So glad this project is finally done after two months... The reception to the video so far has been incredible, so I'll be sure to do a final essay in this new era of Pokemon on the Switch saga with Legends Arceus, and then I'll take a break from Pokemon stuff for a while, haha Anyway, as this project used WAY more material than KZbin will allow to fit in one of their descriptions, you can find full credit to all other creators work I used in this video down below, organized by order of first appearance. Also I've been getting a lot of comments asking me what game is being shown on screen at a lot of different points in the video, so I've also decided to include a list of all the games I featured in this video (excluding Pokemon games, most of which is credited under the footage section here anyway if it was taken from other channels) 🎮Featured Games (Mostly trailer footage or generic gameplay, and in mostly order of first appearance) _____________________ The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time 3D, Twilight Princess HD, Wind Waker HD, Link Between Worlds The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Grand Theft Auto V Assassin's Creed Unity Super Mario 3D All-Stars Fire Emblem Heroes Dead by Daylight Assassin's Creed Rogue Tales of Arise Metroid Dread Anthem Fire Emblem Fates WatchDogs Legion Dark Deity Breath of the Wild Breath of the Wild Sequel Elden Ring Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Bayonetta 3 Cyberpunk 2077 Xenoblade Chronicles X Assassin's Creed Rebel Collection Fallout 76 Planet Coaster Minecraft Xenoblade Chronicles Astral Chain Grand Theft Auto Trilogy - The Definitive Edition Call of Duty Vanguard Battlefield 2042 eFootball 2022 _____________________ 🎵Music _____________________ Chapter 1 - Pokémon Remake History, Before Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl's Release The World Revolving - Deltarune - The Second Narrator - kzbin.info/www/bejne/npKVqJyVZ96qaMk Lorekeeper Zinnia - Pokémon ΩRαS - sheddy - kzbin.info/www/bejne/op_GgqNtlK-JpaM Steam Gardens - Super Mario Odyssey - Catorstrax - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6TOl6t7esaghKs Song of Storms - The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time - Catorstrax - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIK6iXWgmLaLhNE Trailer Theme - The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Sequel - Melandru - kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4G5fWuEe7B8mq8 Kalos Power Plant/Pokéball Factory - Pokémon XY - sheddy - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHTShpmgadOVeMk Chapter 2 - The Hidden Scheme Lusamine - Pokémon SM - GlitchxCity - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioupfJ2FhNeeqNE Field of Hopes and Dreams - Deltarune - The Second Narrator - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIGag3ljbregeZo Theme X - Xenoblade Chronicles X - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWacmqp4jqmMmdk Main Theme "Generations" - Assassin's Creed - Tobias Alexander Ratka - kzbin.info/www/bejne/l53Mh5qsipWBhqc Radio Tower Takeover - Pokémon GSC - GlitchxCity - kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYPVoIV9nthsn7c Chapter 3 - Gameplay Temporal Tower - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers - Kamex - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKLLn2SjqtyJpaM Appa YipYip - ATLA - Simon Groß - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGO6iXSfhL6Jnbc Eternatus Phase 3 - Pokémon SwSh - Catorstrax -kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIezqo2Cbd-gfas Cynthia - Pokémon DPPt - sheddy - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYiaeZV4hLBsg5Y Planet Wisp - Sonic Colors - Kamex - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b33aoYiuhZWmpdk Route 201 - Pokémon DPPt - GlitchxCity, Helynt - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Znu2iKFneat1atk Temporal Tower - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers - insaneintherainmusic - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6S9e3p8mNd_bZI Tellur Town Autumn 'Descension' - Pokkén Tournament - sheddy - kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHbCn2edrtOJrNU Kansas - Rise of the Shield Hero - Danski Beats - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGmceHqHmbiMibM On The Beach Of Dreams - Chrono Cross - Tymedust - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3_Qi3uHfM6Hna8 Big Bang! - Mario & Luigi Paper Jam - Gamliel Zafrana - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3eloZ5ojq6Ee9k The World Revolving - Deltarune - Emdasche - kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3LGhKaHqKiZqpI Sky Tower - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team - sheddy -kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpC4knRopb6brqM Chapter 4 - Visuals & Aesthetics Route 111 - Pokémon RSE - GlitchxCity - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH-bpGSni6Zjfsk Through The Sea Of Time - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers - sheddy - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGrOp6uGobKqhJI Two Flamingos - Planet Zoo - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnPYdoanlM9nj5I Route 228 - Pokémon DPPt - insaneintherainmusic - kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5S8hXuYhKqYgJo Chapter 5 - Soundtrack Eterna City (Night) - Pokémon BDSP - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZDCY5SforF2jbs Route 203 (Day) - Pokémon BDSP - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6a6hXykgax0ppo Route 209 (Night) - Pokémon BDSP - kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHrZc4eehc5qhqM Cynthia - Pokémon BDSP - kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHKzmIZsbNx1aKM Cynthia - Pokémon DPPt - Super Smash Bros. for Wii U - kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6jKpaeJpNV6qa8 Cynthia - Pokémon DPPt - Pokémon Masters - kzbin.info/www/bejne/in6TeIaJh7edq7M Zinnia - Pokémon ΩRαS - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXrRaZKHZ5yKfLs Zinnia - Pokémon ΩRαS - Super Smash Bros. That's literally why all games have that. I can't remember which game it was specifically, but there was a huge stink over a game that had misleading trailers where the graphics were pumped up for the trailers only and the actual game was downgraded and buggy. They copped it pretty hard for false advertising and their shareholders threw a fit as the trailers seemed like outright lies built to trick them into investing. From then on we've seen "Game footage not final" or "Footage may not reflect actual gameplay" or "Final product may differ" in pretty much every trailer, gameplay or otherwise. The sucky thing about that is that some game companies have managed to spin this to their advantage. Like "oh, you thought the game would deliver on what we showed you in the trailers? Well, you should have looked at the disclaimer at the bottom! It's technically not false advertising because we slapped on the Not Final warning so we legally don't have to deliver shit if we don't wanna and you can't hold us accountable~"

