Wow. This hit home. It has taken a lot of years and heartache, but I've broken free of the guilt of being successful in my tech career and approaching FIRE in the next year. My challenge has been finding my "tribe" of people of people who are high earners, understand the social contracts often placed on "the one who made it" and are in pursuit FIRE. So, just know, we're imaginary friends.

Agreed. It’s not really being selfish because someone has to survive and thrive to continue the ethnic lineage. All cannot self destruct. Look up the seed library of Svalbard. I have decided to be a seed saver for my lineage and humanity ❤

The “family contract” for me is another name for the “Black Tax”…it can be expensive, but it is very necessary. Julian’s characterization of this unwritten responsibility as “running in place” sums it all up!😥
