Some are calling this a vanity project. But actually I see it a bit different. Today my own City incorporates about 43 square miles. Along with the population density of about 3,200 per square mile. With a population increase of about 6% a year. Not terrible but not great either. One of the factors that is contributing to our micro slow growth. Is the fact that we are a hundred year old city built on hundred-year-old infrastructure. We are a small city carrying 6 lane traffic!! Which was designed for 2 lane horse carriages lol. We didn't plan enough in our early days. To start incorporating that into the city's growth forecast. Larger cities, like New York, Chicago, have similar problems. But in their case they aren't physically growing just getting more populated. Cairo's problems are magnified 10 times over. In that it's a centuries Old City. Which is built on centuries-old infrastructure. There's very little to gain there in terms of growth & investment. It just makes more sense to start over. Cairos new capital city has a rare opportunity here. :)

@wjdonner
@wjdonner 5 жыл бұрын
@Capitan Barbosa , the debts have to be payed with taxes, like taxes on wages, on sales, on property etc. As long as property prices are kept within reasonable range people may buy or rent. Enough commercial activity must be allowed and infrastructure must be good as well. This will generate more taxes. The city is a center of government so many nations may want to relocate their embassies and many investors, local and foreign, may want to be close to the financial services offered in the city.

We are working together to strengthen Egypt and give Egyptians a framework so that they will have the tools they need to prosper. It is not easy and it doesn't happen overnight, but soon bit by bit individuals will start to see personal improvements in their own status. Keep in mind that there are millions of people in Egypt, and until now many things have not been modernized due to many factors and it remained in this condition for a very long time. The task is daunting but do not worry there are many Nations making changes that will allow them to make the necessary investments that will lead to prosperity. If we can have everyone Unite as Egyptians and end some of the infighting and prejudices between different groups it would help very much and make our work go faster.

There was a lot of information purposefully left out, the city has designated places where those who live under the poverty line are meant to take free housing with all the previously mentioned amenities, that's not to mention the other housing units being built corresponding to this that are given out to the public who can't afford them at random. The investment in the capital city is not coming from public funds or mysterious companies as well, the investment is coming from the benefits that any company would have simply because as the land grows in prosperity the prices of the land grow and as such they make profits on the long run, it's simple and it's wonderful, it doesn't take much money from the country's own national funding but yields a whole capital as a result. One last point that I believe is important that was left out is that more than 5% (we're 100 million citizens so that's more than 5 million people) are government workers and they have their own buildings assigned to them for free as the government is going to move its headquarters to the capital. By the end of the project more than 6 million citizens would have free housing, those who lived under the poverty line with improper housing would have stable housing and so would government workers, that's not to mention the housing which will be offered to the market, this *is* a wonderful project, it's rapidly growing and not taking a toll on the public national funding as opposed to what was implied in the video

Where 88% of the Egyptians earn between 1000-2500 EGP per month! I have been there myself and asked the about the cost! But, I’m proud of my country that they are now very focused on developing huge projects in a short time.

this is a failed project since it will give rise to extreme inflation, are there any economists thinking about this? the economic situation in egypt in terms of the value of the Egyptian Pound is drastically in ruin, projects like these push the inflation further and aren't worthy in the long run

Waste of money!! For what to they need this need this city to seperate poor from rich. This massive price label can be used to help solving more important issues in egypt, like education, pauverty etc. Or make current cities more better livable where the average egyptian can benefit from. Really why do they need this! Ask yourself no added value. New place for politics, why they csn use their current buildings. Only more money and nicer place for elite
