In the show Friends, Phoebe is a surrogate for her brother, Frank Jr., and gives birth to his triplets. The triplets show up a few times thoughout the series. One of the episodes, when the triplets have grown into kids, Frank Jr. visits Phoebe and is clearly stressed and overwhelmed by having three kids, and tells Pheobe she has to take one of them. Three is too much. So, Phoebe asks which one he'd want her to take, and goes one by one through them. Each time, Frank is like, "no, not that one, they're special in this specific way, I can't give up that one." Idk, I think it's nice that they showed how difficult it is to raise triplets but also showed how Frank Jr still loves all three kids and wouldn't get rid of any of them. They're not main characters so we don't see much of them, but the bit we do see is good I think

My aunt and uncle had a set of twin boys, followed by a set of triplet girls 8 years later. They did seem to experience quite a bit of multiples stereotyping as kids but eventually they broke out of it, with each of them finding their own interests and styles. Example: My aunt would purchase the same outfits for each set of kids, but each kid had different assigned colors, so everyone knew which kid was which. Unsurprisingly those colors did not end up being each kid's favorite color. The twins were assigned red and blue until they were old enough to pick out clothes they liked. The boy assigned with red actually really likes green and wore a lot of neon colors and sports wear in high school. The boy assigned to Blue turned out to really likes black and red (he's like a super-muscled guy who's into heavy metal music) but doesn't go into a full alternative-style since his job requires him to not have piercings/chains/loose clothing/long hair. The triplets were assigned Orange, Green and Purple, but I've since forgotten who was assigned to each color. Now they wear different styles(and colors) They're also going to a technical school and each study different subjects: one is studying Childcare+education, another Animal Health(to become a Vet technician) and the other Graphic Design.

If I had multiples I would assign each a grouping of colors until they were old enough to completely dress themselves. One baby might be warm colors, another might be cool colors. And it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to switch colors, since they'd be more used to seeing the other sibling's colors more than their own and might think they'd look better in their sibling's colors.

My sister and I aren't twins but we were born a year apart and people often mistook us for twins. When we were growing up my mom dressed us the same and we each had a color assigned to us as well. @@misstressfoxtail05 we had three under three, not triplets. The reason they all had often the same clothes with different colours assigned, was for simplicity. Made shopping easier. Made it easier to find each child's clothes in a hurry. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: stopped the fighting. As soon as they were able to communicate it they would start to fight about clothes and cry if they had to wear something different from one of their siblings. 😅 🤷🏻 Just from a parent's perspective. The reason was never that we didn't see each as their own person (and I assume it would have been the same if they were triplets, but who knows. 🤷🏻). I'm an identical twin, growing up people were really enthusiastic about the fact that we enjoyed dressing alike because apparently it's very strange for twins to get along as well as we do... I don't know if it's just confirmation bias or what but I guess the impression people get with twins is that they tend to hate each other. My twin was my best friend all my life, and it wasn't until adulthood that we started to develop different fashion senses and such. Though our personalities were always pretty different. My twin is more of a tomboy and likes more technical subjects and taking on challenges, while I have always been the more girly creative one who just likes to make things and create art. I'm also pretty much obsessed with dinosaurs, it's like my autistic special interest, whereas my twin is more into single-player video games, especially JRPGs. We are about to actually split up for the first time in our lives really soon at the age of 29. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with our bunk bed now that one of the bunks will be empty. But yeah we always got the questions about being psychic or finishing each other's sentences, or which one of us is the evil one. I never really found it annoying like others might have, it always seemed like good fun to me, especially if we played along. One question I frequently got asked was "If I hit one of you, will the other feel it?" and I always responded with "No, but you will."

