The Explorer is a tool watch and it has no “bezel” or complication. It just tells the time but is designed to endure knocks and bumps etc. The Milgauss has no complication. I think this being a Lange, for sports designed to handle anything you throw at it. Makes it the “tool.” A watches main job is to tell the time. A “tool” watch doesn’t have to have a complication IMO. Interesting vid none the less. The finishing does look amazing and the wrist shots make it look better than the initial pics as you said.

I totally see your point with the Explorer and the Milgauss! I think defining what a sports watch is could be an entire video for itself :-D and is definitely a very interesting topic!

I had tried on and examining the watch at my local boutique and here's my personal opinions- Cons- 1 The 5 links bracelet is very well crafted but the design is not very interesting. Lack of unique design. 2 The quick bracelet adjustment clasp design is not novel. It was found on GO sport model many years ago, currently it was discontinued. 3. My biggest issue is the interface design of the bracelet with the lugs. It doesnt blend in well like an integrated bracelet should be. I'm quite disappointed with this poor design from Lange which I have high level of expectations from them. Pros- 1. The dial, case and movement is certainly Lange high standards. No complaint here. Finishings are usual top notch from the house. 2. I'm most impressed with the 2 pushers that are integrated seamlessly into the case and the satisfying clicks when triggered. Awesome!

Odysseus is definitely the MOST sporty watch by Lange. I tried on the watch, and am slated to receive my long awaited unit within the next month or two. Can’t wait!!!

Question. Is it just as hard or harder to quite a Lange over Patek or AP?
@peteckrlui4 ай бұрын
@@kurtlawson9136 I was lucky enough to be the lucky few, being offered the Odysseus when it became available in Beijing, China; some 4 years ago. Having been an owner a Lange 1 since 2000, I snapped at such opportunity, and has been wearing my Odysseus for nearly 3 yeas +thus far. In terms of difficulty, getting an Odysseus at the local Lange & Sohne Boutique today is next to impossible. I know fellow Lange enthusiasts here in Greater China, despite having purchased MULTIPLE Lange time pieces over the past 3.5 years, but are still awaiting their supposed allotment. All of them were notified by Lange HQ in Germany that they names on the supposed wait list. But the wait continues…….

This is by far the best review i have ever seen on this watch. The thing about Lange watches is photos do not do their watches any justice. That is why all those talk on the bracelet being cheap, my guess is its from people who have not seen the watch in person. I showed the best photos of the Saxonia and Lange 1 to a non watch lover and her reaction was "meh". But when she saw the watch in person, it was like, "This is amazing".

I actually saw the watch in person at the NY boutique and when I asked to buy/order the watch I was told that I needed to buy another watch first before I can buy this watch. That's no different from Rolex and AP and I basically wrote Lange off my list of watch brands to buy.
@JA-oi4vj3 жыл бұрын
why shouldn't lange do that though? why should people with no purchase history walk into the boutique and pick and choose a watch that goes over retail when they are tons of flippers around too. I think its the right strategy.
@nishantprakash59282 жыл бұрын
I think they want to cater the original lange customers first and not flippers who want to make a quick buck. Frankly, i respect their honesty. You are still allowed to buy other beautiful watches though

The Odysseus is more of an elegant leisure watch than a sports watch! It is a positive fact that Lange remains loyal to its values and customers. I think the blue dial,wide lugs and metal bracelet allow it to be in the sporty category. I love it! It may be one of those watches people overlook then years later are frantically searching for. I already own one Lange and if I were to own two, I am not sure I would invest in this piece in its current form. I think this is a terrific first effort, but I suspect that in the next few years Lange will introduce a “2.0” version that addresses some of the (few) criticisms directed at this introductory model. For now, I would still consider the Audemars Royal Oak and the Vacheron Overseas to be the somewhat stronger options (not the PP models as they are overpriced and offer little in terms of cutting edge technology in the movements inside the Aquanaut or Nautilus). That’s how I presently see it.

A great review. I love ALS. Probably my favourite brand. Another gorgeous piece although, I wouldn't consider this a sports watch I really like the practicality of the stainless steel case. I definitely agree regarding the date complication and lack of a '0' It's like they forgot about it. If I have a major criticism, it's the case size. 39-40mm would have been perfect for more wrist sizes. The bracelet looks stunning but, I agree again. It doesn't really look right with the case design.

it looks better in person here than on their website. the dial is a much darker blue than i realised. There is something add about the date/ day for me though. maybe i am used to seeing the deliberate offset on the Lange 1 and symmetry now offends. i do not mind the bracelet it looks like it would fit well. The number of people i see ostensibly flicking their Rolexes round their wrist because the bracelet is worn loose is a case in point. Lovely review.
