Please read!! A LEVELS & GCSES CANCELLED?! let’s have a chat
honestly God knows what the result of all this is going to be! Sorry this video is so choppy and incoherent but if KZbin becomes my full time job next year then I promise I’ll get some practice in ;)
but seriously, if you’ve got your physical and mental health on track then that’s something to celebrate and be thankful for. So in true Brit spirit keep calm and carry on until we get the green light from Bojo to burn our revision notes.
If exams are cancelled and there’s any year 12s or year 10s watching I’ll be selling or giving away my gcse and a level notes and revision guides so follow my insta megxmahoney for updates!
Enjoy possibly your last day ever of education tomorrow and I hope you get some sleep tonight x
Also fully aware this video comes across in a kIm ThErEs PeOpLe ThAt ArE dYiNg way, so there are much bigger things at hand and more pressing issues to worry about than whether I have to sit a 3hr eng lit paper
What the news is saying:
Answers promised after school shutdown confusion www.bbc.co.uk/...
www.google.co....
much more informative videos about it than my utter ramble: • Exam are cancelled, so...
• WOW. GCSE & ALEVEL Exa...

Joint general secretary of the National Education Union Kevin Courtney said: ‘We welcome the clarity that SATs, GCSE, AS- and A-Level exams are to be cancelled. ‘This offers some degree of reassurance to teachers, their students and parents. ‘We note that, at this time of emergency, the Government has decided that teacher assessment is indeed a good method of giving reliable information about young people’s progress and achievements. ‘We will return to that when this crisis is over.’ - metro.co.uk/2020/03/19/coronavirus-uk-will-university-places-offered-level-students-despite-exams-canceled-12425876/

Megan Mahoney I beg to differ. Many teachers can be bias, and some may give aspirational final grades and some may dislike students or just be stingy and give them lower grades that another teacher would. There’s uncertainty to the final grade as it relies on the relationship with you and the teacher. I’d much rather do the exam in September or even next year.

They should never had told that exams were cancelled until they had a detailed plan of what was going to happen and had discussed it with Colleges an university’s . As the governments saying they’ve been cancelled yet my college are still assigning us work and homework to do. By the way, I’m in Yr13 - so it’s unclear if we should be revising or not- it’s just a lot of unnecessary stress . Guess we have to wait till tomorrow 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is anyone else feeling like they don't know what to do with themselves now after GCSEs are cancelled? I mean I was working incredibly hard especially from September to reach a goal of getting the highest possible grades and really put everything else on hold just to get 9s to the point where not doing any schoolwork or revision over the weekend felt unnatural. Doing GSCEs has been ingrained in us since year 8; well now that there isn't anything to imminently work towards, what do we do?

It would be so unfair if they went off predicted grades and teachers opinion I had some teachers that didn’t like me too much (not quite sure why) so i would have been effected negatively. My predicted grades were BBB and I got A*A*A I don’t believe in predicted grades or teachers opinion, as not all teachers are great. Don’t get me wrong I’ve had great teachers in the past that supported me all the way through a levels but teachers are still people and they can make mistakes. I’m in first year uni now I’m so sorry you guys might be affected so badly by this. If I received my predicted grades I would have never made it into my first choice uni. I hope they find a better solutions for you guys and you don’t miss out on what you deserved 💕

Ah what unis did you apply for? ‘The Universities UK suggested universities may honour the offers already made on the basis of predicted grades’ - The BBC earlier today. So judging by that if they’ve given you an offer that’s promising they want you so will give you a place? But we won’t know anything til tomorrow. Thank you for making this, it’s nice to understand how everyone around the country is feeling-obviously I know it effects everyone but you don’t really get to see outside of our school bubbles! I’m in y13 and do English lit, geography and history too- I love your videos, I feel like we’re very similar people tbh haha. I’m devastated about exams, I didn’t do enough in y12 but I’ve started to knuckle down so much this year and I feel like I had the potential to do so much better than my predicted grades. At GCSE my predicted grades were all so far off what I actually got- for example, geography was a 5 and I got an 8! So I just feel like this is such a bad form of judgement and I don’t see how they will register what we all “deserve” to get. I have been improving so much the past couple of months going from Cs to As across the board but I don’t think I’ll get that with my predicted. I understand the seriousness of the situation but I think we all just feel disappointed, leaving sixth form and not having a leavers party or assembly was so sad too. Sorry this is a hefty comment! Coronavirus and summer 2020 exams A message from AQA’s Chief Executive, Mark Bedlow, on how we'll be awarding grades this summer. Following the decision to close schools and not go ahead with this summer’s exams, the government has announced more details of how grades will be awarded this summer. I know how keen you are to have some clarity, so I wanted to share this information with you right away. Here are the main points: Regulators will develop and set out a process that will provide a calculated grade to each student which reflects their performance as fairly as possible, and will work with us and the other exam boards to ensure this is consistently applied for all students. Exam boards will be asking teachers, who know their students well, to submit their judgement about the grade that they believe the student would have received if exams had gone ahead. To produce this, teachers will be asked to take into account a range of evidence and data including performance on mock exams and non-exam assessment. Clear guidance on how to do this fairly and robustly will be provided to schools and colleges soon. Exam boards will then combine this information with other relevant data, including prior attainment, and use this information to produce a calculated grade for each student, which will be a best assessment of the work they have put in. Regulators and exam boards will be discussing with teachers’ representatives before finalising the approach, to ensure that it’s as fair as possible. More information will be provided as soon as possible. The aim is to provide these calculated grades to students before the end of July. In terms of a permanent record, the grades will be indistinguishable from those provided in other years. We’ll also aim to ensure that the distribution of grades follows a similar pattern to that in other years, so that this year’s students aren’t disadvantaged. Students will be able to appeal their grades if they don’t believe the right process has been followed. There will also be an option to sit exams early in the next academic year for any students who wish to. Students may also choose to sit exams next summer. We’ll be working tirelessly to make sure young people who were due to take AQA exams this summer still achieve the qualifications they need to progress to the next stage of their lives - and that all the hard work our students and teachers have already put in is properly rewarded. I hope this new information will answer some of your questions - but I appreciate that you may still have some. I promise we’re working hard with regulators and government to get all the answers, so please bear with us. We’re here to support you through these extraordinary times, and we’ll share new details as soon as we get them. This - like the coronavirus itself - is an unprecedented situation for all of us. But our commitment to helping young people to realise their potential hasn’t changed, and never will. This page was last updated on 20 March.