I'm a twin too, although not identical. Me and my sister are besties- We have a lot of the same interests and obssessions, but we also have a lot of different aspects. Idk if it's a cultural thing from country to country, because people never asked us wich one was evil or if he read eachother's minds- But other people did ask "So that means your birthday is on the same day?" - "Do you wear similiar clothes?" - "Omg your voice looks exactly the same I can't reconize!!!" DUDE I find it so annoying when people refers to us as "The twins" or when they want to call out of me or my sister, they'd say "Hey twin girl see this-" Or "Twins, over here!" Three years into high school and some of my classmates didn't even bother to remember our names. Both me and my sister never interact with them- But still, I remembered all their names and they can't even call out to us as our own individuals? I feel like we are treated as one object rather than our own selves. My sister isn't me and I am not her. Period. I feel like they see us as those stereotypical twins we always see in media, that their whole personality is being twins -_- Heck, my aunt, who didn't see us since we were like FIVE remembered our names and could tell us apart easily. And we didn't even see her that much. Speaking of twins in media- Since I was a kid I've always been so annoyed how they were represented. Like for example- Twins in the Barbie Movies, they finished each others phrases and it made me annoyed. Me and sis tried copying that, but we soon realized. "This is so dumb. Who even talks like that???" But the sync is true though, lol. We often speak the same phrases unitentionally. Our thinking is very alike- Although by twin is a bit more grumpy and organized than I am. Sure she is a sweetheart, but she's so serious looking people tend out to talk to me a lot more. She's also more emotional than I am, yet tends to take the lead in a lot of things. She's also pretty girly and a horsegirl by heart. (She had a dinausor phase too!) I guess I am the twin who's stronger with most stuff, yet more lazy and less worried about life itself. Also the most outgoing one. I guess it makes sense, since I'm the eldest and I can be overprotective over my sister. I might be talking too much but yeah- I love seeing twins represented in midia, and I almost immediatly get attached to them as characters (Unless they are annoying and stereotypical.) But I also get a soft-spot for a duo of sibilings, like the Elric brothers from Fullmetal Alchesmist, the twins from the Story of Evil vocaloid- Or not even sibilings, like Barbie movies such as Princess and the pauper and Diamond castle (Barbie and her friend though, not the twin love interests. Ugh.), wich me and my sister pretended to be them all the time when we were little. Overall: Can relate to you, except than I'm way younger (18) and still have a lot to mature before I grow apart from my sister. I actually hadn't taken the "bimbettes" from the original animated Beauty and the Beast to be triplets. I'd thought they were friends who were collaboratively competing for Gaston's affections, and the reason they looked so similar was that they were all trying their hardest to meet their agreed upon ideal of female beauty, in order to win Gaston over. So they look virtually identical because they have obsessed over physical beauty to the point of sacrificing their individual identities. On a different note, I think some of the problems brought up here are experienced by siblings in general. I remember growing up my sister and I were frequently compared and contrasted, and put into categories like "she's the one who's good with music" or "she's the bookish one," and we're more than a year apart in age. Some of our friends who also had close siblings were the same. Even our younger siblings though, who are 5 and 10 years younger, have had things pointed out like "your big sister [name] was just like that at your age" or "you all do this, it must be a family trait." I don't have any personal experience with twins or triplets, but from how much more frequently it happened with my closest sister than with my younger brother and baby sister I imagine it happens most frequently with actual multiples, so it stands out more. But you aren't alone!
@wyverntail18113 ай бұрын
I thought the exact same thing too about the girls from beauty and the beast since I'd witness the same thing happening to other girls back in high school. At least I assumed that was the reason so many girls at my high school did their hair the same, dressed the same, wore the same makeup, etc.
@Littlepup933 ай бұрын
Same, also the remark about parents not necessarily having time for you if you have a same age sibling. The way it was worded made it sound like if you had siblings of different ages, then that was somehow going to mean your parents have more time. I'd argue the opposite, especially if your siblings are staggered enough to be going to separate schools like mine are. When I was in junior high, my older brother was in high school and my youngest sibling was in elementary school. That's hard to juggle for a stay at home mom. At least when you're in the same school, the schedules for major events don't tend to conflict. However, it's way more likely for a parent to miss something big of yours because of a different aged sibling, whether it be other events, appointments, or any number of things. They are juggling multiple kids at wildly different developmental stages, and with each subsequent kid, they get more and more relaxed in their parenting because milestones are less novel.

