Not falling for this again. I had a 1973 Topps Dick Butkus on my COMC watch list and I immediately bought before I watched this video. Got to watch out for the Mangini pump with these cards. ;)

Like #32, Franco Harris! Always loved the 73' football. Harris rc!, Ham rc! Very under-rated set if you ask me, tons of great players in this set. Always thought the same with the "rookie card" and Hunter was a good show and his partner was pretty easy on the eyes as well 😁Brings back some great memories watching it with my granny who was a huge Football and Baseball fan and probably inspired me more than my own father with sports. Loved the video and stories told, Thanks for sharing John and happy birthday to the wife, enjoy 👍👍 and ✌out

That Butkus is incredible! I didn’t know Topps did horizontal cards in 1973. I collected a bit that year but don’t remember that card. I now have the Lions team set and they’re all vertical cards, I believe. Seeing these cards, whether I remember them all or not, takes me back to fifth grade.
@billkhan37893 ай бұрын
And as I go along through the video, my favorite player who wasn't a Lion - maybe my favorite player, period - Larry Freakin' Csonka - got a horizontal card!!! I may have to pick that up just for fun. I'm typically a team set guy, but that would be a fun card for which to make an exception.

Gave a video like. I didn't realize Ken Stabler was a HOFer. Fun that his nickname was Snake. Reminds me of Jake Plummer being called Jake the Snake. Love Jack Ham, my favorite OLB. Didn't know that about Tom Dempsey, they made a rule after him. So many great cards in the '73 set.

Jack Ham is actually tied for 3rd for interceptions from a linebacker with 32, behind Don Shinnick and Stan White, and tied with Lee Roy Jordan and Nick Buoniconti...although he did play a few less games than the two he's tied with. Great player, and I love that 1973 set.

Those are some of my favorite action shots from one fine football set John. I first started collecting around this time and I remember seeing those sweet action shots from actual games and thought they were the best. I was irritated if a player I liked had a stupid, no helmet Sears portrait shot for his card. As you know I lived in Danville, Ca. from ‘75-‘81 & a lot of the Raiders lived in my neighborhood near the Crow Canyon C.C. Mr.Mike Siani also owned the liquor store at the Safeway Shopping Center & we would go there to meet players and get autographs! Ahhh the ‘70’s, what a time to grow up. I was also at the Patriots preseason game in ‘78, my dad had season tickets through his company (Shaklee), where Jack Tatum hit Darrell Stingley and paralyzed him. Great 1973 Topps football show & tell.

I would trade it to grow up in any other era. It was perfect.
