Bloody hell, I remember my Dad taking me to a little game shop when I was a kid, he bought me E-swat and himself pro Boxing simulated (both on C64), that was the only time my Dad bought himself a game. Seeing it being played bought back lots of memories of my late Dad, almost bought a tear to my eye, but in a good way. Thanks for this Kim, I've rediscovered a lost memory of my Dad because of you, probably the best thing you could do for someone. Cheers

Decades later we have Goat Simulator, Shower with your Dad Simulator, Grass Simulator... ain't progress grand? :P It's interesting that 'Simulator' still denotes cheap, often nasty but sometimes cool games pumped out by bedroom developers.
@Jayfive2768 жыл бұрын
Um...those modern games are all named in a tongue in cheek way. If you look all of these modern 'simulator' games the artwork, font etc parodies the Microsoft Flight Sim games. The codemasters games were not tongue in cheek. I don't think anyone was promoting Goat Simulator as a realistic portrayal of being a goat. As opposed to the blurb on the box of the old Codies games...
@DodderingOldMan8 жыл бұрын
Jayfive276 Yes, I know, and I don't think I said anything that contradicts what you've written. That said, while the Codemasters games may not necessarily have been tongue in cheek, even by the standards of the day they clearly used the word 'Simulator' pretty loosely.

There are serious simulator games with the Simulator moniker too. Like American Truck Simulator.
@duffman186 жыл бұрын
Farming simulators are enormous in Germany. They take it really seriously. You can get controllers that are the size and have all the buttons and levers of an actual tractor control console. So they can realistically simulate a tractor. And they spend thousands of DLC for new tractors. I'm not kidding.

Yeah I had their games for both my Amstrad CPC and Sinclair ZX Spectrum, but the CPC ones were better in my opinion, even if only graphically. My C64 owning friend was absolutely hopeless at playing Pro Ski Sim on my CPC, whereas I could get a long way in it, and usually without the course scrolling me out of view.
@IanWitts8 жыл бұрын
I think that Grand Prix on the CPC was the best version by far (even though I was a Speccy guy). My friend had it, but the rectangular cars just felt better controlled and clearer on the Amstrad. We called the orange car 'the sausage' for some reason.

I'm glad you at least discuss them . Some of them look so basic that I might even be able to code one in mysleep and I do not do know how to do it. These games look about has hard to code as it is to edit a video in Windows Movie Maker.

A very nice trip down memory lane. I supported Codemasters by buying every game they made for my various computers over the years. I did enjoy some of the games you have shown, on my old speccy etc. One thing stuck in my craw with Codemasters though as the years paced by. When i reached the age of emulation at first in those early years, i could well understand the impact that using software that you had not purchased in emulators, may have repercussions on the industry. But Codemasters stance right up to today is to not allow their games to be played legally on emulators of such old computers like the ZX Spectrum etc. You can buy a digital version of games for the speccy from Codemasters on CD, but really why not allow those games to live again for those young gamers who never even saw a ZX Spectru. Many, many other software games manufacturers of yesteryear actually are happy to let their games be played on emulators. I would not buy any game now or in the future that is made by Codemasters after them having such a huge amount of money spent on their old games,

Pro Ski sim better then Pro Skate ? I have to respectfully disagree. Just to refresh my mind, I played them all this morning and I came to realize, that Pro Skate has the tightest control of them all ! Once you get the hang of it that is... I've seen a couple of other videos bashing this game recently, and mostly coming from people who don't have any clue on how to play this game ( tip:there is a 180 degree brake and turn button, essential ) . I'm by all means not a skilled player, but I manage to finish it or come very close to the end with the stock 3 lives in this game, while some others get you game over in a few seconds. The speed, the pounding music, the graphic, the tight controls, Professional Skateboard Simulator has it all and it's a blast to play it even today ( in fact I'm going back playing it right now ) 🙌🏼👍🏼