This was video was really entertaining and well made. Thank you! I know my powerpuff girl lore. And I can assure you that 1) you have the right names and 2) they are undoubtedly triplets. One of the reason I love them so much is that those things you talked about at earlier in the video about how parenting triplets is hard and that trying to fit siblings into neat little boxes fosters unhealthy competition GET ADDRESSED! Like, there'a a whole episode where Blossom spontaneously develops a new power that the others don't have, and it really bothers Bubbles and Buttercup, especially when everyone starts giving Blossom extra attention for it. And their dad isn't really sure how to address it because he wants to encourage Blossom's talents but he doesn't want the other girls to feel left out. I'm going to argue that the reason they're always together in this show has a lot less to do with them being triplets and a lot more to do with them being around 6 years old and also a superhero team. Think of another show with a superhero team, and think about how much time you get to see the team away from each other. There's a lot of IMPLIED alone time, but not much is actually shown because that's not what the show is about. Now think about how much time you spent apart from your family when you were 6. Literally the only thing I can think of for me is school, and the powerpuff girls are all in the same class, so they don't get that outlet. They're as separate as they can reasonably be expected to be for that age. Blossom spends time alone reading. Bubbles runs off to play with animals by herself. Buttercup beats up bad guys on her own sometimes. They're just also only like 6. But in general yeah, we need more "multiple birth kids are separate people who spend plenty of time away from each other" in media. Not a multiple birth, but I know several and I usually meet them by becoming friends with one and meeting their siblings much much later.

What's funny about you comparing twins/triplets/quadruplets to single birth siblings is that it reminds me also how common in general it is for parents to have siblings dress very similar. My younger brother is 13 months and 5 days younger than me. Our entire childhood involved people buying us identical toys, identical clothes, etc. If one of us got something the other got the exact same thing. We did not look related, to a point where classmates thought we were a lesbian couple because we hung out 24/7. The entire situation drove me BONKERS. Have you heard of the Chipettes? They don’t get a ton of screentime in the movies, but in the 80s Alvin and the Chipmunks show and the 2015 reboot their different personalities really shine. On the surface, it seems like they each mirror one of the chipmunks, but they really only have a little in common with them and are still pretty different. Unfortunately, as is common with girl characters, the Chipettes were a little sexualized in the 80s (most notably in the movie based on the 80s cartoon) The 2015 reboot averts this though! (But I still think Eleanor deserved more screentime) Also the Chipmunks do get reduced to “the troublemaker” and “the cute one” and “the smart one” in the movies, but the TV series gives them a LOT more depth.

This is confirmed in the episode. I’m pretty sure Buttercup is the least favorite as a professor. Looks like he pay attention more to bubbles and blossom as well. But most people don’t know their triplets cause how different they are from each other which that’s the point they’re supposed to show triplets are different each other. Twin here! The amount of one dimensional portrayal of twins (and other pairs of same day siblings like triplets) have ALWAYS made me irritated. I grew up being compared to my twin all the time, while also being under the assumption that I’m just like them. We had the same clothes, same hair, same friends, same toys, same EVERYTHING. As we grew older we molded into more of our own people but, the idea that we were inseparable or two of one whole made things REALLY hard for me and damn did the shows and movies I watch not make it ANY easier. As of now, as an adult, I struggle with independence, identity issues, and severe imposter syndrome. Twins are people with their own identity and future. We just happen to be born on the same day. And failure to properly communicate that, has deeper consequences than you might think

There’s actually been studies done about family resources (physical objects like toys and books, monetary resources, and finite resources such as parental time and attention) and you’re 100% right that kids who are really close in age have less resources than kids who are further apart in age. A family with three kids all 4 years apart is going to have a very different draw on resources than a family with 3 kids only 1 year apart, despite having the same number of children - and it can/does result in negative consequences for the kids. While I agree that the Bimbettes aren't good representation for triplets, I don't think the movie treats them badly. Nothing bad happens to them, no one is mean to them, and they're never portrayed especially negatively except for having questionable taste in men. In fact, they're a pretty good representation of the town as a whole. All the people there value conformity and are easily taken in by Gaston's fake charms. I think one of the major reasons behind sets of multiples always being shown as hanging out together, especially when young, is whether they have siblings or playmates of similar age. If the family only has the one set of siblings (the multiples), or their siblings have a significant age gap, then it’s pretty natural for the multiples to play with each other all the time because they essentially have no one else to play with. You tend to see it a lot less in situations where the multiples go to a busy school everyday or live in a neighborhood with a lot of children of similar age range, because they have a lot more options outside their own siblings. Similar clothes, or even the same clothes, has historically been down to economics and ease of getting ready in the morning: it’s a lot cheaper and easier to buy multiples of the same outfit than to buy (or make) entirely different wardrobes for each triplet/twin, and easily interchangeable wardrobes means you don’t have to worry as much about grabbing the wrong item when you’re trying to wrangle two or more energetic toddlers in the morning.
@SavannahPhillipss3 ай бұрын
Interesting, thanks for your input! I didn’t play with my sisters that often growing up - because we were so different! Agree it defo depends on the environment :-) And yes defo there are historical reasons for wearing the same clothes, and practical reasons too - but when you’re a multiple and a child it definitely feels like a lack of consideration to your personality and preferences (fairly or unfairly to the poor parent(s)!)
@rekkariley6523 ай бұрын
@@SavannahPhillipss Yeah, I think the clothing issue falls under the “Parents are People” category, where both perspectives are pretty much equally correct. The child is valid for feeling a bit overlooked, and the parent is also valid for feeling overwhelmed.