The distortion world was entirely designed to be a technical showcase. Back then, seeing the player character leaving the 2d plane that is the ground and walking up on walls and on the ceiling was absolutely stunning. It's the exact same vibe that Castelia City and BW's victory road gave, being the first pokemon locations to feature non-rectangular areas. They were also the first games to allow players to physically run around most of the region together and be able to see each other, via infrared connection. Same as soaring in ORAS, the first and only game where you can see the entire region from above all at once, and without a boring town map. Same as X and Y, the first fully 3D pokemon games, with routes that weren't made up of square tiles and organized lines of tree barricades. Of course nowadays, the distortion world isn't impressive or even really that unique anymore. Tons of space games like mario galaxy and Outer Wilds have the player walking on walls and ceilings. Tons of games have zero g moment. Tons of games include environments that shift and change around the player. Tons of games have 3D environments. So if a remake of gen 4 were to be made, then they'd have to give the distortion world a MASSIVE glow up for it to even compare to the spectacles of modern games. But of course, we didn't get that, and we probably never will... I just hope they never make a gen 5 remake...

I think the purpose of a remake is to preserve a game that is no longer purchasable. So now the next generation of gamers can play without buying an old DS and trying to find a copy of Diamon or Pearl. To be fair, you could also do this with a virtual console, but just getting the same thing with HD graphics really didn't bother me. To be fair it is marked as a "remake" not a "remaster."

Probably a dumb reason but that was my reason, haha. The funny thing about the remakes trying to be faithful to the originals is that it fails even in that regard. You as the player can move in any direction now, which creates issues as the game was originally meant to be grid-based. Plus the perma-on exp-share affects balance so they indeed should have taken that into account or nuked the exp. share altogether. Instead they gave the Elite 4 the only real changes. So they did think of it, yet didn't apply it elsewhere. Cutscenes where characters move in 90-degree angles are even different than the original as characters wouldn't stop in place at a corner, turn, then begin moving again, they just sort of teleport-turn instantly. Which this game still has anyway as you noticed. So they didn't even implement it appropriately to try and imitate the way it was for charm or detail. Not that cutscenes are the most important things of course, but it's just another example of them not being faithful to the originals if that's what they were aiming for. Lots' more really. But the bottom line is they either didn't know what to do with them or were lazy for a cash grab. I'm leaning towards the latter.

I really like the idea of friendship level making your pokemon stronger since friendship has been a big theme in basically every Pokemon game, but I think it should have been limitied to the _occasional_ critical hit or 1 HP survival. The taking no damage and status effect recoveries are silly.

As a Zelda fan, also a Pokémon fan, I wouldn’t excuse these “remakes”. Zelda games are honest with what they are, HD remasters, says it in the title. Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, and Skyward Sword HD, so you know what you’re getting. Every Pokémon remake has always been new twists on the originals, these weren’t diamond and pearl HD, they were brilliant diamond and shining pearl. That’s the biggest difference, LoZ does remasters, Pokémon did remakes….until now

Also, can I just say as a layout artist in film and tv, did anyone else HATE the camera work in this game? It’s like the artists never opened their editors and took a look at how their cameras move on a motion path. They are so abrupt, moving as if it’s turning sharp invisible corners…when a simple ease and and ease out would have been so much more appealing. For a game that claimed to be a perfect remake…. Just keep it top down! If your cameras are going to be this rough don’t bother or else you just break the immersion.

