Earlier this year (2021) my son bought a 1997 Passat TDI with less than 100K miles. The fuel gauge is very accurate and he has gotten over 750 miles on a tankful. There are quite a few unique features about this car, notably the way the door key actuates not only the power door locks, but also the windows. He is enjoying it very much.

Oh hey! Funny seeing you here. I really have been enjoying the car. It has its issues, but it's been very anyway @VWestlife Thank you for sharing your car with us! I saw this video when you first posted it, but didn't know anything about these cars at the time. Now I own one! They are going up in value and are very hard to find. A few weeks ago I was even followed to a restaurant by someone that offered to buy it from me.

Low miles for a B4 these days. I always liked the way the B4s drive. Finding one in nice shape is getting tough. Redoing the seals on the IP isn't too hard to do. You can use VCDS to re-calibrate the pump after having it apart.
@null28468 жыл бұрын
Huge fuel tank. I like that the temp and (especially) how the gas gauge is labeled, gives you an idea of how long you'll be waiting at the pump to fill up/how many gallons you'll need to a full tank.

It's funny how much has changed with the Passat. I have a 2007 Passat and it is fab. It looks great (better than the new one in my opinion), so much space, leather heated seats, wood, touch screen and it's very comfy snd sporty, (it's a 1.9 tdi) and it was only 3,500 euro

Mine was white with 300K on the ODO very solid car but it was no match to the head-on collision that took it from me. The insurance gave $8500.00 pay off, at first I thought it was a mistake because $8500.00 for a car with 300K miles no way. but according to the adjuster these cars are made for the long haul. one of the few former cars I actually miss.

I love your channel. I have learned much about my own 97 passat tdi through your experience. I love mine but it rides really soft so I wonder if my struts or shocks are shot. Engine is marvelous and I get about 40 to 42 mpg. I can lug in fifth gear at 40 MPH so much torque, and once up to speed, engine has so much power and pull in all gears but 4th and even 5th are amazing. I would like to know how you feel about selling your B4 now that it is long gone. God bless you sir.

In Ireland, over half of the cars on the road are diesels, because petrol (gas in the US) is in most cases over 10 cents more per litre than diesel. At the moment, diesel and petrol is very expensive in Ireland, costing over €1.60 ($1.81) a litre for diesel or $6.85 per US gallon and over €1.70 ($1.92) a litre for petrol or $7.27 per US gallon. This is probably the highest price of fuel in Ireland in decades. So you can see why few people have petrol (gas) cars in Ireland.

To be honest, I rarely seen this generation of the Passat driven today in Somerset County (I live in Hillsborough, NJ). I would be interested, but I'm letting someone else get it. That is really in good condition and selling for $2500 is a steal. Argh, so tempting...but I can't drive manual.

Cool you have resources , power, great economy, but are you 100% sure that are you free to do anything that you like to do, without somebody to spy you, or at least to create something like 200 Mile per gallon car without to be assassinated by the oil companies. Dude if I write right now word "Terrorism" or "9/11"i'm pretty sure that the America will start to spy me, and watch everything i do. No mater i have freedoms. Why do you want to sell it?
@wilkes858 жыл бұрын
Ah man I never though you'd sell it.... but hey, like you said in the video, might as well let someone else enjoy it if it'll just sit at your house eh? You've kept it meticulously maintained too, someone's getting a fantastic car. Are you planning on getting another secondary car, or are you just going to stick with the Subaru? You drive a standard so smoothly too, to a passenger it would feel like an automatic. I've known a lot of people who've had a standard for years and they still drive very herky-jerky lol. I can drive a standard (and I learned on an old truck with an almost completely worn out clutch haha), but I still prefer an automatic; there's some driving conditions where a standard would be a nightmare, such as steep hills.
@vwestlife8 жыл бұрын
I will probably be getting another second car at some point, maybe next spring. I'd like to get a hatchback, for the times I need to carry something too big to fit in my Subaru's trunk, and preferably a 2-door, since all the cars I've owned have been 4-doors.

Personally, I'd rather buy one of the models that "cheat" at emissions since they don't even do inspections where I live, and there's nothing quite as satisfying as giving the proverbial middle finger to the EPA and getting away with it.
