevity with these two, the Yamaha powered will probably last a lot longer because of it’s quality.
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends 3 жыл бұрын
I would agree with that, but for the most part when I see these die or when viewers reply the thing that dies is the ability to put out power. So for the most a electrical issue is the cause and probably the inverter board that has failed I would assume.

When you ran both generators it did double the sound. The way the logarithmic decibel scale works, every 3 dB change is equivalent to doubling the energy of the noise. You went from about 61 to 63.5 which is nearly doubling the energy.

This is true but humans do not detect this. They only perceive double when it’s about 7 db louder.

Yamaha says their mz80 has cast iron cyl sleeve. That maybe where the cost difference comes in. I dunno if the others are plated or also iron but generally the cheaper motors are plated vs the commercial engines being lined with cast iron.

I don't own one of these generators, but all of my "American branded" lawn equipment has Chinese made engines. I have been using them for almost 12 years and they are still running great. My biggest concern with buying an unrecognized brand product is that parts may not be available when needed. Other than that, if the reviews are good I would have no issues with the Chinese made engine.

I’m a small engine mechanic. It doesn’t matter if they look similar or run similar when new. Spend the $200!! If taken care of, your Yamaha engine will last the rest of YOUR life. The Chinese knock-off will not have the quality internals or precise clearances required for longevity.

Walmart has the Yamaha version for $ 500 (we just got one as a backup) so maybe not that much difference out of pocket too. I remember some years back 10 or so when I first saw a south Korean made Honda Trail 70 in Miami. So after S. Korea got the blueprints out of Japan for the Honda QA 50, and the CT 70's it was only a matter of time for more blueprints to find there way out of Japan. At the end of the day or in this case a few years the generator with that Yamaha name on it will be worth more I believe, then again not much last no matter the brand/name it seems.

Great video! I own the Yamaha 2000, and have worked on a friend's I-Power 2000 (with Yamaha engine) when it needed a carb cleaning. Absolutely amazing how the small inverter gen market has all copied each other over and over. It seems to be mostly a marketing approach, and price point. Speaking of which, I would like to see a comparison of the Generac 3000 or 3300, against the same Craftsman 3000 or 3300 inverter gens. The Craftsman is made by Generac. They have 99-100% identical specs on watts, engine, and weight. But the Craftsman is typically listed for about $100 more!! Either way, they seem to have some of the highest KW ratings for "suitcase" style inverter gens.
@johnnysweekends

Yes for the most part a lot of these are the same. Yamaha I think just decided to sell a lot of engines to who ever wants them. But they have done this for years even when I worked in the watercraft industry they sold jet ski engines to other manufacturers. So it’s nothing new but I don’t see a exact copy of a Honda to be honest. At first I thought there was copies but no. The generac and craftsman’s will also be the same but a different case but sometimes the electronics will be different like different features and maybe different inverter board allowing more power. I will try and add those to the list…👍🏼 Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching 👍🏼😀

Yea the only way to tell is to tear it apart which I don’t really wanna do. But back when I worked in the marine and water craft industry and worked on Yamaha seadoo and Kawasaki a brand came out for a bit called mastercraft wetjet duo it was a knock off brand that lasted maybe 2 or 3 years. The power plant was a direct Yamaha jet ski engine and electronics but all Yamaha stamping was removed. I assume today Yamaha still sells engines along with other companies just with the stamp removed because so many other items need a power plant. The only problem with clone engines is that the metals used may not be the same quality than the original engine, so if the Yamaha runs for 2000 hours with little to no wear, the clone may be worn out at the same time with the same oil due to low quality metals in the internals of the engine.

Easy, they can actually run a 13500k unit as long as the unit is in good working order. But you will be about maxed out and should maybe up to something a pinch bigger. Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching 👍🏼😀

Something else to think of you can get cheaper engine option from Amazon with a 4-year extended warranty for $470. I really think that's the Best buy because of the cheap motor fails you're going to get $400 credit.

That’s not bad at all..👍🏼 and it’s still a Yamaha engine with out the stamp.

The motors may look the same but there is a difference in finished quality of accuracy in the mating surfaces, valves, piston, crank, etc. Meaning; with proper oil changes, you will get much more life out of the Yamaha motor. This is just my opinion.
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
Have you tore down these model? Same crank, bearings, piston the same? Just curious as I would assume that is where most the price diff would come from. Maybe the Yamaha gen coil is also better with more windings. Never tore these down to fully compare internals
@jamesdewer
@jamesdewer Жыл бұрын
That will come out in the wash, substandard parts will equate to substandard performance. It's a fact that cheap bearings make more noise as do unbalanced cranks. So the fact they produce the same. Results is likely an indication there is also little variation in longevity.

I know the guy who fixes these under warranty. He told me the blue model is better the red version because of the valving.

I ended up ordering the “normal” red “non-Yamaha” version of these generators in this video today based off of this video. Amazon $394. 11/2/21. I could’ve held out for a better price or the Yamaha version, but I honestly don’t think it’ll make much difference for my use.
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends 3 жыл бұрын
I honestly don’t think it will either after playing with both. Save your money. Biggest thing is use it frequently or store it properly and change oil frequently like it says. Hope your happy with it. I don’t really see complaints on it. It does what it needs to do. Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching..😀👍🏼
