Racism persists in America. Rather than celebrating these young women's achievements, some choose to post derogatory comments. It's time to acknowledge that the individual touted as the "great white hope" by some is not yet prepared for the Olympics. To set a record, one must surpass a previous holder's achievement, yet the black women before CC did not receive comparable national recognition. Had the WNBA capitalized on marketing its athletes as they are now with CC, they could have significantly boosted their revenue. Fans worldwide admire WNBA players, not just CC.

This is not true for several reasons. 1 - I would know the B player you were talking about. 2 - there's enough women alone who watch and support the NBA, who don't watch or support the WNBA, to make it successful as a business. 3 - let your denial go. The viewerships is low because not enough people has cared about this league or the masculine alphabet women in it. We know they can play. We still don't care or want to see them breath loud and like men running around acting like something they will never physically be. Please, admit this to yourself. Break. @what77und, your assertions are incorrect, and I will clarify each point, as it seems you're echoing misconceptions. 1) A true basketball enthusiast would recognize all the leading players. 2) The WNBA enjoys viewership from both men and women; however, media support for players has been lacking until recently. If the media had given the WNBA the same coverage as they have to CC, the league wouldn't rely on the NBA for financial backing. Consider the NBA's popularity-it wouldn't be the same without media exposure. Icons like MJ, Magic, Larry, Kobe, and Shaq are known because of media influence. 3) It's incorrect to assume that the majority of WNBA players are gay; actually, only about 30% are. The majority are heterosexual, and not wearing makeup is not an indicator of one's sexuality. These women are athletes, and their job is to play basketball, not to look pretty for the camera.. Women's basketball at both the college and professional levels is a physical sport. Moreover, there are numerous gay NBA players who conceal their sexuality to avoid potential backlash, which seems to be a concern based on your comment regarding the women.

I don't watch NBA but I buy Jordan's and watch his old games. I now do the same for Angel Reece and CC, all while I can't name one player who played prior to them, nor do I need to. My money support who I like. If a player is liked by masses, they're rewarded with a media following. Your number two is irrelevant. Media coverage isn't given, it's earned if you're liked. If player never got it, they weren't liked enough by the masses. That's fair!!! Theirs no media welfare. Only wnba salary welfare. Also, I never said anything about makeup and didn't say all wnba players are gay.

Well said! And you’re 100% correct about the marketing. College athletes being allowed to brand themselves through NIL contracts is also a big reason for the increased viewership. The new generation of athletes are benefiting from luxuries that players before them didn’t have. It’s extremely ignorant to attribute the success of the league to one person.

Great dialogue!!! I agree WNBA has not had a good marketing strategy for years upon years now. The NIL has given current college athletes a platform and fan base beyond their fellow college peers and boosters. It's time for WNBA to step up. I started following the WNBA when Rebecca Lobo and Teresa Weatherspoon were with the Liberty and Lisa Leslie played with the Los Angeles Sparks and Tina Thompson with the Houston Comets. Dawn Staley with Charlotte Sting and Houston Comets. Sue Bird with Seattle Storm. They were excellent players and have gone on to do some pretty good things. The 2024 Rookie WNBA class has bright futures and opportunities galore. Success for them all. I salute and celebrate them all.🏀🏀🏀

We as Americans are not the only eyes on the Olympics, this is not a thing that needs hype, it already has hype. USA female basketball not having viewers is bc the US citizens aren’t watching. Foreigners are going to get us those views, as well as our own. Say it with me, “we need medals, not profit.” These kinds of events, when we win, boosts tourism, which gains us money. That’s why things such as the World Cup, Olympics, Euros, etc are important. It’s not a marketing thing for an organization, it’s for our country.