The Xenoblade X data packs contain uncompressed versions of basically every texture in the game, which is a hell of a lot of textures when you take into account how big the game's map is and how many different entities there are. It's also important to note that it was divided into 4 packs, so if you couldn't or didn't want to commit to the full 10 GB download, you could pick and choose what was most important to you. And the reason they did any of this wasn't any sort of time or cost-saving measure on their end - a Wii U disc can't contain more than 25 GB. Massively compressing the game's textures was the only way they could do a physical release at all.

Gen 4 Heart Gold/Soul Silver are not just the best Pokemon Remakes, but also are easily among of the best remakes in gaming history. They kept everything that made Gen 2 great, and then added features that were sorely missing, greatly expanded upon, and/or never in the originals like it was the true vision for Gen 2 finally being realized. Gen 6 OR/AS on the other hand did not really expand much from the Gen 3 originals, and not having Emerald's Battle Frontier was a massive step backwards.

It is sad to me that in the end this is the one Chance we had for a Gen4 Remake. The start of the DS. The era which brought Pokémon further than anything before. And now it is side by side with the worst era in Pokémon possible. Back then they pushed it to the limit until BW2. The 3Ds era introduced optional easy mode and became more linear, plus they cut the postgame. While it didn't feel like they're moving forward it was a good time. Breeding was very easy and aside from the USUM cashgrab none title felt like a total disaster. Although I can understand people being dissapointed by Sun and Moon. The biggest problem on 3Ds was Pokémon Bank being the only way to transfer Pokémon. With that the monetization being number 1 priority started to take over. And nowadays they do what's nessecary. I don't wanna blame Gamefreak in particular although they don't know how to create 3D Environments by 2020 standards. But the whole way the series heads with their main games is trash. It is sad that instead doing what they could do they decide to pump the whole money into mobile games to get even more money back (btw some of the people playing gacha are addicted to stuff like this and Pokémon in particular is aimed at children. Fantastic.) When coming back to Sinnoh I will stay on the DS and recommend you to do the same. Both Diamond and Pearl have nearly the same content than the remakes minus the underground. Even the bad Pokédex is the same. And Platinum is basically a fixed version (minus DP exclusive Mons which is stupid) and on top of that if you want to transfer Pokémon from GBA to the DS you only need to have a Nintendo DS Lite. The idea of the faithful remakes falls apart the moment you consider Fairy type anyways. That alone makes it so you'll need to rebalance every trainer in the game or the game, so you might as well aim to go for the definitive experience. ORAS' main campaign was also broken because of this, so they had that game as a stepping stone to learn from. I kinda wish these remakes were the 2022 fall titles instead and that Scarlet moved over to 2023. Arceus was enough to carry 2022... But at the same time, they would have totally released Arceus with 2 months less of development.

To be completely fair to ORAS while you can massacre most of the main story with Fairies, you get punched in the throat, specifically by a large Mega-Evolved metal spider with 145 base ATK and Tough Claws and a STAB Steel move that can raise its already astronomically high ATK, for using Fairies at the end of the main game.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver delivered so hard it is unreal. They are hands down the best Pokemon games I've ever played. Only god knows how many times I've replayed them and how many more I will. Plenty (but sadly not all) of the features from these games became staples in later versions. Here's a quick reminder of some of the great stuff HGSS did: * Fun minigames both within the catridge (Pokeathlon) and with an external hardware (Pokewalker) * Retrocompatibility with an earlier generation to preserve your old Pokemon (Pal Park) * GTS to help you complete the Pokedex * National Dex * Awesome post game content (Battle Frontier & Safari Zone) * Walking Pokemon * Character cameos * Gift starters from earlier generations * 2 mascot legendaries available for capture * 2 different regions with their respective gyms * Re-matches with gym leaders and regular trainers (no VS seeker though) * Repeatable methods for obtaining rare items like evolutionary stones * Move tutors * Permanent running shoes * Shortcuts for multiple key items * Re-spawning roaming Pokemon * Masuda Method for easier Shinies * Updated breeding mechanics (Power items and Everstone) * Stats judge * Intuitive PC box interface * Touchscreen-friendly Overworld interface to the point you can play the game without having to press any button at all (except for the d-pad of course) * Retro soundtrack for the nostalgia Honestly, the only thing that might keep these 2 games from being the ultimate Pokemon experience would be perhaps the absence of modern and updated game mechanics that make the game unnecessarily grindy, eg. nature mints, bottle caps, destiny knot, PC stats judge, hidden abilities, etc. And even then, you can still get most of of these by patching them to a DS rom. It will be a while until we are again able to see this sheer amount of content and updated game mechanics in one single initial release. Nowadays you'd be lucky to get half the experience you got from HGSS even after paying extra for DLCs or a subscription service.

