Metro SD is the best. Love how the canyons punctuate the urban core and bringing nature in. A real paradise.

Good presentation, Dan. Hillcrest, Mission Hills, Banker's Hill, even North Park are on a quiet secret island plateau in the center of San Diego. The freeways go around. The craziness and endless sprawl are elsewhere.

Hey Dan, this video is awesome! Thanks for making it. I'm currently working on a documentary talking about the history of Hillcrest. Would you mind if I featured some of your footage? I'd of course make sure you're credited for the contribution. I just wanted to ask beforehand. Thanks!

Sure thing Todd. Good luck with your documentary, make sure to post it in this thread when it’s complete!

I like your videos, but was there full disclosure here? Large portions of Hillcrest have a significant homeless problem that has brought crime, litter and a depressing malaise. When we moved to SD 8 years ago, we looked at Hillcrest, and decided it was too dirty. Hillcrest is fun to visit, but live there? no way. We bought a nice house in Talmadge. Do a video on Talmadge. SD installed a lot of bike lanes a few years ago at significant expense. As you point out, SD is very hilly, and has a lot of canyons. So, I haven't noticed many people taking much advantage of the bike lanes. In some neighborhoods like North Park, they had to remove street parking to install the bike lanes, which wrecked many of the small local businesses there. I think city hall caved to a small number of loud biking activists, to the detriment of neighborhoods. Laughably, they said one reason to install bike lanes was to combat climate change. That is like combatting an oncoming hurricane by waving a paper fan at it.

Completely agree. Visited Hillcrest few months ago and the homeless situation was out of control. Didn't feel safe with kids.

I appreciate the feedback! The unfortunate truth of most walkable communities in San Diego is they also tend to have higher than average populations of homeless. It's a very sad problem that I don't see getting better anytime soon unfortunately. As far as Hillcrest goes, it really depends which part you are on. We spent the entire day there all around Hillcrest to film this video and we only saw one homeless person.

@DanPBestLifeSD You could say so in your broadcast. It's a misinformation. It does not matter if I like or not. I know the area because I live here. What else is misinformation. You know? 🤔
