In this video, we look at cardiac output. First I discuss what is meant by heart rate and by stroke volume. We then look at how to calculate cardiac output including by using an ECG trace. Finally, I show you how to rearrange the equation for cardiac output.

hello sir your videos are extremely helpful, and is the sole reason that I am doing well in the three sciences (GCSE) I love your textbooks and your videos, and i recently achieved a 9 on my physics end-of-topic test (atomic structure and radioactivity) thanks to your videos My School follows the OCR 21st Century Science specification, and although your videos have worked amazingly so far, is watching your videos OK for OCR GCSE papers. there's only around 70 days left until the start of my GCSE's, so I'd appreciate any advice. hello shaun, i was wondering how should i revise to get 7s for gcse combined science as you know the gcse 2023 exams are coming and i was wondering what i should be doing to achieve those top grades? i have recently been switched from foundation to higher so how would you recommend me to learn the higher content and go through the foundation content?

Hi. I would suggest aiming for the best grade you can in Higher, rather than any specific grade. In my experience, students who do that often get better grades than they hope for. Because it's February, you have plenty of time, if you use it well. Since you're on my channel, I think you should watch all my videos (not the triple ones) at least once and make notes from them (but don't just copy out the text, try to summarise the main points). If you find a video hard, watch it again and try to address the problem. From this you will then realise which topics (or playlists) you struggle with. You then need to focus on them to sort them out. Finally, do every past paper you can find (on aqa.org.uk). But I would just say, getting a very good grade is easier than many student think. A lot of students just don't revise to any meaningful extent and of those that do, many leave it to the last minute. So by starting early, you give yourself an advantage.

Hi sir, I am doing the AQA spec and was wondering if I need to know about the ECG traces? I'm confused as your previous video said it was only for OCR/Edexcel but the spec says we need to be able to "interpret data for a variety of graphs, eg explain electrocardiogram traces" what would you suggest? Also thanks for the videos, they are an enormous help!

Hi and thank you for the comment. I'm glad that you are finding my videos helpful. In the AQA spec, the section on mass transport does not mention electrocardiograms (whereas they are specifically mentioned in the OCR and Edexcel specs). However, you are right in that electrocardiograms does appear in the AQA spec as part of the Mathematical Requirements and Exemplifications as an example of interpreting data from a graph. I suspect that if that came up in an exam, they would give you information on ECG traces so that students could use that information to explain what the ECG shows. So while ECGs may not be in the AQA mass transport topic, you may want to watch the video just to become familiar with ECGs incase they do come up as an example. I hope that helps.