Videos like this make me sad because they're right. Pokemon impacted my life growing up and until today so much, not just because the games were fun but also because it'd spark genuine interest in drawing, videogames and designing my own creatures. It formed a lot of my hobbies and interests and it's really fun. But nowadays, I stick to anything up to (and even including, barely) Gen6 because the more recent games are kinda gut punches. I'm currently playing Brilliant Diamond after a friend (who grew up on DP) lent me his copy and it's disheartening to see how little care went into the game beyond "these are the elements it needs to have, put them in". Honestly the most laughable part is that BDSP is somehow even worse than RED and BLUE in the glitches department (especially in its launch state). With the original gen 1 games most of the most notable glitches were so out of the way in terms of normal gameplay that you had to actively look for them or is ludicrously rare to encounter. BDSP has a literal soft lock that players could accidently find themselves and a void glitch that completely blows the original glitch in DPP out of the water with how easy it is to trigger.

Badge boost glitch being a very common one that affected game experience but they still have a point. I have not had an opportunity to comb through the comments section to see if anyone has offered clarification for this, but I'd like to point out something that contributes to the discussion of difficulty and the intended audience. My observations have led me to the conclusion that the game was designed with veterans in mind, specifically fans of the originals who have commit large swathes of the original games to memory. - It is comparable to the DS remake of Final Fantasy 4, which employs many predatory "Ha! Gotcha!" moments with basically every boss in the game, preying upon working knowledge of the SNES experience to have former bosses behave differently in radical ways. In BDSP, the Trainers you face do not suddenly start using competitive - or super grimy strats - until you hit the Elite 4; they are doing this as early as Roark's gym. Roark's Cranidos comes equipped with Headbutt, a confirmed Jolly Nature, and potentially a perfect 31 IVs in that Speed stat. Why? To try and flinch-lock you, regardless of the Starter you chose. In Gardenia's Gym, one the Trainers gave her Turtwig Iron Tail...for some reason, but the one I want to highlight is the Trainer whose Budew uses Rest and Sleep Talk. Like, it's the second Gym and you're pulling Rest Talk? Game, please. The other Gym Leaders only escalate from here, like Maylene using her Meditite for Light Screen, and it's holding a Light Clay for the 3-Turn extension. - A few more examples, just to sell the idea. Mars' first encounter in the Valley Windworks does see the use of Fake Out from her Purugly, even in the originals. In BDSP, however, they upgraded her AI so that, after her Zubat lands Supersonic, she will switch to Purugly, potentially for free if you hit yourself since we're back to the 66% chance of self-damage, and then she'll pop Fake Out to steal another turn from you. What about Jupiter? In the originals, her Skuntank had Night Slash, which is pretty threatening since it's STAB and can crit; for BDSP? They gave it Acid Spray to lower your Special Defense along with friggin' Flamethrower. Second Gym badge and we are getting hit with Flamethrower. Her Zubat also attempts to **Toxic** Stall using Mean Look and Poison Fang, while healing through wimpy Absorb and fishing for no-damage turns with Supersonic. This would have been made more apparent if Zubat wasn't so easy to dispatch, and if it had kept Giga Drain like it did in the originals, but you get the idea. The difficulty curve admittedly does not last too long; for me it really was just the first stretch, but one other thing I want to point out is how the innate EXP All brought with it a nerf to EXP yields. In...I think basically every mainline game before this, Trainer Pokemon would yield a higher amount of base experience compared to wild Pokemon of the same level, which made Sun/Moon and SwSh notably easier since they also had innate EXP All. SuMo is somewhat balanced in that filling the dex and constantly switching your team around is heavily encouraged; if you ignore the dex, your team might be underprepared for challenges to come since the EXP you get from that is quite substantial. - I don't understand why this is so difficult for the devs. They already made the perfect leveling curve system for the franchise when they created Gen 5, only to abandon it after B2W2. ORAS is the closest we've gotten to that system since and I don't have faith that we'll ever see it again. Fantastic video, by the way; keep it up.
@taputrainer84632 жыл бұрын
Even though I haven’t played bdsp myself, my suggestion to fix this for future games is to adjust the amount of evs and ivs to fit the difficulty in that point of the game. And since most players of the story won’t grind for evs or the Pokémon they catch won’t have perfect ivs, they shouldn’t ever make them as they were in bdsp because the player will almost always be at a disadvantage and it’s just not fair in my eyes. That’s why I think adjusting the evs and ivs for difficultly would be much more of a fair challenge for the player