I Disney’s defense with the triplets from Brave they toddlers and princes so they are very likely to be together a lot because they are going have things like lessons together and it’s very unlikely they will interact with other kids often. Also with them being toddlers they are going to have similar personalities at first but as they get older they develop more separate personalities.
@SandDollarDragonfly-rw5ze3 ай бұрын
Toddlers actually have very distinct personalities from each other - you can tell aspects of a baby's character even at 5 months, whether they're chill or dramatic, their likes and dislikes & interests with things in their baby worlds (mobiles and toys that some kids couldn't care less about even when they've got the motor skills to play with them but other kids are obsessed with). So definitely by the princes ages you'd see some differences in personality.

Same noses same eye color (brown) but that’s it. We don’t look like siblings, we look like friends, we tell people we are triplets they think we are joking, one time a girl thought we joking about being triplets for a year. So technically we are tomboy, girly, and pretty. But no one has ever put us in categories sooo, maybe it’s different in the U.S then the UK but yeah. Being a triplet is fine, I guess? In ye olden show, they often even speak at the same time, acting more like a single three bodied hivemind character than siblings. In the 2017 show, they each are fully fledged characters in their own right. Even their designs reflect this divide. While the old ones were just recolors of each other, the new designs are easy to tell apart.

Someone else already mentioned this but Ducktales 2017 does a LOT better at differentiating the Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Most times it doesn't even come up that they're specifically triplets, they're treated like normal siblings. An episode that comes to mind is one where Dewey comes up with an "only child day" where he and his brothers each pretend to be only children for a day (Although Huey actually kinda hates the idea, he's kinda forced to go with it). They all have they're own personalities that aren't reduced to a single attribute and they often times get episodes all to themselves without their brothers. It also really shows how stressful it is raising triplets, especially for poor Donald who had to raise them from birth (hatching) completely alone since his sister, well I won't spoil it but basically she was out of the picture when they still eggs. He's insanely overprotective (for good reason) and really tries his best with all three of them, although I think Dewey kinda gets the least amount of attention like you mentioned, which kinda explains his acting out. The show is so so good and I definitely recommend it! If you watch it I'd love to hear your thoughts of the portrayal!

Huey, Dewey and Louie from the original cartoons were very much copies of each other, The 90s cartoon series Quack Pack started by giving them distinct personalities and aged them up to teenagers. Then Ducktales got rebooted in 2017 and they all got focused episodes about each of them individually about their own interests and passions. They became more of the focus than the adults in the reboot as well. You might want to check them up as they are very interesting in these shows. honestly siblings in most media is pretty awful. It almost always gives the impression that the writer has never had a sibling because of how bad the siblings are written in general. Especially sibling rivalries. One that comes to mind who are twins is Dante and vergil from the game Devil May Cry, fantastic relationship. They do fall into that 'the angry one' and 'the silly one' trope if you don't look close enough but over all they are very well written and have a realistic sibling dynamic considering they were apart for practically their entire life and then meet again in their early twenties-late teens they don't have that much of an issue fighting each other because they don't know each other I as a younger sibling just hate how in every work of media with siblings in general the siblings are categorized as creatures with either the same personality or falling into tropes. My older brother and I have a lot in common so I always think its dumb when siblings act completely different with so similar mannerisms or anything especially if they grow up together

I haven't watched more than the first episode, but my parents used to watch This Is Us a lot, and that features a family with triplets throughout the years. One of the original three babies died the same day it was born, and there was an abandoned baby in the hospital, so the parents adopted that baby and raised him alongside their biological kids as part of the set of triplets (though it's obvious he's adopted since the family is white and he's Black). I think the show ran into some controversy in later seasons, but if you like adult drama shows, it might be worth checking out

One of my favorite kids shows as a young kid was called ”The Triplets” (Original catalan title ”Les Tres Bessones”). I always thought it was very underrated. But despite triplets being main characters, I barely remembered their names and just referred to them as ”the blue one, the green one and the pink one” (what is it with cartoon triplets and the color scheme being blue, green and red/pink?). They all wore the same gray overalls with different colored shirts underneath, and had the same hairstyle and hair color. I just remembered that the green one liked to eat.

