This is the story of the birth of modern chess - when the possibilities of chess as an art, a science and a sport all converged.
The point of convergence was a young boy from Louisiana named Paul Morphy. At a time when America was seen as a backwoods nation with little cultural history and even less intellectual impetus, at a time when chess was considered the exclusive property of a few European countries, at a time when the game was played successfully by a handful of men wizened by years, Paul Morphy, in the brief span of 19 months and with seemingly little effort, defeated conclusively every player he met.
While today few non chess players even know his name, he was one of the most famous celebrities of his time and within the hallowed halls of the chess playing community he is considered by some as the greatest chess player of all time.
But this diminutive, unassuming boy rose to fame almost out of nowhere and once he secured his place in history, he retired back into that hazy unknown, shunning the public eye, never again to play serious chess. Not only was he one of great practitioners of the game, but also one of it's greatest enigmas. He's been given the sobriquet, The Pride and Sorrow of Chess.

@Donald Trump you high bro?? Just what trap are you talking about? And that fool word? With all the trades, it left black rook on a better square. Takes the d4 pawn and start pushing his pawn. You can even massacre the White's whole pawns there lmao. That being said, with black three connected pawns vs a doubled pawns and 4 connected pawns vs 3 connected pawns with black rook more active with its open file and those white pawns unguarded and all, you thought that's a trap?

'This position has never been reached again' makes me think that the position is so out of modern theory that no one played it again. While 'this is completely new game' makes me think that the player had most probably researched the theory of that position in detail. I don't know why I think that.

They're two totally different things! "The position has never been reached again" means it was the last time it was played. It's significant for *historical* games because it's been that much time since the position was seen in a recorded game (over 160 years, in this case). It's possible the position was reached in games before that, in which case 'we have a completely new game' wouldn't make sense. "We have a completely new game" means it was the first recorded time it was played. It's significant for *modern* games because it's the first time in recorded history it's been seen, when recorded history goes back hundreds of years - a new game being played this year means it's the first time, over hundreds of years, that it was played.

12:32 after Qh6 by black, Rh8+ wins the queen regardless. Agadmator missing this and instead goes for the hanging rook makes me proud of myself for finding it instantly
@CommissionerSleer
@CommissionerSleer 3 жыл бұрын
Rh8+ was what I saw too but I think picking up the free R is better than swapping R for Q. White can't mate soon with just Q vs R and black can maybe cause problems with those centre pawns. I expect QR vs Q is more difficult for black with a constant threat of mate and forced Q exchange.
@saresa2566
@saresa2566 3 жыл бұрын
CommissionerSleer i dont see any mates after Qxg4, black can just force queen trades, and it would have been a whole rook advatnage endgame. Not sure if RK vs K is better than KQ vs KR end game.
@CommissionerSleer
@CommissionerSleer 3 жыл бұрын
@@saresa2566 My take on it is that there definitely isn't a mate threat after Rh8+ but there's a constant mate threat if black's Q ever stops defending. WHITE can force the Q trade and would be happy to because an R vs 0 ending is a trivial win for white: much easier than Q vs R. The R can bully the Q and possibly hope to escort a pawn. No chance of that in R vs 0. I think Antonio (and presumably his engine) are right that QxR is the best continuation.

@@bahaaaddintaleb401 never reached again = this was the last time this game was played, people could have played this position before (meaning it does not imply that it is a new game) never reached before = no one on record has played this before, but it is possible that people have reached this position later not sure what agad is trying to say either. but if he wants to say the position is unique, then neither of those statements work. if he wants to say the position is new then he should say it was never reached before.

12:25 Morphy could have also won the queen with RookH8 check. If you capture the rook, the queen is undefended. If you don't, you capture the queen, and your own queen is defended

Hey!! Last move black blocks with Qh6 but white doesn't take the rook but instead gives check with Rh8 and picks up the Queen ! 😁 Ok they all lead to victory but better pick a queen up along the way if you can

For everybody wondering why Agadmator did not cover Rh8+ at the end, it's probably because Qxg4 is simply a better move. Black will have to trade queens immediately to avoid checkmate, and Rook vs. pawns is a much better endgame than Queen vs. Rook.

I hope the next big saga will be Alekhine because he's the one who popularized modern chess strategy, I want his great knowledge in modern chess strategy in rule independence,unlimited possibilities against Capablanca's classical chess where he mainly based on principle and rules, and his limited possibilities.

12:32, once the black queen blocks, you can go Rook H8 with check, if King takes, white Queen takes Queen, and if he moves to G7, then White Rook takes Queen 💀
