This podcast is so wonderful! As a scientist and retired clinical trial manager, what you said about studies and IRBs is spot on! And key to understand our healthcare is that most studies are funded by those that will benefit financially the most (eg big Pharma) and not necessarily the natural food/ health industry. Western medicine concentrates on covering up symptoms (pain pills/antidepressants) and not finding the actual root cause of the illness. The fact that most functional doctors are not covered by insurance exacerbates the problem. Plus, in our society, people have a lack of patience and want a quick fix (ie pill) rather than a health driven diet and exercise. These pills often cause additional illness while covering up the initial issue.

Yes! Stress is killing us and making us so sick! I’m not sure society realizes the importance of addressing and controlling stress and anger and fear. Causing so much physical and emotional pain. What a fabulous podcast! 👍🏼👏🏼♥️🙏thank you!

This is wonderful information. My belief, after being sick for 20-30 years, and detoxing my body (which I had too because my organs were shutting down ) that fat is required for cell health and function. I eat a high fat diet and feel much better than before on a low fat diet.

@@icanbestrongerI had my gallbladder removed years ago, too, but haven’t been impacted at all by eating fat. Maybe if you take things a bit slower? I tend to focus on getting plenty of protein and don’t consciously add fat. Well, unless you consider that I choose to eat full fat yogurt, cottage cheese, and sour cream. I still tend to drain fat from any hamburger and steam my fish. And, in the past when I was trying to lose weight (80 lbs), I usually considered that on a ketogenic, the body fat that I was burning was part of percentage of fat I was “eating” when I considered the approximate calories I was eating. Just really kept track of the carbs I was eating and tried to keep them below 30 grams a day. Later, I was more low-carb and combined that way of eating with intermittent fasting. My “bright line” now is: No sugar, grains, or seed oils and don’t really measure anything. I don’t want to lose anymore weight, though, and since listening to Mary Ruddick, I plan on cooking more with animal fat.

I've learned so much from this video. Mary is very knowledgeable on nutrition. I've been having major brain fog issues and I've been experiencing some of the symptoms of high oxalates. I've been dairy free for a while now, but now I may have to change it up a bit. I also didn't know that a Carnivore diet could be beneficial to mental health. I have been a vegetarian for almost thirty years now, so to go on a all carnivore diet would be really difficult for me, but I have mental issues, so it has me thinking. Thank you so much for providing this wonderful information!

You sound just like me. I’m feeling better and better just eating low ox veggies, fruit and having Greek organic olive oil. I also introduced chicken, turkey and hard boiled egg slowly. I’m not doing red meat tho. I use a slow cooker with broth for the meat. So tender it’s almost like eating tuna. It helps to give thanks to the animal before eating just like the American Indian 😊. Good luck!

You may just need to up your animal fat a bit. I have done keto/carnivore for 2.5 years now and i notice that my depression is gone when my animal fats are adequate. so at least 100gm of fat. But if my fat is low, my mood will really struggle. Fat is really helpful for brain and nerve function. :)

Kefir grain can have up to 77 different bacteria microbes that live together, and can seed overtime within the gut. I have the Bulgaria grain strain, there are many, Tibet strain looks the best.

Great Pod & Hands down Mary´s work is more than fantastic. I follow it with great interest THANK You both (spec. Mary) PS: Ikaria, upp until the early 60:s, was one of the prison-islands in Greece. There, communists & others, for whatever reason, persecuted by the right-wing regime in Athens... Where forced there, under harsh conditions as part of their "rehabilitation" (a little ugly detail for this beautiful island and its people)

What causes the high atherosclerosis rate (without increased mortality from CVD) in the Masai?
@AncestralFuel
@AncestralFuel 2 жыл бұрын
Dr Mann in the 70s studied the Maasai and conducted hundreds of autopsies and found they had signs of heart disease but essentially no heart attacks. His theory was that it was their extensive walking - average 12 miles a day. They herd animals on foot. For this reason and many others, I walk 10 miles a day in case the carnivore diet was not best for me - it seems to be best, but I am not certain. Extensive low impact aerobic exercise is for me an insurance policy.

In terms of the blue zones I think Dan Buetner got a pretty girlfriend who is vegan and the stories of the blue zones took off and got skewed from there. Sorry but it’s true. Same with the plant based doc Will Bulzeweitz and his beauty Queen wife who turned him vegan. Now he only preaches vegan diets.

Ach, now I understand why they eat traditionally. It is because communism stifles growth and development so they were not even able to come to a point where the most modern and developed countries are and therefore they dont have these problems as we in the modern world have. Communism has literarly set them back and they are stuck with foods and way from long time ago. There is a false assumption here that Mary is making that communism is something beautiful and it helps preserve tradition. People in general were eating healthier in the past and Ikaria is just a place frozen in time by the claws of communism. We can use that to learn and study a diet from the past but a communism as an ideology is really harmful. Just look at Soviet Russia, North Korea, China and any other place which has communism as an ideology in place. Mary I love you but communism stifles growth.

Love these interviews and have listened to many of them, but always rushing as a busy mom. I've noticed there is a lot of repetition.. Les saying the same thing in the intro then when starting to talk to the person, I don't know why the intro is even remotely necessary. Same with the end bit although that's easier to cut off. And in questions, noticed a lot of drawn out explaining, sounds like my dad talking lol. I think the interviewees get what you're saying right away as does the audience and it gets redundant. Hope constructive criticism is okay! Love the channel so much, live for Sarah's mediations! But yeah wish the interviewing was a bit more succinct and concise so they wouldn't be unnecessarily longer. Just sharing bc if I feel this way I'm sure others do too. Thank you!

I seriously don't know what she means when she says the body doesn't use carbs in the cells?? When glycogen is used up, muscle protein is broken down into amino acids. The liver uses amino acids to create glucose through biochemical reactions (gluconeogenesis). For energy. Everything gets made into glucose, or hormones or amino acids. Depending.....

I think she is referring to the Randall Cycle, which when you combine fats and carbs, the carbs get locked out of your cells and thus raise blood sugar.