I'm not a twin or triplet, but ever since I was a kid I couldn't describe the discomfort and annoyance I felt with the need for media to have identical siblings do everything together, including all talking at the same time, wearing the same thing, working together as one person, divided-up slivers of one person, or one of them is an evil version of the other. The bottom line is that multiple-birth siblings share a womb, and I don't think I see much media shows that, where it's individual people born on presumably the same day. I think Encanto is the one thing that made me ultimately realize that glaring problem with other triplet characters in media, they exemplified the whole "individuals born on the same day but that's it" dynamic as opposed to those "they look alike so they dress the same and talk at the same time and do everything together" gimmicks. I see those dehumanizing gimmicks play into how actual multiple-birth children are treated in real life. I'll see parents dressing their kids the same or giving them the same haircuts (seriously... WHY would parents ever need to do that? Is it cute to brag about?). Lastly, can I just say that "this one is the smart one, and that one is the *pretty* one" is such a quintessential example of people objectifying girls as well as setting up unhealthy comparisons between siblings??? Girls get an early start at being objectified if someone says one girl is pretty, that ends up insinuating something for the others that aren't called that, and that's when the insecurities begin. Siblings as it is are already faced with unhealthy comparisons to each other no matter their age gap or gender, but that torture must be dialed ALL the way up for multiple-birth siblings.
@itsvale63713 ай бұрын
i gotta say reading the comments sadly parents dressing their siblings the same way is a common thing, but ofc eventually twins grow up and get an own style but is realistic in a way for kids at least it is

this isn't all that relevant but the san francisco giants (baseball team) have two pitchers who are identical twins named taylor and tyler rogers. they're actually fairly easy to tell apart when you're watching the game because taylor is left-handed and tyler pitches so side-arm that it's kind of upside-down (i genuinely cannot stress enough how not normal the way he pitches is). tyler is a better pitcher than taylor but taylor decided to come play for the giants after tyler had already been here for a while so i guess he doesn't mind. also apparently when they were in high school and college taylor was the hotshot and tyler didn't surpass him until he started pitching upside-down. so there's an example of actual real humans who are identical twins who do the same job for the same sports team (and as a consequence of that, wear the same clothes) and guess what? they're still very much their own people! and that's obvious even to fans who don't know them personally at all!

Hi 👋 I have younger identical twin brothers (11 years old). I definitely think of them as similar since they’ve grown up together and played together both at school and at home but they do have their differences in personality. Ones more adventurous and loud while the other is quieter and enjoys quietly drawing especially when one is out at the shops with my mum (he’s still able to keep up with the other when he’s being loud). I don’t tend to see them like this unless I’m specifically talking about their personalities and art (I’m an artist myself) especially since it’s hard to reduce them down to one personality because they’re kinda one individual personality mixed with influences from the other. They do tend to share a lot of their stuff unless they want to be clear as to who owns what thing (especially if we bought two of that thing for each). Kinda surprisingly, despite being identical, they don’t really do the ‘swap clothes and pretend to be the other twin’ thing though they definitely have a bit of cheekiness in them (I’d say they tend to be more mischievous at school though they could be at home just to annoy me)

That’s so thoughtful, thank you for sharing 😊 sometimes for brevity we do end up reducing people to just one or two traits, definitely. It’s great you acknowledge that though 😁

Huey Dewey and Louie have spent most of their existence as, more or less, a single character with three heads. They all have the same voice and personality. However, they have been expanded upon, and each have their own personalities in Quack Pack and Ducktales 2017. They were more or less teenage stereotypes in Quack Pack (The cool one, the smart one, and the athletic one respectively), but really work as well rounded individuals in Ducktales 2017. I feel like any animation fan should watch Ducktales 2017, but I think triplets looking for good representation might find it especially enjoyable.