One thing that absolutely infuriates me is how these games are handling the mystery gift/Mythical Pokemon events. At first, it seems like they're honoring the original theme of releasing these special items to trigger events. But... what I hate is the restrictive aspect. It's repeating the exact problem that the original Mystery Gifts/Mythical Events had. It's restricting new players from experiencing these events in the future. One example: I'm a full time college student, so I was so busy that by the time I remembered the Shaymin event, it was already the next month and the event was gone. So... no Shaymin event for me. And next month was Darkrai. The Darkrai event could ONLY be done in the month of April. If you downloaded the ticket and then forgot to got back because life and work got in the way... well, F-you, you gotta wait another year. And these games are around for a long time, so new players who get the game in holiday 2022 and so on, means those certain events are locked out for the future generations of players. Like, one good example done right is hunting the Regis in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and the remakes. No time lock, no limited time event. You're given a puzzle, and it's up to you to figure it out. It gives you a sense of mystery and fun, and an incredibly satisfying feeling when you solve it and confront the Regis. So, either they should have incorporated the Mystery Gift events into the main game or kept the Mystery Gift Wi-fi links up in perpetuity. Like how the 3DS virtual release of Crystal included the GX Ball event pre-programmed. And the fact that they incorporated certain events like the famous Azure Flute for completing certain accomplishments in Let's Go Arceus, which requires no time lock, shows that they could think of that.

IMO gen 7 was the last generation where Pokémon felt… special. You could get every legendary, you could get every Pokémon, the events were cool, you could have so many different battle styles - have every Pokémon on your team be able to mega evolve, have everyone hold a z-crystal, only use Pokémon with exclusive Z-moves, etc. It sucks that we probably won’t go back to something like that again.

In Gen 7 the rot had already been setting in for the second generation in a row. But, I will grant it was the last time you could see some semblance of effort. But remember gen 7 was also pretty bad. They released Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon less than 365 days after Sun and Moon, and introduced a large number of new pokemon mid-generation with no patch. Prior to Gen 7, the only instances of new pokemon introduced mid-generation had been alternate forms that, while not usable in other games, could still be traded, and the Spiky-Eared Pichu which is unique to HGSS alone and couldn't be traded even between those games. Unless you count Black/White Kyurem, anyway. Gen 7 went to town with introducing new pokemon and making incompatibiltiies with Midday Lycanroc, Poinpole and a bunch of extra Ultra Beasts.

This idea that a game isn’t quite close to be finished in the same year it is projected to be released is ludicrous- yet lots of people do claim ‘game not final’ to be the saving by grace. I’ve argued with people that games are time intensive projects that need a lot of work to get right. If you have to go back and ch age something, it usually isn’t just one thing you have to change. It might seem like a slight color correction is warranted based on the juxtaposition of a character and an specific environment, but is that color correct for other environs? Does it change the atmosphere to something you didn’t intend? Or what about changing a price of clothing- does it clip through certain models at certain times? Does it look natural or correct at all reasonable times? So when I see a game that is still struggling to get basic things fixed less than year until launch, I get worried. When Anthem came out, I played the demo that released 2 weeks prior. Based off the demo I knew right away that the game seemed fun, but empty. The main hub was not bustling with NPCs as advertised, most NPCs had no dialogue, and other issues that told me that the game probably needed a few more months at least. I did not buy the game. I did not get on the hype train. And 2 yrs later, the game shut down due to the exact issues I noted from the demo. When a company releases a trailer or demo, that is their opportunity to REALLY sell you that product, so it had better be the best looking product it can possibly be. If you see major issues in a trailer or demo, then know that the game itself will have issues. Even Legends arceus, which people seem to really like, has an issue where most of the gameplay is VERY repetitive, but also tedious. Repetition is fine, tedium is not. Also the side quest system is quite shallow- mostly consisting of ‘go to location and catch Pokémon’ or ‘find X items’. It’s dressed up busy work to pad run time. Though to be fair this is the norm for games of that genre. Still, these were issues that were visible in the trailers, but people said ‘no, footage not final’. Sorry for the Ted talk, but I think it’s important to be critical. It only helps keep the companies honest, and the consumer informed.

