Samantha Barks is the BEST Eponine. And she's so lucky, because she has played Eponine 3 times. West End, the 25th anniversary concert, and the movie.

You are incredibly mistaken. Lea Salonga *is* the best Eponine. She did the role with so much expression without looking obnoxious. Every phrase is articulated properly and her intonation is just perfect. Samantha is great but saying that she played this role the best is disrespect to Lea.

I 'd like to say that the title for the best Eponine is Lea Salonga, it was the reason that she was cast as Eponine in the 20th anniversary Dream Cast. Claude-Michel the composer for Les Mis even said so himself. Samantha Barks is my second favourite Eponine, on stage she wasn't able to show the softness of death because performing on stage is extremely hard while you have to sing live- but her movie version of a little fall of rain was extremely good. It had the emotions and it tugs on your heartstrings completely.

I love Lea I just don’t think she was quite right for Eponine. I loved her as Fantine and as Kim but Sam’s ability to bring Eponine to life is impeccable. Lea’s my second favorite, but no one can beat Samantha

Just as Eponine attempted to kiss Marius but died just centimeters away from kissing him was remarkable and that alone made me cry along with Marius' reaction to her death. Flawless

cijmoalbal I agree - the technique they used for the singing/music was truly unforgiveable. The few of the cast who really are singer/actors were just lost and those who were not "singers" were absolutely crippled. Usually I cannot help weeping during this show. But at the movie I was near to weeping with disappointment.

Blueboyo1 I really wasn't disappointed to the point of tears. Long before I saw it, I had a talk with myself to not even expect anything close to the stage so I wasn't disappointed. If anything, I was disappointed before it came out to hear that Russell Crowe was going to play Javert. I like the movie for what it is (but for Crowe's singing, I skip over Stars), I just felt they held Samantha back in her two numbers. I'm just forever thankful that they actually used a stage star and kickass singer for Enjolras LOL.

while I agree that Sam was held back in the movie, and that this version of the song is more beautiful, I thought the movie version was more believable. In this version, Eponine is singing really powerfully one second, and is dead the next- in the movie she seems weaker, making it more believable that she is dying.

while i agree that the movie was a disappointment, you really can't compare how one actor sings and acts on a stage versus in a movie. in the movie, the camera is right up close to her face. she can't act as big as she would on a stage, because the audience is closer. as for the singing, the director was trying to make it more believable. going for the pretty version of the songs seems selfish, as the point of the movie is to focus on the acting rather than the music, and the stage focuses more on the musical numbers.

The best Little Fall of Rain I have ever seen. Samantha Barks is lovely, but it is the actor playing Marius that makes this so special. His reactions and pain through this show how much their friendship meant to him and when she says "I'll sleep in your embrace, at last" He looks as though he is shocked to discover she loves him like that,. Such good acting. Most Marius just sit there... and you kind of hate the character for that... not this guy

LOVE this song. I've seen Les Miz eight times on Broadway, and it is the only song that I cry during EVERY TIME I see it. The emotions, the love, the angst is so perfect. I think everyone can relate to Eponine's unrequited love for Marius, and this is the culmination. To give her life for the love of her life...heartwrenching. The way that Victor Hugo wrote her death in Les Miz is also a tear-jerker. This song really captures that spirit.

I think the west end is so much better than the anniversary concerts. The concerts focus on the voice and don't really act it out as well. I couldn't tell gavroche or fantine died. They don't have any scenery tbh and it feels like your watching a bunch of songs instead of a musical. Acting and performance is just as important. That is why this wins by far

its hard to sing for an audience when your at a border line whisper. I do agree, it is really pretty for someone dying but i like how she flinches and almost kisses him in this version. not to mention they cut out some lines in the movie

+Andrew Boone Lea Salonga sounds to much like a mature woman to do justice to the role. Eponine is a love-struck teenager and one of the most challenging roles in the entire play to do properly due to the emotional nature of the character. Its hard to sing and act like you're dying from a gunshot wound. Lea Salonga is a great singer, but I wasn't moved to tears by her performance.
