You’re right, it was tricky casting in those spots, the video may not have showed it, but several overhanging branches either around me or out where the fish were, and not much room for a back cast. Hello Jerome! Thank you, but actually, the bird wasn’t hooked on the Rapala, it just had the mono wrapped around its leg 6-7 times but its skin and feathers were all worn away, hopefully it’ll heal. Yes, the fish kept feeding until I didn’t see anymore Trico spinners on the water, that’s when I switched over to the beetle. Gotta be observant 👍🏻. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

Another excellent video. On days when I have difficulty locating my trico on the water, I tie one on a dropper off the bend of a #20 florescent orange ant. I can see the ant and closely judge where my trico is. Heading for the bench to tie some up for tomorrow morning.

Well, to be honest, that first section I fished is very popular and pounded, so that’s why they’re educated and wary there, the slow flat section is mostly passed on by by fishermen because it is much more challenging to fish, so the fish there don’t see as much pressure. In the beginning of your video you experienced something I run into a lot on smooth water. There can be lots of fish rising, but as soon as you catch a fish , the action dies down. But after a while they go back to rising. And eventually a take. But it always seems to be a waiting game. It can be discouraging. On moving water or ripple water it seems to be a little faster. Go figure!

Hi Ed! You said it! That IS usually the case but today, it was backwards. I’m thinking because that first spot was easy access and pounded more often the fish were educated and wary. Whereas the second spot with the smooth calm water, guys often walk by that area because it’s usually a tougher spot to fish and more challenging, that kind of water often intimidates fly fishermen. But if you approach it carefully and slowly and take your time and do a good observation and plan out your attack and get some good drifts and presentations, you can have success. That’s why I took my time with releasing that bird, didn’t want to spook all the fish rising around him. Luckily it all worked out. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thank you Leonard! Well first, I got my 50” Cutthroat Shorty dry fly leader, then 5ft of 4x Flouro, about 18” of 6x Flouro, then 3ft of 8x Flouro. I generally place my fly around 3 ft above the fish I’m targeting, but honestly, every scenario is different depending on flows and cross currents. I also prefer a downstream presentation, but again, it all depends on the situation. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

@@leefritchman9643 Well, now in my closing I did say it was only going to be good for about 4 days, I was guessing, and we haven’t had any significant rain since then, so if you are going there please use a thermometer or your best judgement because I’m sure it’s at a lower flow and higher temp from when I fished it. If anything, it should be ok up until about 10am that’ll get you through the Trico spinner fall at least. Good luck!
