I would cry if I had a hickory like that bucked up before I could get to it but I bet you have a lot more hickory where you are than I can find here in Canada (although we do have some bitternut here and shagbark in driving distance).

It was super sad. I basically watched it rot. The house was in foreclosure for ever and then sat again while the bank sold it. Could have made awesome wood two or three years ago! Hoping to get a few good handles out of the hickory though!

Debbie just dumped 8” of rain on my house. You do not want pecan for firewood - it pops when it burns. Most novices do not know how to cut firewood. I cut 16-18 inch rounds. Get a piece or two of 2by6’s for a ramp to roll large rounds into your truck. On real big rounds I take along a sledge and several splitting wedges to use to split real big rounds, along with a good axe.

Everyone burns wood in my neighborhood. We've got an empty corner lot here that has some gigantic logs that have surprisingly been chainsawed already, but are just laying there abandoned. These are giant california oaks and conifers, so maybe the didn't have bars long enough on their saws and just left the gigantic sections they couldn't buck. But its so much firewood gone to waste. Probably could've been good lumber too if harvested fast enough.

Wow that’s amazing. It really is incredible how much great wood is just lying around. I’m looking forward to somebody coming up with an app or something to connect people with logs homeowners want removed
