I can’t remember ever having read one of her books. But maybe I did before I started to write down the books I’ve read. I do remember watching Strangers on a train 🙂

Oooooh, the Queen of Tension and Suspense, what a glorious chunk of reading you guys have planned! Only read Ripley, 👀 that and Strangers on a Train movies , so this is a nudge to read some more. Possibly her journals? 🤔 My challenge is to read ( a very short!) novel in Dutch 🤞

I think I've read more books by Patricia Highsmith than any other female author. Her character Ripley was amazing.

I recently got the other two Ripley novels (3?) the Everyman edition and the audiobook of Carol and price of salt I think. After the first Ripley I knew I wanted to read more of her! What a fun project!

@@AnnNovellaAwesome call out of PH’s fans! Also, PH wrote her first crime story as a kid about stealing a thick bk in school! Fascinating author even as kid! Joan Schenkar’s biography of PH, anyone read?!!

sounds great, Ann! I am wondering, what do you think about reading about a writer before reading the work of a writer? I've enjoyed two books by Barbara Pym. I own a biography about her, but although I am curious, I'm putting it off because I feel I should read more of her books first. Wht do you think?

@@AnnNovella it’s hard to pinpoint because the characters to me are friends. Sometimes, I’ll read a Ripley novel, saying “let’s see what Tom is up to today.” The one I’ve read the most over and over is Cry of the Owl. The least favorite is “Game for the Living” but I think I’m warming up to it. “Those who knock on the door” is a true masterpiece of our misguided dogma around religion. I absolutely love “ A Dog’s Ransom” and the “Blunderer” . Somehow to me being the lightest but I need to include the Ripley one where the neighbors drown in the pond in their yard! The first one I read of Highsmith was “The Boy Who Followed Ripley” and I fell in love immediately with her writing style and characterization. I really appreciate detail and minutiae. My favorite line in her books is “Those Italians and their ubiquitous tomato sauce.” Thanks for asking!
