Usually this is where I'd write some extra thoughts of mine or insight into why I created the video or whatnot, but this time I honestly don't know what to say. This isn't an easy topic for me to talk about, considering Pokémon is one of my big three childhood franchises (other two being RCT and Sly), and it's definitely helped shape a fascination in video games in me that's had me pursue game design today. It's hard for me to look at the current state of the series and really just express what I feel needs to be said, like during the whole Sword/Shield fiasco I never really brought up any issues myself at the time and just went with the flow, even semi defending some bad design decisions. But at the end of the day, it's a multi-billion dollar company, they don't care about x random person defending them on the interwebs. What they do care about is if fans are aware of the issues that can otherwise be gotten away with, and if a great number of fans express that things aren't up to their expectations. And so I figure for that reason it's more important to spread criticism and problem awareness than defense, but that's my hot take on that matter at least. As I say in the video though, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Like if you're hyped for the remakes, then great, I hope you get lots of fun out of them. You have no obligation to follow my opinion, but I do thank you for taking the time to hear it out. And please, let's be civil. I know this is a controversial topic, but please don't say anything to anybody in the comments section you wouldn't say to somebody face to face. Behind every username is a real person with their own experiences, aspirations, personalities, sensitivities... Somebody having a different opinion on a series of children's video games is never enough reason to personally attack them. (Literally hundreds of commenters anyway: "This can't stop me because I can't read!") Anyway, as always I'll use the pinned comment for any updated information or things I got wrong (and despite including this here I'm STILL "corrected" by several people in comments on a daily basis ALWAYS for these exact two points, so uh, there's that) -Turns out Pokemon HOME doesn't immediately pull the trigger on your Pokemon if you stop paying, it just keeps them permanently locked away until you can afford to pay their bail. Even if it's not immediately deleted this is still glorified ransomware, your data is still being kept from you unless you pay up. Almost any other cloud service you'll be able to download your data before your plan runs out, but sure not for Pokemon HOME if it's any Pokemon not allowed in Sword/Shield, literally the only way to have any control over any of these specific mons put in there is to pay. I have also heard some reports that if you don't pay for long enough they may be deleted after an undisclosed amount of time as well. www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/f8sciw/pok%C3%A9mon_home_will_delete_pok%C3%A9mon_after_some_time/ -Yes technically you can still receive the Pokemon added by the SwSh DLC from trades or such even if you don't own the DLC Greetings from December 2021. Since KZbin recently hid the dislike count on all videos on the platform, I'm sure a lot of people might be wondering what the Like ratio is on this video anyway? 92.3%... 92.3% is the Like ratio as of December 4, 2021. Ever since the dislike count became hidden though, let's just see I've seen a dramatic increase in those with a "greater than thou" mentality in the comments. cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/427865701441732643/916644444688748544/Like_Ratio.jpg Also it's neat to have seen so much reception on this video, but, I do have other videos too ya know...?

You literally want them to bring that magic back so that others can feel what you feel, so they made the Sinnoh remakes. They’re keeping it as original as the originals were, by only upgrading them to 3D, as far as we know, so that the younger generation can experience what we did 15 years ago, yet you complain about the BDSP? It doesn’t make sense to me, your logic.
@AcousticHarmonia3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't make sense because you took my argument out of context. The magic I felt was the will to create something new the world hadn't experienced before. Even in remakes in the past it would be so different to the originals that it felt like experiencing the world of the originals with the gameplay of a completely new game. I don't want people to experience the exact same game scaled up (they could just go play the originals), I want people to feel the passion that goes into creating something new and unique instead of the lazy way out.

Yeah I agree with your second comment I'm in the boat that the remakes were the lesser of two evils or at least for the community I would have loved to see completely remastered versions of the games but then people would complain that they lost the originals charm at worst we just got the games that I enjoyed when I got into the series at best we get it with possibly new features there is evidence for it but it's too early to call though everything you said on bank I wholeheartedly agree with that service is trash at least it doesn't delete your pokémon though

@@SqueezySponge it's fine for me people to disappointed with these remix considering that so far they haven't done what other remakes have I think what he was talking about and the latter part of the video was that the community pushing so hard for the remix to be made led to gamefreak just rushing it out which I could definitely see as they gave it to another company which isn't necessarily a bad thing but kind of shows that they wanted to work on Legends more than gen 4 remakes

