I was in Nashville ~4 years ago and ended up going to a Preds game. Not only was I taken aback by how much Nashville as a whole seems to love the team, but I went to a preseason game so I wasn’t sure what the environment would be like. It was an absolute zoo and the crowd lost their mind when Matt Duchene made his debut as a Predator.

He's the all-time winningest GM in NHL history, and if he's not in the HOF it's criminal, cup or no. We were lucky to have him as our first GM and for so long, you don't see that kind of stability much in pro sports any more. However, it was time for him to go. No one can argue he was great at finding great Goaltenders and Defensemen, but he's never been able to find or develop elite offense. After 2018 season, we've gotten worse and bounced earlier every season, and this year doesn't appear it's going to deviate from that, even before all the trades this week. What he accomplished here is admirable and highly respected, but it's time for a change. Can Trotz take us to the next level? Time will tell, but at least he has a cup (not that it matters since it wasn't with Nashville).

winningest doesn't mean shit if you just hang on for 3x longer than every other GM. He traded away the best d in the league to stack our team with over 14 natural centers at one point. How many 1 and out post-seasons did we have under Poile. He refused to dive into a rebuild after 2018 and our team has floundered since then. Hopefully Trotz can pick up the pieces of the team but his #1 scouting metric will probably be who can play dump and chase the best.

@@lobsterwithcrabs You mean the Jones for Johansen trade or which one? Cant be the Weber-Subban trade. Cant think of any others where top Dmen were involved. The Jones-Johansen trade I'd say the Preds won, even though Johansen didnt become that true big no.1 centreman, hes been mostly solid in Nashville.

Craig Laughlin has been the color analyst for Caps game since just after he retired. That's 30 years+. He still lives in the same house he had as a player. I used to work at a store near a car wash co-owned by Laughlin. So, I deadpan asked him, "What's it feel like to know that Langway was the throw in in that trade?" Craig Laughlin just laughed out loud. He's a super nice guy.

David Poile did an incredible job for the Pred's, and helped create a hockey market & team that made me fall in love with the sport. Congrats on a very successful & full career. I hope retirement treats David and his family well. with that said I am so excited for the future.. the Preds lost last night and I had the most fun watching the team last night then this entire season. Luke Evangelistas first game was idk a breath of fresh air. Seeing the Youth taking the ice.. moving further away from the 2017 core.

He might not have that cup on his resume, but he's a damn good GM. There's a lot that goes into drafting, the scouts did their jobs too but keeping the Preds in Nashville and pretty damn good on the ice is a win especially in a place where you wouldn't think it would be a traditional hockey market. The great Defense he's put together over the years is unprecedented.

The Subban-Weber trade continues to pay-out for both teams. I thought what Nashville got when they traded Subban was way more than what he was worth, which kinda made Nashville come out on top, but now that Montreal traded Weber's contract for Dadonov and now get Gurianov in return, it may end up being the gift that keeps on giving for a while.

It's really a shame that Poile will never get his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, considering the work he had done in Washington and Nashville. With the Capitals, Poile literally saved this team by acquiring Rod Langway, whose presence eventually turned the Capitals from a perennial laughing stock to a contender. In Nashville, this team literally had to start from scratch, since Tennessee never exactly had a hockey culture to build off of. Safe to say that today, the Predators are embraced as part of the city's community. If there is some kind of long term achievement award in the NHL, there is no doubt Poile gets my vote (even if part of it is for sentimental reasons, being the former Capitals GM).
