Typically children with OCD are more "mature" or "wise" because we're very deep thinkers that compartmentalize our thoughts. I remember by the age of 7 I was deeply thinking into things like death, the afterlife, overall the world around me.

Oh my. It is like watching me and my son. My son has Touretts, OCD and anxiety. The same tics. I had the same reaction to his diagnosis as this mom... Wow. My son is now 20, almost tic free, studying for an engineering degree, has lots of friends, never had a problem with his condition despite my worries. Anyway. This kid is awesome. I wish him all the best.

Genuinely curious, did your son grow out of the Touretts or is there medication he takes? Can new tics develop even now after he's almost tic free?
@imonka100
@imonka100 11 ай бұрын
@daniellewallace1996 There isn't really any medication for Touretts. We were lucky our son grew out of it. Not completely, he still has a subtle tics, however, only we can notice as we know. Otherwise, there are not noticable at all and are very random. He was on medication for his anxiety only for about a year, otherwise he has not been on any medication. His OCD and anxiety are pretty managable as well now.

Only to be helpful: I have deleted your syndromes in other people, and it was straightforward. Now you fear losing your diagnosis, but life is much better without it. It's not a diagnosis. It's an installed program that can be disabled. In every way act normal, not despite the syndrome, but because it never happened. Never relate a single thought to the syndrome, turn around and do something normal.

I'm so grateful to you for giving this brave, funny, intelligent young man an opportunity to fight some of the stigma around this misunderstood syndrome! Most people think Tourette's is just "that thing that makes people swear," and they don't know about the underlying anxiety or other forms it takes. I experienced constant tics and twitches as a kid, coupled with relentless anxiety. I was never diagnosed with Tourette's, but I've wondered for a long time whether I might have it, or OCD, or what. All I know is that even as an adult I have tics and compulsive behaviors that I cannot control, and I'm still an anxious, high-strung person.

@QuantumMecha
@QuantumMecha 10 ай бұрын
@@windwhisprz I’m not sure if it’s autism ALWAYS, but I also have an incredibly strong sense of justice. It compels me to be…basically really mean back to people who are mean to others first (this is the one I notice the most just because I’m online a lot). I don’t feel better if I DON’T do that, to be honest. Like if I see someone say something positive, and someone comes around to say something negative, I go out of my way to do whatever I can to get “revenge” for said person. If it’s a situation where it’s not what someone said, but rather DID? And I can’t do anything? Yeah it eats me up. I think about getting cut off like, HOURS after the fact. Or people not using their blinker or doing things the “Right” way. So, no advice really, my man. Just solidarity.
@GeekGamer666
@GeekGamer666 6 ай бұрын
@@QuantumMecha If you think about getting cut off for hours then you may want to talk to a mental health professional about it because that's a bit extreme. It's also important to remember that in that specific situation, people aren't always intentionally doing things like that. They're too focused on changing lanes, etc. and some of the time don't even realise what they've done. In addition, the best response to mean people isn't to become like them, and by responding on their level you're often reacting the way that they want. Removing emotional language and sticking to the facts removes fuel for those kind of people to feel justified in being awful people and the action of taking a breath and writing in an emotionally neutral way is a step that helps calm you so that once you choose to finish commenting it helps you put it aside and not dwell on it.

He described anxiety so well. It literally just happens to you one day, and you’re usually not doing anything different to what you normally would. It just drops on you like a sandbag from the sky and it turns your entire life upside down until you can get help or figure out how to cope. It destroyed my health the summer before high school and I wasn’t “better” until the following year. I’m so proud to see a younger person have the vocabulary and knowledge to express how he feels so easily. That’s such an amazing skill to have at his age. From another anxious person, I love you Ben! You make me feel less alone. ❤❤❤

Benvoilo reminds me of my brother. He was diagnosed with the same disorders as a young child and went through some very hard times. Less was known about these disorders back in the 1990s so he dealt with a lot of stigma and ridicule. I remember some terrible advice given by his doctors… for example, that he needed life long institutional care. That said, he’s about to turn 40 this year, has over come a lot of those challenges and lives a normal life - he’s married and has 2 young kids of his own. His experiences have made him a more considerate, empathetic person than you’d typically meet and he translates this into everything he does. Benvolio is a fantastic young man and no doubt he will also live a wonderful and fulfilling life!

Your strength is not what makes me cry. It’s your façade... it’s the way you deal with the handicap when you’re with a complete stranger OFF CAMERA and without anyone noticing... your vulnerability to trust. To me it’s a bit similar to meeting a small frightened kitten and when I befriend you you show me your true colors. Meeting a handicaped frightened and then reassured person in total intimacy is the greatest gift I wish anyone could experience ... and I know you don’t give that easily. Thank you for existing. I also worry about the things that my tics have been affecting such as driving and having conversations with people even my own family memebers. I also have ocd that bothers me alot before I go to bed and have co e to realise why i become so frustrated and agrivated so easily over such small things, only now realizing that its a comorbidity of my tourettes. i love hearing a kid advocate for himself at such a young age! benvolio, you have such a good manner of speech even at your young age and i can see how much you accept yourself for who you are. and i LOVE seeing a kid see their disability as neutral already so early in life. this early knowledge and self-confidence will take you far!

Im saying this because I really like to see other people be open about their tics and experiences with it. i relate to a lot of what benvolio said, and im glad information about tics can spread more! so thank you for sharing your story. Im wishing you the best and all kindness for the future!

9:15 my heart. I hope this young boy will get through this, I have the stomach pain too with my anxiety.. I throw up so much when I’m having anxiety and like he said things are just normal, but I don’t feel normal. This young boy is going through so much at such a young age, I hope his mother is alright too.

This is such a cool kid, so straightforward and honest. The way he said "I don't mind" when the interviewer asked if he likes talking about this stuff was so cool. He's awesome.

This kid's mum is great. Like maybe its been a learning process, but its extremely refreshing to see a mum not sigh and "glace knowingly" to the camera when talking about her son's specific routines. Too many times I see mum's thinking thier kid is just being unnecessarily fussy.

I hear you, Benvolio. For what it’s worth, things get both easier and harder in some ways as you get older and learn to better manage these conditions. Incidentally, you got yourself and awesome name. I’ve never heard it before, it’s unique and pretty dope!

I also have Tourette's, which I didn't realize until I was 40! (I also have OCD, so I can relate to this young man.) I wish I had known the reason for my tics when I was as young as Benvolio; my childhood would have been a lot better. Hang in there, Ben, I'm rooting for you! Things WILL work out OK, I promise. Your future is so bright, you gotta wear shades! 😎

Benvolio I don’t know you but I am so proud of you and your mom too. I had panic attacks and OCD and tics too as a kid (me and my brother both had a sniffle tic and i still have that one and lots of body touching tics and wringing my hands) and I wish someone knew what it was or what was wrong or how to help. I felt so alone and it just made the anxiety worse until I got really sick as a teenager. I am so proud and happy for you to be able to describe and understand your conditions at such a young age.
