It is so refreshing to see that the construction of new steam locomotives is still being done. I think the world needs more and more of these magnificent steam machines either restored or built from scratch, as in this case. Well done!

It's good to see how well these projects go forward, and thanks for showing us. And while it is an interesting subject, your camera work and sound editing has room for improvement. In this video the camera never stops moving around and makes it impossible to fully appreciate the details on said locomotives. The video starts with an intro which almost explodes your speakers, and then you start talking and it is nearly inaudible. The problem is not in your knowledge or presentation, these are good, it's purely the technical side of making videos where it lacks. Make you camera work a bit more steady, by holding a frame for at least 5 seconds and make use of a tripod where applicable. Use the function in your editing software to equalize sound levels of separate cuts of your video, if your camera has an external microphone input you could use an external mike so that you can always hold it in the direction of your own face or the interviewed person when talking, it prevents the sound falling down when you point your camera away from the speech being recorded.

It's not nice. We should be cutting up steam locos, not building more. This is due to carbon dioxide pollution causing global warming climate change. We have to stop burning coal now!

In terms of cost, it is cheaper to build new than constantly restoring and repair the likes of flying scotsman. There is a market for steam powered excursions and, I suspect in the future a strategic need as well.

As a Canadian l would like to say cheers to the poeple in the U.K. who are building previously extinct steam locomotives from scratch. I hope it inspires similar action here in North America. I think that it's sickening that none of the J-3 Hudson (4-6-4) locomotives that powered the New York Central 's famous 20th Century Ltd from New York to Chicago at speeds claimed to be 123 m.p.h., were preserved, not to mention many other great steam locomotives in North America.

Great video, really interesting. A little spoilt by your camera not being able to hold focus, could do with some image stabilisation and the sound was a bit dodgy in places. The internet is a better place with it though so good work 👍

This is a very interesting and informative glimpse at these projects. All they need is more and continuing financial support to enable their completion in reasonable time, slow income means means slow finish. Hopefully there will be further open events. It is only a shame that some of this information is not quite right.

I liked your video but there are a couple of points that would have made it better. When ever you pointed whatever you were using as a camera at something your commentary faded so much that I couldn't tell what you were saying. Also, I hope you made a note of how everyone else pronounced the name "Hengist".

Oh yes, they are popping up alright, even across the pond in the US, with the Pennsylvania Railroad T1 duplex locomotive 5550 project nearly halfway complete (with ambitions for it to exceed Mallard's long-standing (and much maligned, as far as many American steam fans view it) speed record).

secondary to this, there were sections when you were interviewing John from the clan project where you didn't keep the mic pointing at him, so the audio was quiet patchy. Sound can be just as important as video

I think whoever edited this video needs to learn a few things. Your intro scene in the first few seconds was deafeningly loud, but then you talking afterwards is almost inaudibly quiet. Still interesting content, even if I couldn't hear what people were saying a lot of the time.

I still can't understand why anyone would spend countless years and millions of £££s building "Hengist" when the Clans were one of the least successful of BR's standard designs and disliked by their crews wherever they worked.
@spankflaps1365 Жыл бұрын
They’ll do modifications during construction, that fixes the problems. It was either Britannia, Cromwell or DOG that had steaming issues fettled in preservation during an overhaul. Also the P2 under construction has had it’s original running problems designed out. They had all the data, so the problems could be identified and rectified in computer modelling.
