I mainly just think Angel didn't have enough character development. In fact, most of the characters (besides Charlie). Plus, I think I loved the writing in the Pilot writing better than the actual show. I loved Pilot Angel better than the show Angel. Though, I love the acting of the Voice Actors (Mostly helps that the Voice Actors are experienced). I wish the episodes were longer or the meeting with Adam happened in the last episode, giving enough time for each character to grow and develop. This is just my opinion

Honestly I’d say animals aren’t a good metaphor for racism in any story. Like especially in beast stars where the oppressed group the carnivores are a litteral threat to herbivores while in real life racism is invalid because we are all inherently just humans. The conditions in which we are born does not make us a threat.

(This is mostly on the themes predation in Beastars and the bit that was cut from the video) I think the way we're taught media analysis in school predisposes us to try and read everything as a metaphor or analogy for some specific real-world thing, especially if it's fantastical. But that isn't really how people typically make art, right? Not unless they set out to create propaganda. A work of art comes together from bits and pieces over time, with a different impetus for each piece. Legoshi and Haru's predator-prey love relation with their fears and hang-ups and neuroses around it can be _applicable_ to real-world phenomena like sexual assault without being a metaphor for them. We can allow it to simply literally be what it is, in the context of its story. We can learn from the pieces that make sense compared to our own world (and think about why the ones that don't make sense in comparison, don't), while the bits that aren't applicable simply don't apply. They're not a flaw or a muddling of an unambiguous "message" on the real-world phenomenon we've decided to compare them to. Legoshi feels no impulse to sexually assault Haru, he feels an instinct to eat her. Those are kindasorta similar in some ways, and that can be useful to think about. But what he's experiencing ultimately has no direct real-world analogue, and that's fine.

Hazbins problem is pretty much always blitzing through everything but I do feel Angel did a great if idealized version of dealing with sexual trauma. Having been "sent to the neighbor" for terrible things as a kid, and being used and R***d as an adult too I do at least feel very represented by Angel. I wish it was that easy to just, give your abusers the finger but it was at least, satisfying to watch someone do it. Just seeing them in public leaves me shaking and useless, were it only that easy.

My biggest gripe with beastars personally was the lack of research in specific areas. If any animal is evolved enough to be able to speak, build, communicate and more on a complex level, instinct wouldn't really be a problem anymore. The only reason instinct rules the minds of other animals is simply because their lack of intelligence/ brain matter which keeps them from holding/ attaining long periods of information. Therefore teaching them anything beyond what a 3 year old human knows is impossible. Instinct exists so they don't end up killing themselves due to this lack of information gathering. So in an intelligent species, it is not needed and really wouldn't be as prevalent as beastars makes it out to be. It's also weird how all carnivores can easily eat plants but herbivores can't eat meat when in nature it's actually the opposite. Certain animals literally have specific types of stomaches just to be able to digest and get nutrients from many plants, carnivores by nature don't have this ability. In fact "opportunistic carnivore" is a term used for a lot of animals like deer and horses that will resort to eating meat when no plants are available and meat is easier to gain nutrients from than plants (depending on the plant). If beastars just changed the premise to "they want to" rather than they need to, it would've been more realistic and frankly scary too as a society without much instinct but people still eat meat is terrifying.

There were hundreds of fan projects made based just on the pilot, and many of them are better than the real show. You showed examples of subtle writing in the pilot that demonstrated an understanding of the characters as people, not just plot devices, the actual show only understands them on a surface level, if you look for the subtleties you realize there is no subtleties because what you see is all there is. A lack of subtleties shows that the writers don't know who the character are, so they don't know what they're doing. Hazbin Hotel Characters don't do anything that isn't immediately relevant to the plot, so it doesn't feel like they have actual lives outside of what we see. There's nothing that alludes to a life off camera: hobbies, casual interests, inside jokes with each other, opinions, pet peeves, nor daily problems -unless it's relevant to their immediate circumstances. They have all these big struggles, but without real human characteristics they don't feel alive. This is vital to a character driven show, and especially to a victim as sexual abuse because it is an incredibly personal issue. That's why only half of sexual assault survivors feel seen by him; Angel Dust isn't recognised as a character, so there's nothing to relate to outside of sexual abuse. The pilot didn't have this issue, so it's perfectly reasonable to hold the show to the same expectation. As an example of when characters is fully recognised, I took the first scene to come to mind: In Star Wars Episode 4, After hearing the plans are to shoot a two meters hole, an random pilot says, "That's impossible! Even for a computer." Luke confidently responds, "It's not impossible; I used to bulls-eye Womp Rats in my T16 back home, they're not much bigger than two meters." We could still deduce from this one line, that despite the obvious grim odds, Luke has confidence in the plan, he has experience as a shooter, he's sees the random pilot as an equal, and this plan isn't far-fetched to him. But furthermore, this alludes to a life off camera, it was just a part of his childhood that plays into what he's currently doing. This is the most random scene I could think of, because this is the bare minimum of writing a character.

In my personal opinion, throughout the first season i always skipped the songs because of how much i hated it. I feel like Vaggie should have been an alto or any lower tones due to how similar she sounds with charlie! the only songs i liked was Stayed gone and Ready for This (somewhat)... The syllables were too much which leads to words sounding too fast and rushed to the end of the sentence. Plus there are many moments where they are saying the same things but in different fonts! But, I am a picky person with music.