@zomaclee28943 жыл бұрын
@@AcousticHarmonia I like the emotions you put into this video, it really shows how deeply you care about this series, and I know you are someone truly authentic (don't become a monotone robot lol). I don't normally comment on videos, but I see the passion that went into this video, so let me share some of my thoughts. I used to love Pokémon; it was a large part of my childhood and teen years. I must have put in thousands of hours into the games alone. I stopped playing up to diamond and pearl (on the ds). I basically caught them all (besides one or two event based only pokemon), I remember having to do the whole safari thing in diamond to transfer my entire collection from fire red and emerald. It was stupidly tedious, but I did it to (hopefully) future proof my pokemon, as I assumed that transferring pokemon from the newer generations from then on would be a piece of cake since the technology was no longer the limiting factor, I just never thought I’d had to take into account Nintendo’s greed… There was a large gap where I just stopped playing pokemon games. I heard the story of black and white was great, so I did go back to play them a few years back (the story was indeed great). I also bought a fresh 3ds just to play pokemon sun, but it became abundantly clear that there was little to no point going through the humongous effort to transfer all my old pokémon into the newer generations. All I ended up doing with these newer pokemon games was beat the story, and that’s it. As a kid, playing a 3D pokémon game was practically my dream. Pokemon Sun fulfilled that for me, though I felt disappointed that I couldn’t easily bring my old pokemon that I worked so hard to train (ev trained and everything). I know it’s not impossible to do it, but seeing how Nintendo is behaving, I have zero incentive to do so, and I officially consider myself retired from playing pokémon. I treasured my hard earned 5 star black trainer card on my pokemon diamond, so to commemorate it, I dumped my original cartridge into a rom (so it’s digitally preserved forever), and now I carry it with me wherever I go on my phone (using the drastic emulator). I don’t really play it, but it’s so incredibly nostalgic for me to look back at all my pokémon once in a blue moon, it’s a trip down memory lane for me. And that’s really it tbh, I have not played any of the newer pokémon titles past pokémon sun, and don’t really have any incentive to do so, because as you say, pokemon has lost its magic. There is so much potential for Nintendo to do something great with this series (especially with all the tech available today), but unfortunately their greed is too great. I actually stopped purchasing anything from Nintendo a while back, beyond just the pokemon series, I am disgusted with their business practises, and refuse to support them in any way. I don’t have much time to play games these days anyway (unfortunately), but if I want to check out Nintendo titles, I will gladly and proudly pirate them, because I no longer believe this company deserves anymore of my hard earned money. I think a major part of the issue is the pokemon fandom constantly rewarding them for their bad efforts. We vote with our wallets after all; if sword and shield was such a disappointment, why buy it?

In my experience fan's generally aren't asking for "release a new Pokémon now". If anything I tend to see people saying they should EXTEND their development time to get a good completed game out instead. Usually they just want confirmation that something is coming at all. Even with Legends coming up for example. Most people I see talking about it are hopeful and think it has potential, but are worried that it's only got one more year of development considering how the trailer was. As in: they would feel safer if it had more time before release to polish out issues. The "release a new game every year" is entirely The Pokémon Company's own decision because they tie the entirety of new merchandising waves to the Pokémon game's release. A new anime, new toys, new clothes, etc are all set to come out with the release of a "new pokemon game" as the spearhead. But that means if the release day is coming around and the game is blatantly unfinished, they just basically stitch up the loose ends, cut what they can't, and release whatever they had at the time. Because they *can't* delay it. They're not allowed to because that would involve delaying _everything._ Originally they would then just implement whatever they couldn't finish into the "third version" and/or Remake of that gen. But they do DLC now and, presumably due to pride, seem to refuse to update the base game with said DLC. (walking Pokémon implemented in DLC areas but not the base Wild Area for example.) Worse, historically "a new game every year" business models for series don't turn out very well quality-wise and lead to fan backlash and a general reputation for mediocrity. A lot of the complaints leveled at Pokémon now seem incredibly similar to those I've heard leveled at games like Madden or CoD in years past. "Soulless, greedy, full price graphics upgrades of the same game over and over" and such.

