I'm not sure which is more impressive - the build, or the video production! I wish I was as skilled in either of them!

Perhaps, like a shaper, a clapper mount for the cutting tool would prevent dragging the bit on the back stroke, particularly on steel stock. Did the barrel warp after welding on the mount for the tool post. Nice workmanship!

A clapper would really make sense for some larger work.

You are indeed an "EXTREMEST"! Living up to your name. I have absolutely zero lathe/milling knowledge but I loved this sort of thing while I was in high school. Unfortunately Africa being what it is, realising your dream is for the few privileged ones. Anyways, if you should by any chance stray into Johannesburg please let me know. I will happily pay for your hotel bills as long as I can, show you around and ask you about those crazy skills you have and perhaps persuade you to consider me for your "spanner boy" even if I am now 56. Thank you for everything you do and share.

With a bit more work to the lathe by adding a ClickSprings style indexer mechanism, you could cut splines.

Wow! What a show! I'm a machinist myself and I think there's some room for accuracy improvement. Probably caused by the equipment you own. But, sir, hats of for your video! Damn this is swift, smooth and looks so easy! I hope the young folks get motivated and start machining too. I'm curious to know how much time it cost to make this video. Thank you and all the best, Job

Probably months considering all the planned out camera angles. Too, they only show a fraction of what footage was actually shot.

@@leaningr Self explanatory if you are familiar with machining and welding operations. I had to watch to the end to understand what was being slotted and how the components would accomplish the task.

To be sure. But for custom sized slots, perhaps internal slots which don't go end to end, this is a well thought out tool. I started on shapers and slotters and could have used one of these as well.😊
