Grandmaster Flash should release videos on everything, with his voice and that bass tone and the flashing logo. I don’t care what he talks about. He could read his grocery list. I would be mesmerized regardless

Flash you had a massive influence on me back in the days. Growing up in East Berlin we secretly enjoyed music we weren’t allowed to. Bizarrely enough our government at the time decided to show the movie Beat Street in cinemas aimed at teenagers like me. The intention was to show how bad America is and the social difference between rich and poor. The effect of watching it was that we started our own movement including the music. Wall. Long story short flash I am grateful for this experience and have the greatest respect for you and what you have done of course - I still listen to your music to, to this day. 🙏

I love Herc in my bones. Thank you Flash for this “letter” It is beautiful. It is truth. It is love. It made me cry. I know the relationship has never been what you wanted it to be. I wish nothing but love for you and Herc and that the two of you can come together in harmony and as true pioneers. Love and peace Flash and Herc 🤍

Still here in 2020 watching one legend pay bondage to another.. Classic shit man.. I make beats and engineer, but since The Get Down premiered on Netflix I've have been looking into learning to dj. I had my eye on a Roland DJ controller to start with, but I think I wanna go ahead and learn on vinyl first, then transition to controllers later. I'm ready, and it's thanks to Grandmaster Flash, who put me up on Cool Herc and Grandwizard Theodore.. Much love, honor and respect due to these men…

What I respect about Flash the most is that Herc has been shitting on him for years. He has a major disdain for Flash for some reason yet Flash has always been humble and gracious and gives Herc the utmost respect no matter what he says about him

Have to agree bxdale83, I first saw Flash in 2002 ( got to shake / slap / high five his right hand, whatever you want to call it ) This is back before Laptops & Serato. Just him, 8 crates of vinyl & his pancake handler. That's his side kick who hand's him the wax. I still have the concert ticket stub as well. Didn't know they weren't on talking terms though ! Yeah, It seems that Flash is the bigger man, we'll have to see if Kool Herc replies......Peace to all B Boys & B Girls worldwide....& Happy Birthday HIP HOP ! It don't stop................

Not "for some reason." He is obviously jealous that Flash has gotten all the attention and is actually getting PAID. The Get Down was fantastic. Hurc has shitted on it, but of curse, he wished HE was involved in the making of it and getting paid instead of Flash.

balle733 I don't see why I need to shut up, I'm just stating what I have noticed. And Herc is not that well liked either. He drew the ire of some of his fellow Hip Hop Pioneers when he dissed The Get Down in an interview and for not showing up the Hip Hop Boulevard ceremony cause he wanted to get paid (alledgedly) I agree about Flash trying to take credit for certain things (Grandwizard Theodore and scratching) but Herc has shown bitterness towards Flash that is almost unwarranted

People were very protective of their records. No body oils allowed in the grooves because it would affect the quality of the sound. They held records in their hands like living organisms. No scratches on the record or else the needle would jump back and loop "like a broken record". Depending on the equipment, someone may have been protective of that as well.

Facts stated by Grandmaster Flash. Respect to Kool Herc for what he planted and it was to play the get down part. Flash added to this by inventing to seemlessly extend the get down part as long as a dj wanted to on beat. I myself witnessed Herc in the streets and also witnessed Flash in the streets back in 1977 in the Boogie down Bronx where I grew up in. Peace & Love to both of these legendary DJays.

Mad love Dj Louielo! And I always thought you were from Brooklyn or Queens. What part of the Boogie Down are you from? I saw plenty of Flash as a kid, but never got to see Herc, always heard of him, seen the herculoids, but too young for Herc himself. I always assumed he was similar to flash. Was he? Both legends, but was one clearly better than the other? Or about the same? Old cats used to talk about Herc like he was 7 feet tall with 6 arms.

@@pvj2234 I'm from the Boogie Down Bronx born and raised just 4 blocks away from Yankee Stadium. And yes Kool Herc is over 6 feet tall. Herc & Flash have different styles of deejaying. Flash was more the the scratching and cutting up to shreds type of deejay while Herc just blended the beat also known as the "get down" part of the song longer to party on to the extended beat part. Herc also had a system that was incredibly powerful that can only be felt in night clubs. This would also bring huge crowds to the street jams back in the 70's.

wonderful class act.. In the mid seventies I started dj'ing, 75 to be exact.. Mixing fascinated me, so holding songs on beat I mastered, but extending breaks (looping), was paramount.. Flash is a pioneer, a student, an innovator, and one who inspires..I would travel from Long Island to my cousins in the Bronx to hear you at Mitchell gym, Mott Haven projects.. You also inspired me to dig for breaks and beats, and unheard of.. Thanks for paving the way.. Just like kool Herc and the Herculoids, Disco king Mario, Africa Bambaataa and the Zulu nation and you had the Funky Four Plus One More & Shyrock. Everyone and everything else came as branches off of those trees. St. Ann's park, Echo park, Bronx River Park... Club 371, The black door, Disco Fever, The Dixie club, T-Connection, The Sparkle, and the infamous Hebalo... Sure we countless other joints but these are what started our culture moving forward. Studio 54, the starship nor Latin quarters had anything to do with the inception of Hip-hop in the Boogie Down Bronx. 1973 forward until today 2020...

Greetings Grand Master, what's happening, I'm a long time fan of you and the Furious Five to include a host of old school rappers... I'm originally from Staten Island, N.Y. 45 yrs young. That's right still young... I listen to your jams as I'm driving all over the U.S. (truck driving)... just the other day my cousin & I reflected back on the old school hip hop, 80s ,90s, even early 2000's but those jams made history, the golden era (80s) Thank you & Furious Five for your talent/ music!

So hype...the droning ambient hum behind Flash's ambiguous speeches is perfect, like a mastermind revealing his secret origins. "The third component" AKA Bam, plays the part of a fallen god of the big three. What will be the conclusion to this story?

GM Flash, as a young kid from the West Bronx, I and my friends watched, studied and copied your every move. Herc was the first person I ever heard played the get down but GM Flash, Theodore and others perfected the mix, from which I learned.