@@MeganMahoney1 Well.... Firstly I must say I'm shocked, it was only on Wednesday that I was doing my revision and NOW it's like what happened? I think they were quite clever about it, I mean they said they will take all the data into account and come out with a verdict before the end of June. And if students really aren't happy, they can sit the exams when schools re-open (I doubt they'll have em shut in September), and University starts in October. Students having their grades in June will keep the majority happy, but obviously, some people will be less happy. And as a result, some people will want to sit their exams (Which they can do when schools re-open) but the cohort of students taking these exams will be much less than there would normally be, so the marking would get done a lot sooner and students can have their results quicker. In my opinion, I think the overall plan is great, but there will be some narrow-mindedness involved amongst the elite(only an assumption), but for those who have been performing consistently well, whether they have to sit the exams or not, they will still make it to the university of their choice :)

@MeganMahoney1 4 жыл бұрын
that actually sucks, honestly been so wrapped up in the whole a level thing didn’t think about the impact on other years too. Try to see it as a blessing even though it seems awful now. you can choose the subjects over this extended summer to focus on the most to stay on top of things. Make sure to look after your mental health too if you can, you have a year to pull this out the bag so some Netflix days are absolutely fine! Literally feel so gutted for everyone really, if there’s any specific revision videos you want that could help then let me know! Even if it just helps in a little way. Take care pal :)

Does anyone know the situation for IGCSES, I mean if they don’t get canceled we are still screwed because at this time we should be at school getting support from our teachers, I am personally so lost rn, I don’t have the motivation to study, and it just doesn’t feel like a productive time. I am hoping they give us some clarity soon.

I have been asking all over the internet and no one has managed to come up with a clear answer. Some say they will be canceled however some say they won't as this only applies to students in the UK. Does anyone knows what will happen to private candidates? How they will be graded?
@MeganMahoney1
@MeganMahoney1 4 жыл бұрын
Ofqual, the exams watch dog, said this recently: We know that private candidates are anxious to know how these arrangements apply to them. Where centres have accepted entries from private candidates (students who they have not taught themselves, because they have been home-schooled, following distance-learning programmes or studying independently) those students should be included where the Head of Centre is confident that they and their staff have seen sufficient evidence of the student’s achievement to make an objective judgement. We are urgently exploring whether there are alternative options for those students who do not have an existing relationship with a centre and who need results this summer for progression purposes but unfortunately this is unlikely to be possible for all external candidates, some of whom may instead need to take exams in the autumn to get their grades. We appreciate that this is a matter of real concern to private candidates and will provide an update as soon as possible. We have asked organisations that represent higher and further education providers to consider the steps that providers could take when making admissions decisions this summer for any private candidates who do not receive a grade. They have told us that they believe that institutions will consider a range of other evidence and information for these students to allow them to progress wherever possible.

To be honest year 6 students who are supposed to be taking sats this year arent really being affected because the sats arent even important. It basically does nothing.i know it makes your predicted grade for gcses but gcse students do mocks anyways which make their predicted grade. Idk why parents of year 6 students are worrying about their children's sat when you have more important tests(alevels and gcses) cancelled
@MeganMahoney1
@MeganMahoney1 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I'm completely with you there, SATs put young kids under an immense amount of pressure for little really. Using the SATs results to determine GCSE target grades is such a flawed idea. I don't know how 2 level 5 SAT grades equates to every subject having a GCSE 9 target grade but that's the English education system for you. So it is probably for the best they have scrapped them this year. Kids should just enjoy being kids yeah there is bigger things at hand x
