Tune in to an insightful conversation with Vincson Green, BA ‘83 (journalism, communications), who spent twenty-five years as an impactful store director with Target before retiring to focus on building a non-profit organization. Vincson will share his key strategies for leading diverse, high-performing teams, which include reflecting the community, talent management, and building diversity within leadership. He will also discuss overcoming challenges, such as those faced while opening the downtown Portland, Oregon Target location, and the importance of acknowledging and supporting retail workers.
As a staff trainer, Vincson combined classroom instruction with hands-on experience to build up team leaders, while using storytelling to make training impactful. Vincson will highlight the factors that contributed to his success in mentoring and promoting team members, emphasizing on one-on-one sharing, and creating development roadmaps.
In his post-retirement years, Vincson continues to apply his leadership skills in non-profit work and project management, focusing on building operations and fundraising from the ground up. In addition, Vincson is a newly appointed board member for the UO Black Alumni Network.
