In this video I will tell your where you can purchase an inexpensive tail rack and pannier racks for your KTM 390 Adventure. Since the bikes hit the India market a year before North America companies there had a chance to start making aftermarket parts. Luggage options that I was interested in for this bike did not seem readily available so with a little research I found the company Zana International out of India. I was able to order the tail rack and pannier racks with a three week delivery time. I show the installation of the pannier racks in this video. You can find these items at the following link.

Hi Matt, I finally took the plunge on the strength of this video! You made the install look really simple, or maybe I'm simple, as I had a bit of trouble. Had to elongate two holes on the rack and fumble with the pannier rack, but yeah it is exactly as you said it would be. I will strengthen the panniers like you suggested in a later video, makes a lot of sense. I would hope to eventually mount a fuel/water cell on the pannier rack

Good to know they take credit cards now. Considering the abuse I put these through they held up well. The racks are starting to show some wear, but that is to be expected. I still say they are great value.

Important to note that those side reflectors are required by law in North America. They are there to make your bike visible from the side at night. You are required to have red at the back and yellow at the front. If you get struck from the side your insurance company could give you a hard time and you may be found partially at fault. Just a heads-up.
@advmatt
@advmatt 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads up, I usually add reflective stickers that wont get covered up by luggage. It is good to note what the law requires. Thanks again.

Thanks for the videos, Matt. Several questions... Do you have a sense of how much the pannier rack weighs? How much weight each side of the rack can hold? Could I jury-rig a way to attach my SW-Motech Trax panniers to the rack or will the right size pannier hit the tailpipe when the suspension is compressed? Will the tailpipe be situated "inside" whatever panniers one puts on the racks? What are the outside dimensions of the "rectangle" that makes each side rack? Thanks a ton for posting the videos and for the information!
@advmatt
@advmatt 4 жыл бұрын
Hey John. Let me see how well I can answer your questions. I don't know how much the racks weigh, I would be guessing, but maybe 15lbs. I don't know how much weight they can hold. The website was very specific about not mounting aluminum panniers. With that said, I used some velcro strapping and wound it up from the pannier rack to the tail rack to add some bracing to increase the load capacity and anchor the panniers off of the tail rack. I just mounted the Givi Canyon softbags to the rack. They approximately 27 liters with an external 8 liter pouch. I plan to load about 20 pounds on each side. The tail pipe comes right to the bottom of the bag without touching. The tailpipe and rack will not move when the rear wheel moves through its travel, so no worries about wheel travel. The tailpipe on my bag ends right at the front right corner of the softbag. The outside dimesions of the rack are 6 1/2" tall by 12" wide, but it is more of a rhomboid shape. I think if you anchor the pannier to the tail rack then you may be able to use your SW-Motech panniers, but you may want to take it easy offroad. Just my thoughts. Thanks for watching.

Hey, I enjoy your videos and am thinking about the 390 as an additional bike, what is it like cruising down the highway at say 65-70 , will it do that okay or am I going to feel like I am rapping out too much , I would do the other screen and risers too like you have done . I have watched a lot of videos of these but haven't seen much on cruising with it . I would maybe replace a Honda XR650L, they are not much on cruising but great in other areas , Thanks

Sorry for the late reply. I just saw your message. Thanks for the links. The Givi racks look pretty good. The Givi racks look like they can handle more weight than the Zana ones. May be a good option in the future if I have trouble with what I mounted. Price doesn't look too bad either.

G'day Matt. So, a year on from the original purchase of the racks, and some really decent miles on the bike, how do the racks stack up for longevity? Did you bend them or have any issues with them?
@advmatt
@advmatt 2 жыл бұрын
Well, the racks served thier purpose but over the past two years the bracket under the seat has bent down and is sagging. The heavily loaded offroad use tested them. I think they have exceeded their service life. I am looking for something else now.

Matt, can you give me the dimensions of the square section of the racks. I’m in the process of ordering the Zana panniers and planning to embed the pelican ruck r60’s into the backside of the racks like the givi tool holders and the dimensions are 11.14" x 6.86" x 3.88". I think it is close judging from your video. Should fit flush inside the rack according to my calculations, without intruding on the tire flexion and still have exterior side to support choice of soft panniers (35L tusk in my case).
@advmatt
@advmatt 3 жыл бұрын
The rack size is 6 1/2" tall by 12" wide but it is not a rectangular shape, if you look at the video you will see the shape. I want to try the Tusk soft luggage, it looks really good. Hope this helps, if not, let me know and I can try to get better measurements. Cheers.

Read through the comments more closely and noticed you mentioned 12”x6.5” on the square section. I will just break out the dremel to get the dimensions I need. Will post to show the results. The pelican ruck r60 should be easily modified to sit flush and carry flat repair on one side and medical kit on the other. Super stoked!!
