Thanks for the recommendation! We’re working with what we’ve got for now. This bigger issue seems to be finding the grouse…and keeping our gear from breaking!

Terrific video! Here's my tip for grouse behavior. In the early morning hours (first light - like 10 am AK December time) grouse will be looking for pebbles and sand to swallow into their gizzards (so they can digest the day's food intake). Most common place for exposed pebbles and sand is rural gravel roads. Worst case you get a nice morning drive out of it. Bring a thermos of coffee and enjoy your hunt.

Best Laid Plans, if something can go wrong it will at the worst possible time. You were lucky that the snow shoe let you down before you were miles into your hiking. When it comes to success with grouse or any other wildlife they tend to hide away laughing at us. My own shooting trips have had a few disasters, like no firing pin in the rifle and taking the wrong calibre ammunition, you try to double check but still make mistakes. It only takes a few easy to make mistake to make the whole day a disaster. I had a deer in the cross hairs pulled the trigger only to get a click, i had not refitted the firing pin when cleaning the rifle!@@semi-wild-alaska
