That is most impressive. I would never have believed that it could be done on a lathe, but seeing is believing. This video alone convinced me to subscribe. Thank you very much! KOKO!

The main idea of establishing the feed ratio between the chuck and the compound was skipped. Very disappointing . The rest is obvious.

Exactamente. Tiene cojones la cosa... El artista no muestra cómo tiene relacionado el giro del plato y el avance del carro transversal

It's pretty simple I believe, the compound is being driven by some type of motor, it has to be for the consistency in the cross feed and,the piece is being turned in back gears so unless you have the knowledge of his particular speeds and feeds that data to you is useless, in my mind the most important thing here is, this guy is showing you a scroll plate can be made by you.

I believe the most important take away of making this part is, not moving the apron backwards to prepare for another round of milling, he painstakingly, mind numbingly slowly reverse turns the compound back to the start...

very useful if you want to keep busy lol a mild steel unground scroll aint gonna last or hold any good tolerance but good for you now on to the beveled teeth on the back to engage it
@gorak900018 күн бұрын
27:20 the thread pitch of the scroll is NOT EVEN CLOSE to the thread pitch on the jaws - the whole video is just clickbait
@cornnatron303018 күн бұрын
@gorak9000 dont worry next episode he will make the beveled gear on the back and the episode after that he will fix that problem of the pitch with some instant noodles and superglue lol Just let him cook.

Great job, but what is the relation between the chuck and compound?? I never saw a chuck turning so slow.

It would have been better if you had told us the reason for the lathe machine having such a low speed and also the speed ratio of the cross-slide compound. If you didn't do this, what benefit would we get?

compond slide gear ratio? endmil cutter will cut like thread tool bit ?endmill will make work as thread chaser?
@williamkober66378 күн бұрын
sharpen high speed with same pitch as the lathe scroll? cut like normal with cross slide.

This Scroll may work for a short while then become utterly unusable, the scroll plates are generally made of high grades of cast iron for good reason any machinist can tell you why they are made of cast iron, this steel scroll will need lubrication and that's a big NO NO, for reasons that should be obvious, stripping down and cleaning your chucks regularly helps to maintain the accuracy and the useful life if oil is used it must be the lightest and applied sparingly not soaked in it. and that's only to prevent corrosion, The practice of blowing a machine down with compressed air has seen many chucks and machines go to early retirement, besides being a stupidly dangerous practice, try using a proper shop vacuum designed for the job instead of blowing the crap in to the chuck.

for all curious... when you have extremely high ratios on a leadscrew... you drive through the lead screw, not the main spindle. yes, very disappointing that they choose to skip the most critical aspect of the whole job, but then, you dont want to give away trade secrets, do you? its a cutthroat market in the restoration business...
