I've been working tirelessly on this video and relaunching the channel. If you enjoy it, please like, comment, and share... I would REALLY appreciate the help. In the works are a couple "Is It Fun?" episodes, Nintendo Power episodes, a Top 20 NES games, and a new series on Retro 80s' and 90s' toys and cartoons.

How did you play it back in the day when there were no walkthroughs online?????????? I am playing it on my SNES mini and would NEVER have figuered out how to finish the game. Like how are you supposed to know exactly where to warp back and forth from the Dark world? And I am a pretty hard core Zelda and Mario player so I know you have to be creative but there are so many times I have to get help from the internet. I am just baffled that some people actually completed this game without help 😧😧😧

I am so glad that this randomly showed up when I got on KZbin today. LTTP has always been one of my favorite games and you summarized why quite beautifully. LTTP and Resident Evil 2 have shared the top spot on my list for as long as RE2 has been out. Newer games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon: Zero Dawn have come close, but have not broken the #1 spot for me. When I first played LTTP, it was at an after school youth group on a tiny navy base in Maine. There were a few TVs in the building and we could sign up in 15 minute increments to play NES or SNES. We'd all gather around and watch each other play. We'd all find things that everyone else would run home and replicate on their own game. It was truly a magical time in my life.

I’ve played the entirety of this game about four times in a twenty year span. And I can say it is both difficult and frustrating every time. Very rewarding experience though. My #1 game of all time. With the limited potential the system had this game surpassed its time by a long shot. Now you buy a game that has all the tech you can ask for and it still won’t come close.

That's something that surprised me when I revisited this game a few years back. My friends played it a lot when I was younger, and I'd watch, but never really got into it. I decided to give it a go as an adult and, while figuring out the puzzles was fun, it was DIFFICULT. Not necessarily difficult to figure out, but just difficult to beat. Lots of hard enemies and punishing bosses that made replaying some of the dungeons overwhelming. I don't think I really ever gathered that it was such a hard game when I was a kid.

The only zelda game I played in my life was the minish cup when I was a teen and I got stuck at some point and never went back to it (it didn't across my mind at the time to resort to the internet) but now after the quarantine since I had time in my hand I decided to play the zelda classics on my phone (Mainly because I played LTTP for few hours I thought the whole series worth it) After a whole year casually playing the game from time to time and getting stuck at some parts, I finally finished it. And as an adult who's zelda games never was part of my nostalgia, it's still a fantastic experience even after 30 years of it's release.

Excellent video, man! I can see why this took so long to put together, and it was well worth the wait! Videos like this are exactly what I look for on KZbin, and where I draw the most inspiration from for my own videos. This is only going to encourage me to step up my own game! I really appreciate all of the work that went into this project. Bravo, man! As for a Link to the Past, I share many of the same memories as you. This was the game that changed the SNES from "I want it" to "I NEED it" back in '92. The fact that this game is the archetype for every subsequent release in the series since, says a lot about how groundbreaking this adventure really is. While not my favorite in the franchise personally, I totally get why it's on the top for many Zelda fans. Thanks a lot for this video. I hope that this is a sign of your return to releasing content consistently now. I discovered your channel right after you went on "hiatus" and was bummed after I watched every one of your videos that I could no longer support my habit. @scratchpoint

Some of it is nostalgia, sure. However, I also think that due to the limitations of the technology available back then, the developers had to come up with more imaginative ways to convey their creations to the players as best as they could. Back then, there was a certain level of imagination on the player's part too, because not everything could be shown to you plain as day in a 3D cut scene the way it can today.

It isn't nostalgia, the games were good and the peak of 2d gaming, N64 to me was a downgrade, several franchises went 3d too soon... I really couldn't stand Mario 64 compared to 3 or SMW. (Unpopular opinion but...Ocarina made the jump to 3d a little better but was still not the same and rough to look at, even back then. game became more boring. fields and dungeons became emptier w/ few enemies. more hand holding started with navi/owl. boss fights became super easy. From about 87-94 Nintendo was KILLING it and the gold standard.) Most of my nostalgia is actually with the NES, but SNES was peak Nintendo for sure.

Even as your channel and your work has evolved, your prior videos remain must-sees and invaluable resources for those who want to not only scratch the nostalgia itch, but go deeper to discover new insights. Thanks for this review. I still have my original copy of the game. Top 5 games for me. This and Super Metroid, Mario RPG, Megaman X, Final Fantasy 3/6, Strert Fighter 2, Super Mario world, Donkey Kong Country and many others. Super Nintendo will always be my favorite system. Thanks for doing these videos, great nostalgia trip back to my yearly teen years.

First time I've played A Link To The Past, I thought I've played a fable. I must save the princess and find the sword to rescue her. It's not an important sword because it's the strongest. It's because this is the sword and I'm the hero. Whatever on games were longer released at this time, I haven't played. I couldn't. I've played it over and over again. And at the end, the Master Sword sleeps. Forever. Because this text : it was the best ending ever for me as a child. Unforgotten. And now I'm growing up and buy, whenever I buy a nitendo console, because of Zelda (and Smash ;) ) as a love that never ends.

Well said, these is my first Zelda game and my favorite there was no holding back here it set expectations of all other zelda games, these is not just a Zelda game, it is THE Zelda Game, and bares the literal tittle of GAME not for the sake of just challenge but a REAL GAME, nohtholding back on powers the enemy's are strong and so is Link and the power ups, there is no tone down but turn up, that is how a game really is, (FUN.) Simply the best Zelda game and the one still holding the High Bar. These is the game that should be remake remake in 3D with dedication and lots of imagination pore in to it, like games use to be done with out holding back.

A part of me mourns the party-based game we never got, but I'm still glad for what we did get- a fine adventure that gave my childhood many grand hours of fun and adventure. Still recall standing on top of Ganon's temple in the Dark World and looking at the horizon, and the climb of Death Mountain. It just felt so overwhelmingly tall and grand, with its seemingly endless tunnels and how they put a "shrunken" version of Hyrule in the background once you reached the top. That was grand... and so was this retrospective.

Glad I'm not the only one who was blown away by the muffled rain at the start as a kid. It just seemed so cool. Zelda has always been great with little details like that. I still find the ocean sound in the first game when you get to the coast really satisfying

How did I miss this video, 3 years ago? Great job, there's sooo much good things to say about Link to the past, I'm sure could've extend it for hours :) This is my favorite game of all time, it is truly a piece of art, you have to take the time to truly immerse yourself into the incredible atmosphere of this beautiful world. Then you'll know :) It brings back so many good memories, kinda overwhelming, and I can tell you that there's very few games that does it to me. Perfect doesn't exist, but a link to the past is perfect to me. From a guy of our generation, thank you, and please do continue, I'll be there watching :) May the tri-force be with you ;)

Aw man I never thought a game review would get me teared up lol. Cheers. I remember I was about 7 or 8 years old when this came out and I was instantly amazed. The dungeon music used to scare me to death. Looking back, it's easy to see why this game was so well received but we had no idea what we really had when we were playing it. We were just living in the moment with it as kids. Fantastic game.
