The problem is that Caitlin has had this in the works for quite a while. They've already close to sold out the arena. All the activities have been planned and coordinated. Everything has been long scheduled. For the last 6 years, including the last time Wilson was gifted with an MVP she really didn't earn, her school could have retired her number. They didn't. They "just happened" to wait until Clark and Iowa announced their ceremony, then they "suddenly" decided to have a retirement for Wilson's 22 at South Jealousina. What's next, Caitlin's high school holds a "Favorite Daughter" ceremony for her and "suddenly" Wilson's private school does the same thing? The elementary school Caitlin attended wants to have her speak at the school, and "suddenly" Wilson's private primary school "invites her to speak"? Caitlin gets an invitation from the Mayor of her hometown to receive the Keys to the City, and Wilson "suddenly" gets a similar offer? Talk about obsessive compulsion. If I were Caitlin, I'd have a restraining order placed on A'ja Wilson and anyone associated with her, as well as having a court take judicial notice that Wilson is essentially a stalker.

Answer? A'ja probably kept pressuring North Carolina until they caved in. I find it very strange that after 6 years, North Carolina suddenly decides to retire her number. Awards seem to be very important to A'ja. Caitlin has said in interviews that she doesn't even think about MVP awards because basketball is a team sport and picking an MVP from a team aspect is very subjective. She has said she is more concerned with winning than arbitrary awards. However, A'ja's ego views awards as confirmation of her personal ability.

True Answer: Each college has different rules about how long it must be before jerseys are eligible for retirement. Bigger schools have more stringent requirements in place.