@Crispy-Chips3 жыл бұрын
@@bestplayerofalltime105 agreed. This is why the Legend of Zelda is thriving to. They usually make there games in a span of 2-5 years with some content in the middle. It's the same reason why Breath Of The Wild was such a hit. But because the development team had more time to develop, they were able to explore and come up with new ideas. But the pokemon games don't actually have the time to do it. And it's not just because Game freak doesn't have enough time, but they also make bad decisions when it comes to development. Sad news is there is no "well it's just your opinion" anymore. The employees have outlined in their complaints about the company exactly what we have been saying for years. and worse like not getting the proper funds and required materials to gain better skills because the higher ups are fine so long as they are getting the easy money of the current games. Their lack of care and skill is hurting everyone beneath them. (well except the creative teams who are mostly fine. it's the technical side that is suffering.) Yes time crunch is a problem but also one that they themselves set and the top brass are ok with. So while it's okay to have sympathy for those at the bottom who are just as tired of their shit as we are, it's also important to keep criticizing GF and TPCI as well as not buying the games anymore. Something people tried to tell the fandom as a whole ages ago. it might already be too late but verifying the truth from them directly was enough for me to want to try again.

Give jasmine a scizor and a skarmory as well as fortress Gym 7 my man pyrice could have gotten a sneasel replacing seel and add in a smoochum with lovely kiss who is annoying Gym 8 Has 2 Dragonair. I mean of lance has a charizard that resemblance a dragon, might as well give Clair An arbok who somehow is in the dragon egg group. Gyrados for her as well..and give her aerodactyl instead of lance While lance gets tyranitar It's not a dragon I know but neither is aerodactyl what's so ever. The yearly releases is definitely a problem with Pokemon since it means Game Freak can't put 100% of their workforce onto the new gen because they have DLC, Remakes or Spinoffs to work with ontop of other games that they develop. They made Giga Wreaker and Little Town Hero along side Sword and Sheild and that surely reduced the man power on Sword and Sheild.
@starlightgalaxy82863 жыл бұрын
They claimed to have some sort of burnout from having to make new Pokemon games constantly. But.....I think focusing on Pokemon is still much better than dividing your workforce to make what ends up as 2 mediocre games (Sw/Sh and Little Town Hero). I don't think Giga Wrecker and LTH even sold that much. Heck, LTH just disappeared from most people's mind after like, a month since release lol. Definitely wasn't worth it to make, should have just taken a more normal short break, then continue focusing on Pokemon. Although, TPC is the bigger culprit to blame in here, they were the ones who set the stupid yearly schedule. GF should have stood up to them and say "we can't do this, we'll quit making Pokemon and be content with making games we want to make, if you insist on yearly schedule". GF crews are the ones actually making the games that spearheaded all the merchandise, logically they should be the one with the most power here. If they refuse to make themselves available, the rest of TPC would have no games at all, instead of simply having to wait a bit more for new games. That means TPC would need to find new company to do it, which would be more time, effort, and money spent than if they simply agree to relax the schedule. Not to mention the new company they choose might refuse if they have to make a new game in just 1 year. When they contract a new company like with New Pokemon Snap being from Bamco, I don't think the contracting and the game making is done in just 1 year time. It must have been planned and discussed for at least 2 years. So in the end it would be the same waiting time as if they just let GF work on the games for 1 more year. I think TPC has no real option here besides agreeing to GF, if GF actually stands up to TPC. Problem is, GF higher ups seems to be too lazy to stand up to TPC.
@kirara49533 жыл бұрын
@@starlightgalaxy8286 You think that if GF stands up to TPC they're gonna sweat getting another developer? They can easily give the game to the second developer that's been there from the start, Creatures Inc. which entirely made the Poke Park games so they know Pokemon well enough to take the helm. The day TPC changes from GF is the day GF goes bankrupt, the only profitable series for them is Pokemon, everything else sells so bad they don't even sales reports.
@starlightgalaxy82863 жыл бұрын
@@kirara4953 it still takes time, money, and effort to make a new game even if they can quickly get a new developer. Not to mention the workforce needs time to get used to the system. Creatures' staffs aren't used to making games yearly just yet, not to mention the last time they developed a game, it's for Wii, not Switch. In the end, I think it's more profitable if TPC just stays with GF and give them a little bit more time, even just 1 more year would be good. Although yes, you're right that GF likely still wants the money from Pokemon because that's what most of their money comes from, which is why they don't want to stand up. It's a risk, one that I think GF can win depending on how they presented it, but it's obvious the higher ups definitely don't want to take the chance.

