Beautiful setup. I’m in the process of doing a 75 myself that will eventually house a pair of Shubunkin and a Sarasa, and was planning on something very similar. This video certainly confirms it! Would you recommend water sprites over duckweed?
@THolzAquariums10 ай бұрын
Unfortunately these fish got some kind of an illness that I wasn't able to cure. I no longer have them. Duckweed will be quickly eaten by goldfish. Water sprite would be better. The goldfish won't eat it.

Do you still run the SunSun 304B canister (currently)? How long have you had it and do you run any additional filters? I have two goldfish in a 75 gallon tank. I have one fully grown comet goldfish that I rescued almost two years ago. When I got him into a tank that had good quality water, he started to turn black. I didn’t know anything about fish at the time and thought I was doing something wrong. Turns out I was actually doing everything right, and the reason for his scales turning black is because they were starting to heal from the severe ammonia burns he had from the tank he was previously in. It’s insane the amount that all of his fins and especially his tail have grown. When I got him he barely even had a tail fin, now it’s almost as long as his body! 1 year later and I went and bought a medium sized Shubunkin from my local fish store, he has gotten bigger since I got him, so my guess is that he will continue to grow more until he’s the size of my Comet. I just always worry so much that they don’t have enough space or my filter is inadequate. Maybe I should add some live plants but anytime I’ve tried to do that it seems like they just die in the tank or get eaten. I run the same canister filter (304B) and I also have two decent sized sponge filters in each corner of the tank, then I have a medium sized “dual sponge filter” that I just keep in the tank because it’s always been there and has some bio media in it as well. How often do you clean out your canister filter? I’m thinking about upgrading and getting a bigger canister filter but they are just so expensive. My water parameters are not bad ever but it’s because I do a lot of water changes. My water bill is crazy some months.
@THolzAquariums2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately these fish died not too long after I made the video. They got a sickness that I was not able to cure. I was doing two water changes a week to keep the water clean maybe that was the problem. I do still use the Sun Sun. I have had it running for many years. It does make a little noise but not too loud. As far as I can tell it works just as well as the more expensive name brands for a much better price. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@GreenEyedJade2 жыл бұрын
@@THolzAquariums aw I’m sorry! My two goldfish have been sick too many times for me to count but somehow I’ve always saved them. What filter media do you use in your SunSun if you don’t mind me asking? Your water looks much more clear than mine does. I have a 303B (which is like 370 gph) on a 75 gallon though…. I really like it but I feel like I need to get a bigger one or find a way to keep some plants alive in my tank.
@THolzAquariums2 жыл бұрын
@@GreenEyedJade Right now I have the same tank with just some floating water sprite and about thirty gold white clouds and a similar number of blue wag platy fry that were born in that tank over the summer.. I only have one adult male left from the three of each I had. I think I should have separated them after they had some of the fry to allow them to rest and then put them back together . I use the media that came with the filter which is bio balls and nodules. I added some scrubbies in one of the baskets and I use the extra loft batting from Walmart . I see plenty of people keep goldfish in a 75 on you tube. Don't know why I couldn't
@zezekingyo23744 жыл бұрын
I see the black and white comet is a Shubunkin. Even that "sarasa" is also a shubunkin. Shubunkins have nacreous (in-between metallic and non metallic) or matted scales(translucent scales). Your shubunkins have scales which are somewhat nacreous
@THolzAquariums4 жыл бұрын

@@THolzAquariums No problem. I'm here to give good info:). I forgot another thing, most shubunkins are mainly calico in color, so they can be black white and red with some blueish coloration at the top half of its body.

Thanks Steve! Yes while they adapt to different water well they are somewhat sensitive when the water quality goes bad. And yes they should be in a 1000 gallon pond to reach their full potential. I have three Sarasa Comets the ones with the nice tails and one plain comet.

Even though they don't have porcelain to jump ship. Hi there now you have learn that any fish would jump out of something. If not covered. I have a school of silver Hatchet fish. When My mother got close to the aquarium of the fish scary her. Lep out of the tank. So I got the fish back in just in time ⌚ so now I have a led over the tank so I avoid this problem.