I didn't actually know about Anthem getting shut down, but did know about it failing after it was pumped out. Anthem was actually developed here in my city, so I remember as part of our game design classes the professor would show us new trailers to Anthem to talk about how that was the next big game being developed here, the next big thing the gaming industry would know Edmonton for. But then it shipped the way it did... I've actually seen a couple interesting videos on Anthem before, apparently it was given 7 year development time, but they wasted 5 years on pre-production and then had 2 years to bumrush actually making the game that EA refused to budge on the timeframe for. I haven't yet played Legends Arceus myself, will be as of later today though. I've heard of a lot of people having a lot of fun with it, though graphically it might be the most unimpressive game I've seen on the Switch. Hopefully I don't find it super repetitive and tedious as is described here, but only time will tell it seems...

Arceus is Anthem once again. Every aspect that may look fun or interesting is superficial. The game is empty and its low quantity of just 97 families repeating over and over make such a shallow experience... The freaking Volcano is 10 meters tall at best lol.
@TheAbsol74482 жыл бұрын
The gameplay loop in Legends: Arceus is pretty repetitive, but it's so much more fun than I was expecting it to be, so it doesn't really bother me. The repetitive stuff happens _really_ fast, so it's pretty easy to move on from it to something more interesting.
@reallyrll2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as somebody actively choosing to bother filling out Pokedex entries to 100% conpleteion... I have to say Legends Arceus is doing a really good job of making what is repetitive fun. The fact that it's so fast is absolutely a factor. The fact that I can sneak up on 3 Drifloon, catch two, accidentally startle the other, fight it, and clear two other Pokedex requirements by nailing it with a shadow ball, and move on in the span of about a minute or two means it doesn't wind up feeling like busywork at all. Deciding what mons to use on top of that so I can conjoin "defeat X number of pokemon" tasks with "see X pokemon use Y move Z amount of times" adds a great deal of strategy to it. I figured out I could finish Wurple's "see Poison sting 25 times" objective faster by pitting my Wurmple against wild ones, who only know poison sting - doubling the amount of moves I recorded per battle. Then I discovered the Wurmple would run away due to my level even though my Wurmple was only level 5, so I had to go back to sneaking.. and since I'm sneaking around anyway I might as well catch all those Starly I need too. And I just passed by some Shinxs on the way here - let me check my Pokedex, I need to take those out with Ground type attacks? Good thing I remembered to take out a Pokemon so I could do that too! I understand that kind of thing isn't for everyone. Not everybody has the same appetite for completion like that, and that's perfecrly okay. But Arceus isn't a bad game because it's repetitive - for a great deal of people, it's repetitve done really well, in a quick and engaging way that allows us to ignore the main quest in favor of getting lost catching Pokemon for hours.

Now the part i disagree, distortion world in Pt is dated, but i think that means its best to modernize it and make it a mini dungeon for fun exploration. They couldve also given more lore around it since the alola games gave a possibility that it has a connection to the ultra space. Something really changed with pokemon in gen 6 as it moved to 3D. You mentioned gimmicks but I think its far more than that. I'm always blown away that Gen 5 had custom animations for each pokemon, from both ends, and yet in newer titles they claim they have to remake all the models so we can't include this, but than its all imports and upscales anyway. Gen 7 felt like an attempt to recatch the magic and honestly it was solid enough enough that I enjoyed it, but gen 8 was a train wreck in almost every way it could be. The only consistent thing about pokemon anymore is waifus and music, but story, gameplay, and the overall product suffers. For a product that is guaranteed to sell, why are these games so lacking or have a story that doesn't make ANY sense? Sword and Shield sold 24 million copies, about a billion dollars in revenue, and yet look at the issues of that game. If there was every a media franchise surviving on life support from past good will its pokmeon, and I hate that it could be so much more.

I think what's happening with the Spear Pillar is that, because you sequence broke the game, it doesn't know what to do with you in that space. You see, this game isn't actually BD. It's both of them. There's a toggle that indicates which version you're supposed to be playing. (So, essentially, the double pack for these games is a scam. You're paying for the same software twice, only difference is the toggle). Hence why you get both Adamant/Lustrous Orbs or get Palkia's background for the battle when in that state. The game doesn't know what version of itself you're playing anymore because you probably bypassed a flag check. It probably just flag checks enough to put Dialga there but past that it goes all "????".