The thing about the remakes is that they are, for some players, their first experience with the region. I first played Blue version well into gen 3's run, and entirely skipped out on gen 2, so when I played Heart Gold I wasn't just playing another gen 4 game, or another johto game, but I was having an adventure in an entirely new region hot off the heels of the sinnoh games, and honestly, it was probably the best introduction to the johto region I could have asked for, and the ability to go from an entirely new (to me) region to the one I had only seen in 8-bit and rematch the kanto gym leaders was a... really unique sensation, one that I don't think was directly planned (I had played neither the gen 2 games, nor the kanto remakes), and one that I don't think I'll ever get from the series again. Also, I like just how seamlessly the gen 3 and 4 additions felt in HGSS. Abilities are always nice, but I love how the regional dex was expanded to include the evolutions that had been added in the meantime, and let's be honest, feraligatr and sneasel feel like they were released a couple gens too early given their typings and stat spreads, so it's nice that they have actual physical STABs (and sneasel got an evolution to boot). It just felt like "gold and silver if they were made with an extra two generations of hindsight", which is arguably what any remake should strive to be.

Almost no Nintendo games have voice acting, mainly because of their “name the player character” feature (Pokemon) or their desire to have the characters be reflections of the players (Animal Crossing). The times they have are usually for characters that have established names, and even then for every hit (Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus), there’s also a miss (Super Mario Sunshine and Metroid: Other M). The only reason Breath of the Wild was able to have the best of both worlds was because they just defaulted Link to being called Link, and because they wrote his character having a mental disorder in order to avoid having him talk - something I highly doubt they want to impose on a ten-year-old.

@@jumpyman9754 I'd argue Black and White was, as controversial as it is to say. @@christianmckee2116 it’s not linear at all. People who say that are just dumb. It had many optional routes and secrets. It also has many great replacements to the battle frontier.
@christianmckee21163 жыл бұрын
@@jumpyman9754 Linear in terms of story progression. While Platinum is technically the first game to be streamlined since it removed Diamond and Pearl's option to challenge gyms 3-5 in any order, Black and White is notable for locking half of the region into the post-game. Eastern Unova was post-game only for no real reason, and it's not like the Battle Zone from Sinnoh where it was seperate from the main region and made sense that way; it's just blocked off arbitrarily from the rest of the region it's connected to. There are definitely still great side areas like Lostlorn Forest, but the linearity was really noticeable due to the structure of the region. As for the Battle Frontier replacement, the PWT in Black 2 and White 2 you could argue was a good replacement, but Black and White had no really good replacement for the Frontier. The Battle Subway was nowhere near as good as a Frontier with multiple facilities and the Institute was essentially a mock battle simulator. Not to discredit you; these are just my observations.

And the people who never picked up other JRPG's are now also playing games that have advanced over the decades with good writing, more involved combat/mechanics, a unique set of mechanics or impressive level of immersion, more strategic gameplay in general, all games having more impressive graphics, etc. Those are the people sh*tting on Pokemon, the people who came back to a childhood i.p. and just realize they got a pitiful failure of an experience. Pure and uncorrupted classics that keep enduring in the collective consciousness of gamers because of the creativity and ingenuity of these past gaming companies. They left their mark and ended up leaving things on a high note. Not the case for Game Freak, as we have seen. Just look at how they cut corner in kanto in the cristal version, I was 13 at the time and I noticed things were way better in the yellow version. So many things were in the yellow version that wasn't in the crystal version, I felt the drop in quality even if it was produced with better graphics. Just look at how team rocket was awesome in yellow with the silph being so big and detailed, none of that in Crystal. Now I love Crystal because what you have today is so below standard it's obvious with a few exception sometimes. But look at how the league is portrayed in Yellow as you have to present your badges at each step, none of that in Crystal, the list goes on and on and on, each detail makes the games less good until you feel that version was a shadow compared the first version.

