I am so glad I found your channel. I love animals but my husband is very against anything that makes a mess in the house. So we have talked about getting some fish for a few moths. One day out of the blue my husbands grandmother bought my kids some fish. She gave us 4 small common goldfish, 3 danio glofish, and 1 pleco. They were all in a 2 gallon tank. (I know....I know.....just awful) Well unfortunately like many people who buy fish for their kids we had absolutely no clue on how to properly care for them. Within 3 days the water had become incredibly cloudy and we lost the pleco and 1 goldfish. The remaining goldfish had lost all of their color and became very lethargic. At this point I immediately started googling and felt so guilty after learning so much. That evening I went to the store and got a 10 gallon tank and everything I needed to switch them over immediately. It made me so happy to put them in the clean water. The danios were swimming like crazy for over an hr. After almost a month in the new tank we only lost 1 danio and have completed the nitrogen cycle. The goldfish have gotten their energy back and seem much happier. The kids are already over them so I say they are my fish now as I have put so much work and energy into them. I have enjoyed them so much that I actually want a much bigger tank. I have some questions I would like to ask you about it and the kind of fish I want. If you have the time and are willing, do you perhaps have an email that we could communicate through?

From what I have been reading on the internet, some people are saying that goldfish tanks require the filtration to be 10 times the volume of the tank. Tank was cycled, I do weekly water changes of 1/3-1/2 the volume, monitor water specs and keep the water 72 degrees. I do plan on moving things around as I acquire new/larger tanks. Is it okay to keep the current/ similar situations as long as I upgrade as they get larger to accommodate sizes?

We have a water dispenser an refill water jugs from our local grocery store which is also water from a well. It too is filtered but has been test and safe to drink. I could use this water for the fish if you feel it would be best. I do have a filter that hangs on the back of the aquarium so l hope this will be fine. I amy happy to know I do not need a heater as l had not yet purchased one. I have an inexpensive water vacuum to help me change water. Thank you greatly for your time! I appreciate! P.s. l suppose the water we purchase could very well have chlorine in it because there is a water filtration system in the town even though it is a small town. However it taste very different from the water the surrounding restaurants provide....l apologize as this is starting to sound complicated...😑

That can happen. If the water settles down after a day or so I don't worry about it.

Can anyone please answer this question regarding ph. I'm new to fish keeping and don't yet fully understand How ph affects fish. I've had some fancy goldfish in a 240 litre for 8 months now and the ph is 7.2. My watwater changes have been 60 litre weekly. I've never left it longer than a week because I was scared of affecting ph. But life has got in the way and water changes have been neglected for a month. My tap water ph is constantly 7.2 but my tank ph has dropped to 6.6. So my question is this. If my ph shifts suddenly from 6.6 to 7.0 would that be harmful to my fish.

It can be if it keeps happening. Smaller, more frequent water changes can help.

@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank.you for taking the time to reply. Sorry to be a pest. Could you also tell me. What snail's are best for keeping with goldfish. My gh is 200pp temperature stays at 72f. tds usually 80 to 100ppm and ph 7.0. And my fish are 3 inches. And if snail's is a bad idea. What other algae eaters would you recommend 🤔🥰

Would a 10 gallon be okay for a common goldfish as a start tank with weekly 25% or so water changes? There a 50 ish gallon tank that has something wrong with its water so it’s gonna be redone and fixed but is the 10 okay to keep in until then?

For a temporary holding tank it will work fine.

What type of goldfish are those?
@PrimeTimeAquatics2 жыл бұрын
Those were regular Petsmart feeder goldfish. 😀 Comet goldfish is what they are typically called.