Regarding the story of platinum, there's more that could have been exploited in a possible rewriting of the story especially when it comes to the Team Galactic, it's very possible to see some personality out of the commanders of Team Galactic but in Platinum only: Mars is very much the most devoted out of them all in post game she's the only one that gets angry at the player for trying to stop Cyrus's plans, actually she's the only one who gets worreid when Cyrus gets trapped in the distortion space and she's so emotionally affected by his disparition that when we find them in the post game side quest she's the first one to jump at us for answers and when all the fighting is done she quits the team to find him, followed closely by Jupiter who's sole reason to be there was because Cyrus was apparently "the only interesting thing in the galaxy team" and thinking about her next ventures making it clear she had no real reason for being a Galactic member and finally Saturn who ends up being the one who was all that time trying to understand Cyrus plans and the methods he went about them not understanding why he diddn't care that the player would try to prevent them from successing but when you meet him in the Galactic HQ after the league he admits that he knew from the beginning Cyrus ideals were wrong but he was motivated to follow Cyrus to understand his way of seeing things and he also has ideas on how to seem more genuine in this plan to reshape the world in a way that's beneficial for all. You can learn about Cyrus himself if you visit Sunnyshore city, you'll learn there was a kid that was very proficient with machinery that one day just vanished, the one thing of note being that he was always alone working on machines and not many people actually knew him and if you visit one of the house on the roads in the battle zone (a bit random i know) you can find an old man that presents himself as the grand parent of Cyrus, lamenting that the kid was always under pressure to have a perfect record to the point where he isolated himself from the world by working on machines. He feels guilty because he wished he had took the kid with him before cutting ties with the parents. Cyrus himself can be observed to gain a Crowbat through evolution of his Golbat betraying the facade that he shows of an emotionless man except it's fully possible to explain it that he was simply getting happier because his plans to creating his on world was getting closer and closer to fruition so his mood would improve as well. One last thing of note that is interesting for the pokemon lore imo, behind Cyrus in his HQ there's a computer that contains the data they acquired from studying the legendaries of the region and their myths and it's interesting to note that it mentions that pokeballs don't allow a deity to use the full extent of their power or at least it can't allow them to which is why they go out of their way to create the red chain. I understand this is a lot of subtext that's left to the player to find on their own but when you start piecing things together and the picture gets larger it really become a more coherent story where you understand that Galactic team really was just a tool for Cyrus to complete his plans and with PLA showing us that the Galactic team thing is a family buiseness of sorts they could have had something going but oh well

I'm probably the only person here who appreciates the classic random encounters. While I enjoy seeing overworld pokemon, the idea one could be hiding behind any bush at random and you "never know" whats gonna jump out, in a way, actually makes it feel more full/populated.
@bountyhunter6282 жыл бұрын
No same, I largely prefer random encounters in my turn-based JRPGs. It feels more rewarding to find a rare or shiny Pokemon, and personally feels less frustrating trying to get a rare Pokemon to spawn than in, say, PLA where I gotta constantly move from on part of a map to another just in case it spawned in one of the multiple areas on the map you can find it. I got very frustrated looking for Alpha versions of Pokemon that aren't permaspawns lol

I sorta agree with this, although I wish pokemon had embraced the modernization of random encounters like how modern Square game did with their classic styled rpgs. For instance, in remakes of old final fantasy games or in the bravely default series you could adjust the frequency or completely turn off random battle encounters, and it added a depth of difficulty adjustment as well in the sense that if you wanted bosses to be more challenging you could reduce the amount of battles you encounter to gain exp. I've said this once and I'll say it again; When most people say they liked Gen 4 or Sinnoh, they're talking about Platinum, not Diamond and Pearl (With the exception of HGSS, I'm talking about the non-remakes). The Battle Frontier was part of the reason I loved Platinum and HGSS so much, as well as the CTF games that could be played in the Underground and cool decorating. With those things gone? Well, I have practically no interest in these remakes. They took out my favourite Pokemon co-op experience (that being the Multi Battles in all of the Battle Frontier facilities) and the charm that the underground once had. This should have been a Platinum remake, not a Diamond and Pearl remake. This really is some monkey's paw-like stuff right here... It's so sad, especially for someone like me who wanted to have this game be the proper introduction to Pokemon for my friends, instead of suggesting they play an older Pokemon game on an emulator. The contests and underground section were the biggest kick for me, I never had the chance to play capture the flag and show my base off in the original so I was so looking forwards to being able to do it and it wasn't there.

@@matthewbentley1236 I watched the streams Harmonia did to get the footage. Half the glitches just suddenly happened or were noticed by chatters. It wasn't the result of intentionally breaking the game, they resulted just from normal playing of the game. This game is just so glitchy and buggy that it breaks just from being played.