But even so you shouldn't be fine with it, because even then, the OPTION should be there. I usually also do my first playthrough with pokemon from that game, but there's a difference between knowing I can get my favorites over anytime afterwards, and knowing that someone cheapened out and couldn't be bothered to program it in so even if I wanted to I couldn't. Regardless of if you use the additional content or not, we shouldn't be fine with getting less content than before, for the same or more money than before. We used to have 800+ pokemon per game. We used to have good side activities like contests and post game battle areas, we used to still have acess to older gimmicks like Z-Moves and Mega evolutions. We used to have all of that stuff and more. And now they cut corners whereever they can, so they can sell SOME of it back as DLC or just not bring it back at all. That's not ok. The Pokémon Company has seemed like it hated the fanbase loooong before BDSP. Nintendo in general has zero respect for their audience and I can’t really blame them for it. They’ve become well aware that their fans will literally buy any first-party title regardless of quality, completeness, price, etc. and then violently defend it as a masterpiece. They’ve not only never been punished for their anti-consumer practices, they’re usually handsomely rewarded with every new game seemingly breaking some kind of new sales record. For a tentpole release like Sword and Shield, they wouldn’t risk charging $200+ dollars for the Complete Pokémon Experience™️ if they didn’t think they could get away with it. They got paid an additional $70 dollars per copy just to turn Breath of the Wild into a finished game six years after release and people have been calling it the Game of the Year since we even knew what the real title was. People always demonize the business practices of EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc. and that’s all 100% valid and has been discussed to death, but Nintendo is the one people should really be complaining about yet it’s almost always absent from those conversations. They get a free pass on things that any other company would be crucified for. Imagine if the Steam Deck or the PS5 released with hardware that was 10 years behind the modern standard. They would have been dead on arrival, yet Nintendo just announced today that it has no plans to drop the price of their six year old console with 10+ year old specs. And I saw people in the comments defending it…

It's not that it's 100% certain that they'll be *bad* games, but compared with how Pokemon has handled remakes in the past, it's impossible not to be underwhelmed by these entries. That part about hgss and oras building up from the main games of their generation is so spot on, and what makes them great remakes (or rather, reimaginings) to me personally. SPBD will be the first "mainline" games I'll be skipping entirely. Congrats to you if you enjoy them but they're not for me.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were working on both Sword and Shield and Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, thinking that Sword and Shield would be the final Pokemon game for the 3Ds and that Let's Go would hold people over on the Switch until they could work on and release the first mainline Pokemon game for the Switch. Then corporate came in and told them that they needed to make Sword and Shield available for the Switch because they were thinking of closing down services for the 3Ds and to have it ready within a year after Let's Go was released which would explain why Sword and Shield feels like a high end 3Ds game and a low end Switch game.

Pokemon is in a unique position no other franchise is in. In that, no matter how crappy their story is, PEOPLE WILL STILL BUY THE GAME, because it virtually has a monopoly on the concept of finding, collecting, and battling other monsters. So in that case, why don't they start experimenting with their storylines, add more depth, and put in a little dark concepts. Heck learn from Baldur's Gate 3 and maybe add the mechanic of choices altering the game. They don't have to copy that concept 1:1 cuz that will add a huge amount of additional work for the developers, but at least loosely borrow that concept. Here's an example of a storyline they could do, I'm giving this for FREE: Let's call the next generation Pokemon game: "POKEMON UPRISE and CONQUER" In this setting a new LEGENDARY pokemon has been artifically created with the intellect beyond any being on the planet. This new legendary pokemon learns the history of Mewtwo and decides to succeed where it failed. With it's extremely powerful telepathic powers it rallies almost all the Pokemons of the world to uprise against their human masters. 5 years have passed and the humans have lost the war and the roles have reversed with the humans subjugated by Pokemons and forced to kill each other just for their mere amusement. But small rag tag groups of human rebels along with some of their loyal Pokemon companions are scattered everywhere on the planet in an attempt to fight back. One of these rag tag rebels happens to be the son of the same scientist who created the powerful legendary pokemon that started this whole thing in the first place. He is secretly in the process to creating another legendary Pokemon powerful enough to counter the other legendary pokemon who is ruling the world. But inorder for this Legendary Pokemon to be completed, it needs the DNA of all the Pokemons in the Pokedex. So here is the concept: If you buy POKEMON UPRISE, you play as the human rebel and you take the initiative to beat the 8 Pokemon Generals to acquire the 8 badges that serves as the key to the Legendary Pokemon Rulers lair. IT IS OPTIONAL if you catch all the Pokemons in the pokedex that is required to complete the creation of the Legendary Pokemon who is destined to challenge the other Legendary Pokemon Ruler of the world. If you buy POKEMON CONQUER, you play as the human slave who has showcased amazing prowess in combat and because of this has gained the attention and been nominated along with 8 other human slaves by the Legendary Pokemon Ruler to play a game wherein you compete to see who will be the first to infiltrate, locate, and destroy ALL the human rebel camps. There can only be one winner, hence you are compelled to kill the other 8 human competitors. You also learn of the rebels plan to capture all the DNA of the pokemons to complete the Legendary Pokemon who is destined to challenge the Legendary Pokemon Ruler. You keep this knowledge a secret as you decipher whether you will disclose this to the Legendary Pokemon Ruler or steal the technology from the rebels to create your own legendary pokemon and use it to free yourself. IT IS OPTIONAL if you decide to capture all the Pokemons to complete the opposing Legendary Pokemon. See there you have it, interesting concepts and you still have the usual Pokemon trope of catching them all, beating 8 other bosses to become champion, and exclusive Legendaries But hey here's the END GAME twist. In POKEMON UPRISE after beating the Legendary Pokemon Ruler, you have gained absolute power and have the choice to free all the humans, OR take over as the new Ruler of the world. In POKEMON CONQUER, after wiping out all the rebels, you have the choice to continue your life as slave promoted to the Legendary Pokemon Ruler's most trusted pet, or join the rebellion and take down the Legendary Pokemon Ruler. So there you have it. They have nothing to lose if they take that risk cuz their franchise is already a sure money maker no matter what storyline they take. In fact, current POkemon fans will be impressed if they take the route I'm suggesting. Show less

