I was listening to a bunch of Jackie McLean last night. He's my fave sax guy. Always happy to see him being recommended. He deserves way more love.

Agreed! Saw Him and his son (Rene) perform at Atlanta's Chastain Park (I think) Their performance was outstanding. Already having been a fan of Jackie's, I was pleasantly surprised to hear how great a comb, together, they were.

Yeah!! Love Jackie.. I was listening to "Lee Way" just the other day and I'm here to say Morgan and McLean make one helluva' front line

Easy fix on playing DSD signal is to rip your SACDs and then play the DSF file on a DAC (I have the Denafrips Ares II).

Hey Kenny, my Brother! That Jackie Mclean lp is a winner! I have a late 80's cd copy and a Jazz Images issue on high quality vinyl, The front of the cover is different from the cd, although on the back of it is a small picture of the original lp. It is a deluxe gatefold cover with original liner notes, extra connotation and photos. Sonically the vinyl is superior in dynamics and presence. The cd is the opposite and has less warmth and atmosphere. I would have to turn the cd up at a higher volume to gain some impact and instrument detail. I have been looking for a RVG remaster of this, or a reissue on vinyl for years! The Jazz Images copy is good, but i would prefer a Kevin Gray, a Tone Poets, or a classic Pathe Marconi/Cadre Rouge from the mid 80's. These will have the original album cover and Bluenote center lable on the lp. There is something that is just magical and spiritual watching a Bluenote album spinning on the turntable before dropping the stylus!

I hope all is well and great with you. I think it would be cool if that SACD of Jackie Mclean was reissued as a Tone Poets as well.

Kenny...got to say, my favorite Doug Carn album is "Spirit of the New Land" (with Jean Carn) I wore the record out (talkin' about snap, crackle, pop) The cut 'My Spirit' is great, but the whole album fantastic.

I have that album and it's great, no doubt 👌

Hi Kenny, the old SACD releases have a special decription chip from Sony that was needed to read the SACD layer. So it had to be decoded on the player and could only be sent out via RCA or XLR. Some people figured out if the SACD player was also DVD compliant you could pull the digital stream off of the HDMI or component video outputs. However even this signal was different that a DAC needs so you need a signal converter as well as a special cable that can output the digital stream.

I'm not sure how the later blue ray players worked

Morning Kenny! Love hearing you talk about your jazz records! Do you have any modern jazz albums in your collection? What are your thoughts on jazz artist of today? People like Kamasi Washington, Esperanza Spalding, Alfa Mist, etc.

Good morning 😊....I do not have much modern jazz in my collection at all, but its something that I would like to explore in the future, especially Esperanza Spalding.

Good morning Kenny, I wasn't aware that the Jaclie McLean album was available on SACD. I've had the Red Book version for some time, it's a great session. But then, pretty much everything Jackie released back in those days are outstanding. I also enjoy recordings that he did with his son Rene McLean such as "Rites of Passage." I'll have to find a way to check out that Doug Carn, I don't own a turntable anymore and as far as I can tell, it wasn't released on CD or digital format. Anyhow, good stuff as usual. Enjoy your day.
