Must be an interesting experience working on the ship in the middle of the ocean, especially at night. One big self contained (granted it'll never leave port without an escort fleet) city. Surrounded for miles upon miles of nothingness, but the ocean and the stars in the night sky.

Because it is the on call carrier, that is the most ready to deploy. Nothing to do with names, QE is named after the first Queen Elizabeth, the last ship of that name being a battleship that served in both world wars. Google not emojis are your friend.

Of course Russian Intelligence agents attended this “open house”, on board the POW, my friend. However, you short change the Royal Navy and other UK governmental intelligence agencies. There were no strategic or important tactical assets just sitting out waiting to be photographed by foreign agents or the public. What secrets the Russians know about POW or the QE came from open source professional publications or possibly intercepted electronic conversations and correspondence. Basically standard espionage work done by most countries to keep abreast of world events and information. The US Navy have “open house” on many of their ships, including carriers and amphibious assault ships, all around the world. These happen for various reasons mostly related to political requirements. What ever the intelligence agencies of potential opponents know about RN and USN ships and their capabilities, they did not learn anything from this or other ship “open houses” they did not already know.

Why would she need jets embarked when alongside? Also, the ship has been up at the ammunitioning jetty at Glen Mallan in Scotland where she was tied up for a few days prior to coming to Liverpool. There is currently no requirement to have F35B Lightnings onboard because the ship is not on exercise and not on deployment. Next Year, after Christmas, the ship will take part in exercises including intensive flying operations in preparation for the upcoming deployment to the Med, Red Sea, Gulf, Indian Ocean and South China Sea. ⚓

@@joginns778 Sure about that? Ever heard of the USS Ford? Also a brand new design though unlike the QE class, not the largest ever built for their navy. And the US, unlike the UK, did not have a gap lasting decades between carriers being built. Both though included a lot of new technologies. Of course for real horror stories there are the Russians.