This video is so good! I found this really interesting, and I liked hearing the perspective of a triplet for this trope. As a sibling, but not a Triplet, then I usually don't really like the triplet tropes and how it's handled most of the time, especially for women. Though I think I should tell you about a lesser known trio, the Sonic Underground triplets, Sonic, Sonia, and Manic. Despite their terrible names, then they're actually pretty different from each other. Since the show was made in the 90s, of course they have some flaws of being put together all the time, and having their tropes. But due to the story of Underground, where they need to learn how to get along as siblings, and also needing to find their mother. Then I personally can forgive them being together most of the time. I do like how the show attempts to define them more than "main character", "girl", and "bad boy" in some episodes. For example, there's an entire episode about Sonia and Manic feeling inferior compared to Sonic, since he gets a lot of attention for his powers. Sometimes there's solo episodes about the individual sibling from time to time. For example, I believe Manic is the youngest of the three, because there's a lot of episodes about him feeling unloved/forgotten. That's a very younger sibling thing to think as someone who grew up as a middle child and younger sibling at one point. There's also episodes about him finding his identity, and trying to feel different from his siblings (mainly his brother Sonic). Which I think also is probably a struggle triplets face, but I wouldn't know for sure. There's also a few episodes dedicated to Sonia, which on the surface, are about her swooning over guys. But most of the time, it ends in her not getting with the guy, and learning more about herself, or how to stand up for herself. Which honestly, for a show in the 90's that was pretty progressive. Of course she's still feminine, she loves shopping and makeup and other girly things. But she's still a badass fighter, she's the leader of her resistance, and she doesn't let people take advantage of her. They aren't perfect of course, I mostly think Sonic is bad, and suffers from the "Radical cool main character" triplet trope. They never give episodes to just Sonic, and they usually try to paint him as "in the right" because he's a main character. He can also come off as kind of a jerk, especially because we never see anything about him in solo episodes, and what his struggles might be as the popular and powerful sibling. But that's like the one thing wrong I can think of, otherwise in my opinion I think they did well. I wonder what you think about this, I thought I'd mention them since I'm a huge Sonic nerd. I'm sad that something like the comics have never tried to write siblings characters ever again for some reason. I hope you found this comment interesting. ^^

Oh my goshhh Sonic Underground! I spent a lot of time on American cruise ships growing up as my parents worked on them, and I remember watching that show on the channels in the cabin! I remember being really confused because I thought Sonia and Amy were the same person, and I think because of that in my child brain I never focussed as much on the fact that they were triplets because I thought Sonia fancied Sonic, haha. I had totally forgot about sonic underground until I came to do this video, but I thought they might have been too niche to cover in this broad overview. This comment has made me realise I should defo include them in my next one 😄 and you’re bang on with your analysis there, it’s so relatable! Thanks for commenting ☺️

I understand your first hot take, while I am not a triplet, my mom had me and my siblings pretty quick so we were of similar age ranges. She told me that sometimes as a parent, you are going to have to focus all of your energy on one, which will automatically affect one's time with the others. The sibling who was sick, moving out, or in a crisis tended to be above the list of priorities over the kids who don't have the issues. Thinking back to my childhood, I don't really see much issues of this idea, although it could be a mix of us understanding it and us just getting lucky and not having a big crisis happening the same time as someone else. Although, if you are a parent and you realize one kid needs much more priority for a reason, please at least take time to explain the issue to the other kids and don't leave them in the dark. They won't have a full understanding of the situation, but it helps them better understand the situation at hand.
@aShadeBolder3 ай бұрын
my hot take is that this is just one more example of the thing where media demands a reason for characters to deviate from a perceived default. they're triplets because "hahaha, Shrek is overwhelmed by too many babies just like he feared, but look he's still happy. is't that wonderful character growth?" or that character is gay because it's a coming out story or whatever. yeah, it sucks. it feels alienating to the people who end up being the plot trope over and over, but also makes other people see trope-d out humans irl as more like that representation (it's probably part of the reason for the sexualisation you described, for example). I hadn't considered twins/triplets/higher multiples in this, but it absolutely makes sense.

I've babysat my youngest brother, and I've babysat my newborn niece. Immediately, they are VERY different people. My brother was very closed-off from his surroundings and patient about noise; self-focused, sedentary, and preoccupied with his physical comfort. My baby niece is the total opposite; 110% tuned in to her surroundings, immediately retracts if you are in a bad mood, is extremely social and cognizant of others' attention; while she fusses when physically uncomfortable, she's far more disturbed when she heard someone talking but can't see them. My brother would cry if someone walks in the house and comes to greet him; my niece would cry if you walk in and DON'T greet her. My brother acted fearful when things don't go his way. My niece gets ANGRY, it's unmistakable. So yeah. Right out the gate, they're already opposite personalities. I was expecting more of the same, but within the first week it was clear, she's a Type-A, high functioning, militant little shit. Love that kid.