@@Retrogamershaun And that's fair I'm glad you didn't encounter any bugs/glitches but I know I did and many other content creators as well encountered many glitches with the day 1 patch installed. The whole preorder bonuses and the FOMO thing you mentioned is why I dont become a completionist plus sometimes the preorder bonuses here in America sucks esp if you preorder a game expecting it to at least come with a few posters, a sheet of cool looking stickers, a plush or two, and maybe an art book detailing a lot of the thought processses behind designing the game and whatnot but then when the preorder comes it's a sucky bag (I think COD had a huge backlash over the preorder bonus being a crappy tote bag or something?), a poorly done plush, or something even more disappointing, a cheap plastic bracelet lol. Plus the price of the preorders are often way too expensive for most people to get just to get a plush or a bracelet or some single item that had minimum effort put into it. And what makes the preorder bonuses even worse is that the game will still be sold for the same exact price upon release.
@InhabitantOfOddworld2 жыл бұрын
Yup, preorders are always overpriced but cheaply produced tat. COD gave out a worse quality bag than promised. I don't bother with preorders, and not much of a completionist either. I prefer to save my money than squander it on massive game corporations

The removal of many player to player interaction features in the underground really bummed me out in a very personal way. I got these games a while after release so I never really had the opportunity to use them, and I always wished I was able to play capture the flag and do the spiritomb quest and see all the decorative secret bases people made. When a remake was announced I was excited to finally be able to experience those, but nope. People talk about the underground like it’s the one big improvement, and even then it’s a win some and lose some deal.

@@domicraft6341 yeah right? They made the spiritomb quest so much more painful than it would’ve been if they kept the old method. Now you have to track down like 40 NPCs who’s locations are randomised and aren’t always spawned, I’m absolutely not bothering with that

I hadn’t played either BD or SP and I’m heartbroken to see what they did to contests. As a kid I loved the grind to become the best at EVERYTHING a Pokémon trainer could be. I wasn’t gonna just save the world and be the champion I was gonna be the top trainer in every contest category too. I’m pretty sure I grinded for contests way more than I ever did for the gym challenges or for the plot.

I think the games lighting is too bright and it really distracts sometimes, I think they could have made the colours more saturated too. Fans had so many great ideas for the remakes but I feel like the developers were definitely out of touch when making it. It’s a BIG miss

Contests turning into a rhythm mini-game would be fine if 1: it wasn't boring, and 2: this remake was done like previous ones rather than supposedly being "faithful".
@kingofcrap44142 жыл бұрын
I don't think they even cared about being faithful, they just wanted to use that as an excuse to defend themselves from fans asking where all the Platinum content went. A.K.A. they were just lazy. Also, I fear that turning Contests into a rhythm minigame may have been an attempt to ride on the coattails of Tuesday Night Trashpile, but I hope I'm wrong.

I think the worst part is the apricorn balls that this game has, they are completely locked behind buying the game physically at a specific store early, and are completely unobtainable any other way in the game or out of the game except cheating. The apricorn balls truly are some of my favorites and especially for a shiny hunter when you want your pokemon to fit the right ball it just sucks when the company fucks you over in such a pathetic way like giving you only 2 of each and never be able to get more.

I'm almost positive that the 'fomo' Pokémon for pre-orders have been happening since B/W. You could only get Victini for a limited time, and that was the first instance of it being introduced into the franchise so there was no other way to obtain it in game.

That was always the case with all event pokemon. Though this game was definitely the most aggregious version so far with not only a pokemon but also an outfit and other goods as preorder bonuses being locked otherwise.

FOMO for Pokemon has existed since the very first generation with event stuff like Surfing Pikachu for Yellow.
@els2362 жыл бұрын
@@charnalk5572 It has existed since the dawn of Pokemon games, although it did really start to kick off with Gen3 and the introduction of the "Mystery Gift" system - which - because of the lack of internet capabilities, required you to actually go in person to your local GameStop (USA) or [idk] in Japan, while Europe usually got completely shafted, outside of a few GAME stores in the UK, usually around London and such. Since the DS/3DS and internet capabilities, it became a lot easier, but it would most certainly require you to either pre-order the game, or at least have the game within the first month, while the "offer" was valid., such as your mentioned Shiny Beldum in ORAS. It's the main reason I never felt bad using an ActionReplay cheat device to activate said gifts on games I got late, or on brand new saves. Unfortunately, no such device exists for the Switch and to actually "cheat" requires you to install Homebrew and... yeah, it's not something a lot of people are either comfortable or capable of.

Yeah that's something they had even when Pokemon games had actual effort put into them. It always sucked because they hid the coolest legendaries behind these events, like Darkrai, Shaymin-Sky, Jirachi, Deoxys (pre oras), or Genesect. At least there's that DNS trick you can use to get them in the older games now