I might be in the minority with this, but I think the Let's Go games started the downfall by accident. From everything I've heard, it was a great game, and added so many good features. But it also, again as far as I know, didn't have the national dex. So the implication could have been drawn that fans are okay with the lack of national dex because they were okay with it in Let's Go. However that doesn't defend how they've handled the SwSh DLCs. I think they had such a huge opportunity with finally being able to add DLC to pokemon games, bypassing the need for the rerelease version by being able to add that content afterwards. But it just doesn't feel like they took enough time with the base SwSh experience, which has caused the DLCs to become worse by proxy.

@amberanime2 жыл бұрын
@@Mantenner I also actualy dont mind a lack of national dex. The dex becomes bigger every time, and forcing the devs to include and animate ALL those pokemon means much less attention will go into actualy making those pokemon have great animations and feel more alive. The kanto dex works because it's just kanto. they made the mistake after to keep importing pokemon from old gends to new regions instead of just focusing on new fresh pokemon line ups for every game without any old pokemon around in the wild (maybe a few available for trade in game from travelers of other regions). The larger the dex gets, the more messy it becomes for them to include them all, the fewer interesting new pokemon we'll get as they will just rely on old fanfavorites. The less attention and time they will put in other things. There is really no need to clutter every pokemon game with all pokemon ever. They should change the formula to a dex of max 150 pokemon per game. And thats it for that game. In game anyway. For the story. Competitive should just get it's own game at this point where they do animate all pokemons and make them all available. But because they wont have to redo stuff for every gen, just add the new mons, they can be much more creative with it. They should split up the hardcore competitive players and the lets explore a world and experience the story and become champion players. They want very different things, and catering to both in the same game makes them clutterd and soulles because they cant properly focus or invest in either. fewer pokemon in a game is not a problem. They should keep doing that and make the ''catch them all'' only relevant within that game. not all games need to be connected. You can just make it that that dimension only has those mons. Anyway, people want everything all the time without realising the games will get more and more hollow the more and more they need to maintain for the sake of it. Like say the whole dex..including a shit ton of pokemon almost nobody uses anyway.
@Renegade76542 жыл бұрын
@@amberanime I agree with most of this but I do think 150 is too low. I think 500-650 would be way better, at least for the switch games. 150 is far too low for a series with almost 1000 Pokemon. I think what they should do is just cut out all the unpopular ones/the ones people don't like. Maybe run online surveys, and stuff like that to get a grasp on what the general consensus is and then get rid of the most common ones that occur.

I genuinely think Game Freak are still invested in this franchise, even if they are grossly incompetent. Just delaying the development cycle for one gen might see a great game come back instead of the rushed, barebones titles we have now. But Nintendo and TPCi will never compromise on cash for quality and as a result Game Freak will keep working under their cudgel, and never resolve the programming issues that force them to keep cutting content.