I'm not a twin or a triplet and have never even lived with my siblings for reasons (age gaps) but I do have several OCs that are twins / triplets and this video unironically makes me feel better about them cause none of my triplet OCs look the same (as they were all based on the Powerpuff Girls to some extent) and my twin OCs absolutely hate each other. One triplet group has a great relationship all around, the other group has an average one, and the third group has one that has been falling apart for years and watching this video + reading the comments make me feel better about a lot of things; especially the sour relationships between several siblings.

You should try watching this old Korean reality tv call The Return of Superman, it is about celebrity dads taking care of their children. They had twins and triplets on the show and recently there was an interview with the dad and the triplets years later after the show. I only watched it for the Song triplets Daehan, Minguk, and Manse as I love how the siblings dynamics and what outing they were going to do that episode but also how the dad, Song Il-kook, parents as like many reality tv there are cuts to his thoughts and I love how he talks about the different personalities he sees in his sons and what trait his sons got from him and his wife. Fun fact, their names means Long Live Korean lol and during the years after interview I think the dad mention he had a back up name plans just in case his sons were bullied for that as to Koreans it sounds weird as names. Which shows how thoughtful the dad is. Oh and there are crossover episodes with the twins.

In the original show, the twins Phil and Lil were inseparable and liked the same things (ex: mud and worms). But in the pilot of the spin-off, Lil decides that she wants to be more of her own person. She starts to like more girlie things and even asks to have her own room and hangs out with other people rather than with her brother and their old friends. Meanwhile, Phil is trying to cope with all the changes and having to accept his sister has new interests and wants time away from him. Thought it was pretty interesting.

What do you think about The Triplets by Roser Capdevila? It is a series of books for kids which later turned into an animated TV series in the 90's. The three girls are actually based off of the creator's actual triplets. Also, I'm asking because I'm not sure if the series is popular outside of Catalonia and Spain and I want to know what people think of catalan media :]
@Sorrowsong02 ай бұрын
I think the reason Disney and so many other animation companies like triplets so much is because what they're really trying to pursue is a Three Musketeers trope, and being triplets is just a very convenient reason to put everybody together without much explanation in their backgrounds, because the intent is more about getting up to shenanigans or being comic relief. I think you have several good points in addition to this in that it would be good to see stories that are more explicitly about being a triplet and the interpersonal relationships that happen this way, instead of just being a novelty. In this setting there would not be a Three Muskteers trope necessarily, and it could develop or not depending on how the author wants to drive the story. In addition to that, the Three Musketeers trope is still quite fun on its own and it would be nice to see the trope acted out in a way that isn't so reliant on the group being siblings to start out with. I think creators have become so reliant on siblings that stereotypes have now developed around triples which you and others now have to suffer, and also it's become cliche for the trope as well. In other words it would be good to see stories that are actually about being a triplet without necessarily being automatically a Musketeer, and also it would be good to see stories about the Three Musketeer trope where the group isn't together just because they're siblings.

2:10 as the oldest of five, the final three being only two years apart: one, then later two twins, I can agree with this. It is a LOT of kids to have to take care of at once. Many of my earliest memories were just of me watching how tired my parents were and trying to help them starting at the age of 5-7. While it definitely had its bright side later on: we're all so close in age that it's easier for us to bond and become legitimate friends, I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone simply because it indeed was very hard and there were times growing up that I felt neglected because of it.

Thank you so much for your input! Yeah I defo think with really big families it ends up being inevitable that older kids will help to raise the younger kids which imo shouldn’t happen! As the oldest of six, it's such a complicated relationship I have to being from a big family for this reason. Like. Idk I definitely don't want six kids for the reasons you said, I'd feel super guilty like I couldn't pour love and time and attention and opportunity into every one of them as much as they deserved. But I love my siblings so so much and wouldn't trade a single one of them for the world, and I also think they made my childhood better even if we didn't get that much parental attention or care. So I'm torn like maybe I would feel bad not giving my kids those relationships and dynamics too. Right now we have two under two and it's A LOT. But again wouldn't change it for the world because they'll always have one another. Guess we'll see if more kids seem right for our family in the future but definitely not now.

They all look different, act different, and while yes, they do things together, they have different friends and do different things and have different interests.
