The orange smoke is new, the first 4 shots of artillery now pop orange smoke to not only warn the enemy but show where the end valley of arty is gonna fall. Arty doesen't lose those 4 explosive rounds though, they get added to the final valley of shots to make it even stronger. (Update from 9th of february)

Mayhaps thinking of these as marker smoke for the artillery fire call as a workaround for the game I.e.: in the real world ideally one drops the artillery before the opponent realises but yes smoke rounds were used by field units to mark requests to forward observers who would then pass on the actual battlefield co-ordinated to supporting artillery batteries. . Think it works rather well m'sel :)

@@BRIANJAMESGIBB Oh that is true, i never really thought about that! The smoke has a different reason though. One of the Gajin devs talked about it (in a devlog? I think). They were unhappy about people just suddenly getting nuked out of nowhere by arty so they wanted to change it in a way that the enemy knows where they shouldn't wait, but still is dangerous as an area denial tool. Edit: In the patch notes it says "Targeting shots may damage vehicles only with direct hits (no splash damage)", so they are targeting shots! That's really cool. Maybe they can remove the 'Artillery Fire!' text in RB battles since you can see it because of the smoke

@@50shadesofcerakote, you only get a warning when the strike is first called in. If you stray into an arty zone after the warning but before the first shells hit, you don't know it's coming until it's hit. (I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure. I know it's happened to me before)

Now the first shells in the bombardment (artillery) will be loaded with coloured aerosol upon which spotters can guide the main salvo and pilots can see the location of likely targets. The explosion of aerosol shells doesn’t cause significant damage and gives any enemies in the epicentre of fire a chance to react.

I think they're meant to be chalk rounds, as artillery smoke rounds would have a much wider distribution area, and chalk rounds are easier/cheaper and you could more easily see the point of impact rather than have the whole AO obscured

Hey Phly! About 3 years ago you made a video about the AMX-30B2 BRENUS and how it was one of the worst MBTs in the game. Well today the BRENUS has had quite a glow up, as it now boasts a pretty nice array of tools at the comfortable BR of 8.3, such as thermals, a laser rangefinder, IRCM, and a pretty nice lineup to back it up. The sounds for air are so broken in this game, is almost impossible to tell where there's an aircraft coming from unless you're looking for it or if it's just one flying over a rather quiet battlefield. Props make sound only whey they feel like doing it and any jet sounds less than a sneaky Puma.

i have had this ever since it first came out and it is INSANE the reload rate is half of a normal kv2 and ALWAYS catches people out, this is always one of my first in a line up at that BR.

The smoke rounds are ranging shots from arty strikes, basically another early warning system that arty is falling in your area; not that the giant flashing text on screen didn't do that.

@PhlyDaily Phly... the ORANGE smoke... it's signalling smoke. It's replaced the first few shells of the artillery barrage, you know how there used to be the couple outside ones first and then the barrage would be in the middle? The orange is supposedly smoke to help the arty aim for spotters to see. On the Aral Sea map you actually got hit by one, you can hear the THUNK sound. Then, when the barrage strikes, there are now more shells added to replace the lethal shells turned into smoke.

The single worst thing about artillery is how it completely blinds you and then you get shot through it. Or when you get "outskilled" by a puma sitting at the back of the map who just keeps dropping arty. It's even worse when they can magically see through the arty smoke too.

@@SilentButDudley it is strong, but it's basically slower kv-85 at 5.7 instead of 4.7. Panzer kv-1 has the same frontal armor as kv-2, basically the same penetration at 5.0 and 6 second reload. I'd say it's a tie between panzer kv-1 and kv-85

I don't know why people try to do that with heavy bombers. I've never had any luck with anything but a Pe-8 or a Ju-188. You just can't really do anything effective unless you're doing point bombing, and of course, a bomber is useless after you drop your load. At 5.3-5.7 I almost exclusively use the Fw-190 F-8 with its 1000 kg bomb. It's about as accurate with bombs as any plane in the game. I only rarely fail to get a kill with the 1000. Quite often, if you've got a good eye for spotting opportunities, you get two or more kills with it. I once got 8 with one drop from the 190 F-8. It's decent fighter or mixing it up, decently fast, and has good gun armament. Probably my favorite combined battles plane in the game. Speaking of, I'd love to see Phly do another video featuring the Fw-190 F-8.

Theyre very expensive on the market and they absolutely destroy everything because the people who can afford them are usually seasoned players (ones who somehow think the game is worth investing real life money into, personally I'll rather kill myself with the grind than invest into WT) on top of it being a very good tonk, an opposite example of this is the Tiger where the tank is incredible for its BR, but most of the players playing it dont even know what angling means (no dirt at German mains who know how to play the Tiger, its just the sad reality)

I got this in the Kliment Vorosilov pack from Steam years ago when I started playing WT. I forgot about it for a long time, but recently I have been playing it somewhat. The reload is nice, for certain. At 5.0, it just did not have much of a lineup, but since the T-34-85 D-5T went to 5.0, it works better. If you get a big or hilly map (or a 6.0 uptier, gulp), you take out the T-34 first.