One thing in particular worth note is that Creatures Inc. was responsible for the creation of the 3d models in the 3d games but in sword and shield, they were dropped by gamefreak as a partner in which they now handle the modeling in house. Plus on top of Gamefreaks split attention with their own game, their production team was split in half on top of the 3d work also being cut in half as well. Though still isn't an excuse, gamefreak has only really had prior experience on handheld games where the switch functioned more like a console. Their team is relatively inexperienced I'm that regard so with nintendos mounting expectations, they are simply getting overwhelmed.

Yes this. The problem is the time frame, not the developers. It is impossible to turn sprites into 3d models in an open world game (meaning they can be seen from all angles instead of curated scenes like in Pokémon snap.) Doing this for almost 900 Pokémon would have consumed an incredible amount of time and resources. I’m sure the developers would love more generous time frames.

I think one aspect of Pokemon losing it's magic is the modern games simply being too easy. The constant handhelding, the lack of challenge from Gym leaders and even Elite four. Gen 6 was the biggest dissapointment for me personally, especially coming right after Gen 5 (the best in my opinion). Despite the Mega-evolutions, one good gimmick is not a game saved. And I never even made a full team of six in AS. There was never need for lack of challenge. Or finnished the story from the sheer boredom. While there is always the argument that in the end Pokemon is a childrens game, that should not be an excuse for a boring game. Try to remember when you were a kid, frustrated with a hard challenge of a Gym-battle, but the ammount of that sattisfaction after finally winning. Kids love to be challenged (hell, people of all ages do). And Pokemon company is not gonna reel in new generation of a long time fans from offering them games that are simply boring (while simultaniosly dissapointing older fans) and that's the biggest mark Pokemon's gonna leave them with.

