I love My Hero Academia for many reasons but today I want to focus on the art. Specifically the character designs and how Hero Aca is a great example of how to do them right.

What about Momo Yaoyorozu? She's got some sharp points and triangle eyes and a red costume but is actually pretty sweet.

Yet, she's powerful and takes the role of a leader. Also, her hair is very long and spacious, and her cape is wavey and goes in all directions, which brings the feeling of "she's someone big", and you're right, since she's rich.

Honestly most of the time when I just started watching anime I tended to ignore animes with very basic and common character designs because theres so well just boring to look at but then I'd bring my self to watch them and they would be jems so I got to agree with this mha design are very good at grabbing your eye and drawing you in along with being very recognizable it's easy to recognize even back ground characters

Mineta's design isn't ironic, it just requires a more modern approach to the color wheel. Purple, overall, represents something "foreign" because it is very rare in Nature. Red, yellow, green, cyan and blue are all found in very abundant natural elements, like blood, sand, vegetation, the sky and the sea. Purple is not. You were kinda right in the start, for hundreds of years, purple *used to* represent royalty because only they could afford such a rare color. Nowadays, such association has vanished, since monarchy has died and purple dyes can now be synthetized. Today purple's foreigness has made it the color of pimps, dildos and feelings of darkness, mourning and unnease. And what does Mineta's purple represent? First of all, grapes, obviously, but secondly, corruption and deviousness. In fact, I'd be wouldn't be surprised if Horikoshi had designed Mineta with the "Grapist" pun in mind, the themes of balls, grapes and perversion are all way more coherent than they should be. I think about Mineta a lot.

@@leg912 First of all, yes, as the classic RYB model is outdated and wrong, unlike the modern RGB model. Second, it's obvious I meant a modern interpretation of color meanings in everyday life and art. That's why I wrote it. Hopefully you read.

Loved your analysis. Only one thing that's been bothering me. I know it's not intentional, and I know this is a video on the anime, but crediting the character designs to the anime producers seems unfair to horikoshi. (like saying THEY did a great job)... I know I am nit picking... But! The man is an artist. Whether it is his drawing, story telling and amazing direction of each panel, be it the emotional or fighting scenes, he is just great. And his art is of course much more detailed than the limited budget that the anime allows. So yeah. Many, no, most people don't read the manga, but he should 100% get all the credit for at least the character designs. And the anime team should be praised for following his designs so faithfully, since some anime just go free style which is sad. Thats all, great video. Gonna binge watch the rest of your content on the anime since bnha is on break this week. Have a nice day (2 year old video)

Some of the bits of character design are a little too blunt. Not the costume designs, those should definitely be blunt and over the top for in universe reasons. Why he got a lightning bolt in his hair? The staticy, messy, yellow hair is enough to get the idea across. Side note I love how they wear the school uniforms differently. Bakugo's is messy and dekus is too big like he was given the wrong size and was just too shy to speak up about it, It's great.