It’s kinda unfortunate, because my childhood was literally embedded with Pokémon. I was first introduced to the series from a set of cards held together by a rubber band in preschool, a classmate giving me his Pokémon cards as a birthday gift. I remember thinking how cool charizard x was, how the galactic absol looked really neat. This eventually culminated in kindergarten, where my parents got me a ds lite and Pokémon ranger shadows of almia for getting straight A’s. I learned to read thanks to this game, it being the push to motivate me to really learn, something which has grown into a love for reading in general. I played my ranger game, i grew to love the game, soon convinced my parents to buy my first main game, soulsilver. I adored the game, not always knowing what I was doing, but I had my super cool typhosion with the awesome cry, and a nidorino I had no clue how to evolve but still absolutely loved the design of. So I played soulsilver, which soon grew to diamond, then mystery dungeon blue rescue team, explorers of time and sky, heartgold joining the roster, gen 5 finally coming out and there were suddenly all these cool new Pokémon! And their sprites constantly moved! And the story, it gave me just as many feelings as explorers of sky had! The sequels came, they were just as enjoyable as the first gen 5 games, ended up with all 4. From there the transition to 3D happened. Sure, x and y weren’t too memorable, but the mega evolution was really cool, and there were this entirely new type called fairy! I could find a new love for Pokémon I’ve never used before by getting it to try out it’s mega, or use old Pokémon retyped as fairy who were given new purpose with the typing. It’s was a bit unfortunate that they made a paywall to transfer Pokémon to the new generations, but I don’t need to transfer my old mons, I’ll just keep them in their old games. ORAS followed after, and while unbiased from the original gen 3 games, I found the remake a great time, just like I had hgss long before I knew they were remakes to begin with. The primal reversions made the legendaries look even cooler, the story was pretty neat, and the 3D look worked. I found out about shiny hunting with this game, tried it out on the first route and it worked, a golden poocheyena. Suddenly, I had this whole new aspect of Pokémon that I could explore, I quickly wanting to get a shiny rayquaza since I had a random person trade me one back in black and white when the services were still up; still one of the most exciting moments for me, even if it was probably hacked in retrospect. But then I noticed the first disappointment I’d had to the series, shinylock. Made to make event shinies worth more, I didn’t really see the point since I found more value in the shiny o worked for rather than got by driving to GameStop or buying something, but it’s whatever. Sun and moon soon came out, variant Pokémon were released and they were really cool! The lack of gym leaders was a change, maybe not something that I found too amazing but I could appreciate the attempt to get new things. The remakes of sun and moon followed the next year, and I’ve since then finished my play through of moon, and started doing shiny hunts and new play through of gen 4 and 5. I got the new game, tried playing, kept losing interest. Kept going back to my older games, where I had more time and love invested. The sword and shield debacle happened, and I honestly had to agree with the hate; why would I want these games that are so expensive and approve of the lack of quality, the massive cut in the dex that removed a large portion of my favorite Pokémon? That would lie to their fans’ faces and make excuses for something held so dearly by many only for the said excuse to be a bald faced lie? My parents ended up getting me the games regardless, my love for Pokémon having literally become a staple gift if someone wanted to get me a gift they knew I’d use. Then the dlc came out, and it honestly felt worse, here was a set of dlc that honestly could have fit as post game material, that they’re selling for $30. Thinking about major hit games like undertale, costing $10 and Persona 5 costing $20, these games cost wise have been deemed inferior to the dlc of Pokémon sword and shield. To find out they put some more Pokémon behind the paywall only felt like salt on the wound, the Pokémon they cut out for supposed design quality were back! …except the majority of them seemed to be the same as they were prior, so why weren’t they there from the start? At this point I’m officially turned off from the newer games, almost feeling ashamed to have gotten the sword and shield games at this point. Eventually the announcements came out for the new Pokémon games. And diamond pearl remake and a whole new game, one set in ancient sinnoh. The newest remakes I gave up on early on, the chibi style just not really appealing to me personally, but I wouldn’t treat that as a reason for the game to be completely ignored…only for the subsequent news and leaks all pointing towards a relatively identical copy of the original games, decent battle backgrounds, and a follow Pokémon mechanic that I love that apparently makes the game into easy mode…in this scenario, I’ll just stick to my old copy of diamond and send my Pokémon over to soulsilver if I want to have them follow me. Legends arceus is probably going to be my last ditch attempt at holding out for the game, though I personally wish they would set the release date back a bit so they can have more time to work on it. I really want the game to be a success, and I believe that extra time is what they really need to do this, just like Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild had with its 4 something year work time before being released. I am now 18 and have literally spent over a decade playing Pokémon…and I can’t say it doesn’t depress me to see this franchise, this integral part of my life all throughout childhood and teenagerdom, fall apart into what seems to be a money first passion second series. This doesn’t mean I still don’t cherish the series itself, as I do still love the older games of the series, but I cannot garner that feeling of excitement towards the future, the wonder of what the new games will hold. I personally find my fun nowadays through shiny hunting mainly, doing shiny play throughs of my old games as well as plan out how to get a living dex. As of now, I’d say my most memorable hunt would be my semi legit shiny darkrai I got through the void glitch, SR’ing only for him to pop up at 3 in the morning and me to subsequently panic while keeping track of his pp XD So I suppose what I’m trying to say is…even if the future of the games isn’t bright, make sure to not let that tarnish your love of the older games. This is my personal experience with Pokémon as I’ve grown up, and I’d like to think that it has played a similar role for many others as well.

Feel the same way, only I go back to the very beginning outside of Japan in 1998. Gens 1 and 2 were astoundingly excellent, and then they lost it completely Gen 3 and onward. I have since jettisoned everything Gen 3 and later and re-bought Gen 1 and 2 that are still great to this day.

I've begun to think lately... it might be possible that in the excitement of pokemon we all had this automatic belief that everyone else enjoyed the games in the same way we did.. but maybe the majority of players at least these days don't care about the same things... maybe most people never bothered to try for the dex, or never got into competitive, or never bothered with events or anything.. you have to realise as well that I guess for a lot of people pokemon go and let's go were their first ever experience of a Pokemon franchise.. So maybe we've been looking at the problem wrong.. maybe we don't all have to agree. Maybe that's the problem. Instead of trying to please everyone and failing, maybe they should just make separate games for us older folks.. and at the same time cater to the more casual majority. Nintendo and gamefreak are financial juggernaughts.. and they've certainly funded some terrible games nobodies ever heard of in the past... so they can definitely afford to take the chance on appealing to an aging and newer audience if they wanted to. It just seems were all caught up having to be right and define one thing that pokemon has to be.. maybe it can be a lot of things.

@@cpettigrew3072 Yikes, ACNH isn't much better. A lot nicer looking sure but it's plagued with issues of its own.

The only pokemon game that might bring back the nostalgia is the diamond and pearl remake.

You guys should try Monster Hunter Stories or the upcoming sequel, pretty much Monster Hunters take on a Pokemon like game, instead you have the monsters as companions
